WRUP: StarCraft 2 edition

I have to admit it: I'm just not into all of the StarCraft 2 hype. It's a bit awkward since practically everyone I know -- and a lot of the WoW.com staff -- seems to be excited about SC2 above all else. So I'm attempting to turn things around, at least for the duration of this post, with this week's WRUP. In addition to asking what everyone's playing this weekend, I've asked for everyone's thoughts on the ongoing Cataclysm beta test. Well, it might have taken their minds off SC2 for a minute, at least ...
Everyone's answers -- and your chance to add your own -- after the break.
- Alex Ziebart (@alexziebart): Copy/paste what Matticus said and stick it here. It's exactly the same.
- Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert): Working on some articles related to druids and achievements in the beta and enjoying some five-man runs on the live realms. Favorite part of the beta? Snickering at people who log out on flying mounts without having rolled a druid. SUCK ON THAT, PEOPLE. But no, seriously, flying in old world Azeroth is amazing. And everything else is too. This expansion is going to rock.
- Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): Writing writing writing writing maybe galleries too and also some writing. I think we'll be working on 25m-HM Sindragosa this weekend, now that Putricide is down. (See? I told you he'd die!) Thoughts on beta, now in haiku format:
Hyjal was so cool
And then I went to Vashjir
My horse? Amazing.
- Amy Schley (@wowlawbringer): This weekend? So much stuff I'd like to/have to do, not even sure what'll actually happen. WoW-wise, getting back into the swing of things with my resto shammy. Four more levels till heroic time! There will hopefully be some bar-exam's-over celebrating with friends. There will likely be working on a patent application for work since student loans don't pay themselves off. :( Finally, my in-laws are in town, as my husband's grandmother passed away Wednesday evening and the funeral's Tuesday morning. Why did I think taking the bar exam would reduce my stress?
- Brian Wood (@frostheimwhu): I'm recording the two podcasts: hunting party and call to auction. I'm then leaving for a cottage for a week in my shiny new car!
- C. Christian Moore (@thearenaguy): I'm playing more chess this weekend, boo for no desktop. Plan on hitting up the beta in mid-August.
- Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): I'm torn between finishing the StarCraft 2 single player mission or getting another huge chunk of Kalimor Loremaster done, but honestly, I'll probably mostly be on the beta servers getting a feel for the new death knight rotations and death knight leveling. Beta thoughts: It's fun. I'm looking forward to the full game. I just wish the rune system wasn't so bugged out right now so I could do some real testing.
- Eli Khoury (@Jagoex): I'm recovering from the illness and plotting my revenge.
- Elizabeth Harper (@faience): Working on some beta galleries. Love, love, love the new Stratholme!
- Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives): Still waiting for my beta access to go through, so I'll be playing Dragon Quest IX and trying to figure out how this whole "StarCraft 2" thing works.
- Gregg Reece: I'm going to be running dungeons on the beta as prot to get a better feel of what they're doing with holy power right now. A patch just came down which looks like they smoothed a couple of the rough edges, but we'll have to see. Also, I've got StarCraft 2 installed, but haven't had time to play it yet... this is a crime that must be stopped. Beta impressions thus far: Don't log out while flying, because you'll log back in and plummet to your demise.
- Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): It's a long weekend here in the wacky land of British Columbia, so I'mma spend the whole thing doing galleries, art/comic stuff, seeing friends, visiting parents, and going to a parade and a festival! *_* Beta? OM NOM NOM MOAR GIMME MOAR.
- Lisa Poisso (@emused): Why, oh why, does my reading pile have to be as compelling as three betas, my CMA girlie and a nice, cool swimming pool? Beta thoughts: fun but so, so fast -- slow down, I want to enjoy!
- Matt Low (@matticus): StarCraft 2, StarCraft 2, StarCraft 2, StarCraft 2, StarCraft 2, StarCraft 2.
- Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): This weekend begins with a big get-together, followed by some WoW alt stuff, yadda yadda. I hope I'll get to get some beta in this weekend. I really want to check out Deepholm. My favorite part of beta so far is anything goblins. They are seriously amazing.
- Matthew Rossi (@matthewwrossi): We're down to heroic Halion and LK. Working on that.
- Rich Maloy (@stoneybaby): The usual for me: qt with girlfriend, edits for the show, and working on heroic Halion this weekend in raid. 25 people alive at the start of phase 3: GO! As for the beta, hopefully I'll have time to play this weekend.
- Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): This weekend is The Move! So I will be too busy or won't have internet and/or computer for most of the weekend. iPhone games and knitting FTW! My thoughts on the beta: I love goblins more than I thought I would.

I got into Beta on Tuesday, whoop!
So I've currently given feedback on a Gnome Priest, a Human Paladin & a Worgon Warrior (as of last build).
In other news, I got Just Cause 2 on Steam this weekend (it's 50% on all Just Cause 2 products Game, DLC, Prima Guide, etc) - It's a really great game but I can't play it for periods longer than a couple of hours as it gives me motion sickness... er.. whoop..!?
Also, the new Family Guy Star Wars spoon has been named "Family Guy: It's a Trap!" and will be released December 21st, whoop!
Jamie Jul 31st 2010 12:07PM
lol, spoon... (The Tick reference, Whoop!) I meant spoof... whoop!

And as an added detail Bullet For My Valentine have just recorded a live cover of Metallica's "Enter The Sandman" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge (@1hr 40mins into the stream, available until next saturday - also available to non-UK viewers)

Whoop! All in all a great weekend.

Okay so misinformed... it was Pendulum - "Watercolour" an amazing song in it's own right though not Metallica, sorry. :/

Lol you guys are so mean to guy who is telling you all the things he's excited about this weekend. So unnecessarily negative. I could probably leave it like this, and the guy would start getting uprated. But I'm hungover, and this site has a lot of closet negative dickheads. I say to all(and I'll consider a downrate a success here) you assholes, Go fuck yourselves.

You have to crack a few eggs to break a few eggs, Dave... but tbh 99% of what I say is generally gold dust as my post history does prove, the other 1% is generally greyed out...

No WoW for me this weekend. No video games period. It's my weekend with my son and a long one at that! :-D
Oldbear Jul 31st 2010 12:48PM
Much the same here. I'm done wotk in 2 hours and then we head out in the RV for the rest of the long weekend. No cell phones, no laptops, just my wife and daughter and dog... Then back to flipping the coin for WoW or SC2!!!

I love Starcraft, but I'm not paying $10 extra for Starcraft 2 just because Bobby Kotick wants to exploit it's popularity as much as he can.
chris Jul 31st 2010 12:17PM
your loss.
David Jul 31st 2010 12:19PM
I remember Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition costing 75 dollars on the Genesis back in the 90s, and I played it enough to get more than my 75 dollars worth. I am sure you would do the same with Starcraft if you love it. The great thing about capitalism is if they are overcharging you, the price will go down if the market agrees.
Debesun Jul 31st 2010 2:24PM
I looked at Gamestop and Walmart in the US to see that it costs around ~$59 USD to get the standard edition. In Australia, we're paying $87.45 ($79 USD) to $95 AUD ($85 USD) from equivalent stores to those in the US for the standard edition.
Those prices for a new release game (especially for one as popular as Starcraft) is pretty damn cheap for us as even game titles with relatively minor hype will cost around $100-$110 AUD RRP on release easy.
If anything, I envy you guys.
And I still feel that game was worth every cent.
Drakkenfyre Jul 31st 2010 7:54PM
Did you buy WarCraft 3? You know, that was $60, too. And that was long before Kotick.
Orion Jul 31st 2010 10:07PM
Hey guys, what's the evil corporation of the month for August? July was Activision.
Drakkenfyre Jul 31st 2010 11:46PM
David, I remember Virtua Racing on the Sega Genesis costing $100. And that was for a standard cartridge, Nothing special, no limited edition, no weird import tax, no import fees, straight-up $100 in the US because it required larger ROM chips than what was standard at the time.
And don't even mention the NeoGeo. System was $400, games were $100-$400 due to their large size.

Had to re-format my desktops hard drive, so reinstalling and reupdating WoW, and whilst I'm waiting for that to finish I'll be playing SC2/WoW on my lap top :D
Lageno Jul 31st 2010 12:38PM
Finishing off Brood War to get up to date on the story, so I can then allow myself to play SC2. Also finishing Ace Combat 6.
neutronbomb98 Jul 31st 2010 12:49PM
Wait... is that screenshot gameplay of SC2? I wasn't into the hype, but if that screeny IS in fact gameplay....
As for this weekend, i'm actually grinding out PvP gear for my newly leveled Elemental Shaman. It's AV weekend, so on Cyclone EU, it's about 50/50 W/L ratio.
Jeff Jul 31st 2010 1:22PM
Yes. It's gameplay.
Oldbear Jul 31st 2010 12:56PM
That should read "done "work" in 2 hours...
