The Queue: Wrath of Wrath of the Lich King

Lately we've been going back and doing all the achievements we hadn't gotten around to. Got some folks their Icebound Frostbroods and their Ironbound Protos. Above is me wearing gear Ulduar was never designed for to trivialize Orbit-uary. I don't make the rules, I merely take advantage of them.
jonathan.hatten asked:
I asked yesterday, but I'll ask again today since I'd like to see an answer. Since we don't have to buy flying in Cataclysm, what are the big gold sinks in the expansion? Just mounts? More equipment like the Dalaran rings? Also, how useful is the current sea turtle in the expansion's underwater zones? I have it and got it for the express purpose of the expansion, and I'd hate to see it go unused.
The short answer is, we really don't know yet. There are certain to be gold sinks, of course, but it's still early in the beta and they're working more on quests and zones and class balance right now. And as many people pointed out, no, the sea turtle mount won't really be terribly useful. Cool, though.
Andrew asks:
What is going to happen to the players who learned spells like slow fall pre-Cataclysm? Will the spells be removed and they will learn it at the new level in Cataclysm or will they be grandfathered in and allowed to keep the spells?
You indeed lose the spell until it's available at your new level. There is no grandfathering, only Zuul.
chyllyphylly asks:
I have a question thats been bugging me a while. I've started to roll an undead and there are plenty of quests to kill Dalaran mobs. But the Horde are allowed in Dalaran. Did something happen that made the Kirin Tor forgive them? Sorry, never got a Horde toon past level 50.
No need to be sorry. In this case, the real answer is lore had to bend for the sake of gameplay. They needed a neutral city for Wrath, Dalaran fit the bill, so a blood elf faction was created, named the Sunreavers after a blood elf mage named Aethas Sunreaver who appeared for the first time in Wrath as a member of the rebuilt Kirin Tor. This faction gave an in-game lore excuse for why the Kirin Tor would allow the Horde (who in the past, sacked their city) and especially the undead (who have been killing them in Silverpine for a chance at a cat drop) into their magnificent, floating magical city.
Lore-wise, it's pretty fair to say that when your magical floating city comes under attack from dragons loyal to the actual Aspect of Freaking Magic, you might want to take your allies where you can get them.
Kalans asks:
I'm not sure if this has ever been asked or [if] I am looking in the wrong place, but here it goes: Are all undead dragons from the Blue Dragonflight or are they mixed up between all the dragonflights? I know most of the major dragons like Syndragosa are blues but am not sure if Arthes only liked blue dragons or if he just didn't care what color they were before they died.
If you do the Obsidian Dragonshrine quests in the Dragonblight, you can actually see the corpses of black dragons raised from the dead by Scourge necromancers as Magma Wyrms with a model similar to Nightbane. (Nightbane was in life a blue dragon.) The reason so many of Arthas' undead dragons are former blues is because there are so many dead blue dragons in Northrend, because of what Deathwing did during the War of Ancients.
Deathwing used the Demon Soul to kill almost all of the blues, including Malygos' consort Sindragosa. Their corpses crashed into what is now Icecrown Glacier, where they lay buried in the ice until Arthas raised Sindragosa and appointed her head of his Frostbrood. When Arthas was still a death knight, he defeated and killed an ancient blue dragon named Sapphiron, which may be the reason he raised Sindragosa (basically, he was repeating himself, only going bigger) and other blues. So while the Scourge in general uses whatever dragons they can get their hands on (they were even going to raise Galakrond, an enormous pre-dragon bigger than all the aspects combined), Arthas seems nostalgic and picks blue dragons whenever possible.
Jack Spicer asks:
I'm not certain I want to test this myself, so I'll ask. What happens if when you are done with a random dungeon, you roll on the loot but then teleport out of the dungeon before the loot is rolled for? Does it just remain on the corpse, flagged that you "won" the roll, or does it magically send those frost orbs to you across the continent?
It remains on the corpse. I've done quite a few instances where people dropped group before rolls were completed, and the loot not only stayed on the corpse, no one else could pick it up.

22 slot uncommon and 24 slot rare quality from tailoring

What part of "we really don't know yet" (quoting Mr. Rossi and many bloggers before him in regard to gold sinks) do people fail to understand?
Unless I'm falling into a troll's bait line, quit with this really annoying question and save up your "monies" for when you do get to play Cataclysm, there will be gold sinks such as those bags.
Dril Aug 5th 2010 11:36AM
Reading is a gift, dear Mahkah. BAGS does not look like GOLDSINKS.
Ashimar Aug 5th 2010 12:00PM
@Mahkah
I think he was just asking a question about bag sizes... not money sinks. And from the other reply it looks like we do know.
vazhkatsi Aug 5th 2010 12:24PM
well she now sells 24 slot portable holes, which a lot of people still don't know about
Mahkah Aug 5th 2010 1:16PM
I'm sorry if it came as impolite (mostly due to the fact that determining one's writing in the "net" is hard) but i did answer it in regard to the first part of the question, where he/she speaks of Haris Pilton's bags, that indeed ARE money sinks.
If you do read what I wrote, I didn't mention anything in regard of bag size and, as so, I didn't respond to his/hers 2nd question.
Apparently reading truely is a gift...

I'd hardly consider her bags to be major gold sinks when there are Traveler's Tundra Mounts, Kirin Tor Rings and Choppers running around. In any case, the usage of the word "or" indicated that bag SIZE was the main point of both questions...not bag COST.
And I like how you defend your impolite post by claiming that it was simply a victim of being misread on the internet. Is it even possible to say "What part of [insert phrase here] don't you understand?" in a polite way (in writing or otherwise)?
I'm gonna test that on my boss today. When she asks me to do something, I'll say, "What part of 'on break' don't you understand?" I'll say it politely, of course. I'm sure she'll totally understand.

*Individually*, I wouldn't consider Pilton's bags a gold sink, but if one wanted to outfit their toon with 4 Portable Holes +7 more in their bank slots, it adds up to 33k gold. I think it's fair to call *that* a gold sink, especially when it's ~12.5k for the chopper, 10k for the mammoth and ~10k for the top end Kirin Tor ring(at exalted).
(cutaia) Aug 5th 2010 11:01PM
Sehv,
That's actually a pretty good point. So, everything I said minus that part. :D

@mahkah:
The comments section of The Queue is where any questions you hope to be answered during the next Queue or by readers are posted. I believe it was you who connected Haris Pilton's merchandise with goldsinks, not the commenter. In this case, you looked to be the stupid (and annoying) one. Is your brain really so small it overloads upon the asking of a simple question?
Jackass.

As a side note, if you send a ticket regarding the item, the GMs can award it to the proper person.
SamLowry Aug 5th 2010 12:10PM
On a related note, if you're ported into an instance and notified that it resets in less than a half-hour, I'd recommend leaving. We had ToC reset in the middle of a boss fight, and though I won the roll I never received it because it evaporated during the reset. I had to send a note to a GM and nearly a week later it showed up in the mail, which was a bit late since I had already progressed past it.

Is it true that you can learn Dual Talent Specialization earlier at Cataclysm than on live? At what level?
Eternauta Aug 5th 2010 11:12AM
Btw I forgot: does it still cost 1000g?
Thundrcrackr Aug 5th 2010 11:53AM
I reeeaaallly hope so.
If you ask me, dual talent spec should be available as soon as toons are able to run dungeons, because that is the whole point of having dual spec, so you can switch to tank or heals for dungeons then go back to DPS for levelling.
Part of Blizz's excuse for it not being available at lower levels though has been that they don't want to confuse new players with too much information early on, so they may still keep the high price tag on dual specs to ensure it is only used by alts.
However, in Cata, with the way Blizz is making players "choose" a spec early on, i think that alone will help new players understand the difference between various specs, so i'd really like to see them lower the price tag too and make dual spec available to everyone as soon as dungeons are available. The sooner players are able to experiment with tanking and healing then the more experienced tanks and healers we'll have at end game which will help reduce queue times for everyone.
Drakkenfyre Aug 5th 2010 11:55AM
They said it would be lowered both in price and level.
kooda Aug 5th 2010 12:12PM
Oh thank god its getting lowered, already paid for it on my priest and am regretting it, i dont like healing and i think the money wouldve been better spent on my DK come cata im buying it first thing.
johnthediver Aug 5th 2010 12:14PM
Most any low level dungeon can be healed/tanked by an off spec roll as long as they are in appropriate gear. Any warrior spec can tank up to 65ish BC dungeons as long as they strap on a shield, feral cats can tank with just a few gear swaps and bear form, rets can tank with a shield. Any caster class can heal (asuming they have healing spells available, sorry locs and mages) if they swap in some mp5 (or i guess spirit in cata) gear and make sure they stack SP.
I really believe dual specs are not needed until close to end game when you want to maximize your role, be it dps, heals or tanking.

"Any warrior spec can tank up to 65ish BC dungeons as long as they strap on a shield, feral cats can tank with just a few gear swaps and bear form, rets can tank with a shield."
As someone who's recently been leveling a healer through the dungeon finder and has learned the difference between healing a tank and a DPS pretending to be a tank, I'd like to whole-heartedly tell you, as politely as possible, to go **** yourself.
