Getting rid of the Battle for the Undercity? NOOOOO.
8-06-2010 @ 1:47PM
The conclusion of this questline is probably one of the most unique and exciting events in the game. Removing old-world quests that were boring, inconclusive, required obscure ingredients, or were broken makes sense. Removing an amazing questline and satisfying conclusion does not.Boo Blizzard, indeed.

WE DEMAND VENGEANCE!!!!*continues to foam at the mouth as any normal Paladin should be*

Actually, the video is still there at the end of the chain. It is played for you by the dragon Alexstraza, like always. However, the Battle For Undercity portion of the quest chain has been removed because you participating in the event itself after it has already happened makes little sense.

To be honest... I kinda want this..Last time I did BftUC, I came in late on my Hunter; the Event had already began and Wyrm was in the tunnel fighting A-bomb. To my surprise NO Player Chars were near, so I did as any good nightelf would do, and assisted the Human king in Combat. We went through the tunnels and found our way out of the Sewer. Then I realized Jania Proudmore was absent. I opened a ticket to blizz, and sat and waited.. after 20min she spawned and they continued, I closed my ticket. We then charged into the Apothecary, however once more Jania was missing, so It was myself and Wyrn on this mod... Luckily, Wyrn couldnt die otherwise I would have killed someone. But I was missing out on Jania's AoE and had to deal with the slims alone. Wyrns Buff could not heal me enough to stay alive... so I died, and due to the "1 mob on a raid boss" fight, it took him about 15min to down this boss. I kept reentering, rezzing, and getting killed. Died about 4 times before it was over.So get this, this is where it gets interesting...You know the Horde vs. Alliance fight in the Throne Room? I find a level 77 (Alliance) Boomkin sitting there with the Orcs, the Chicken actually waiting. Apparently, he glitched the entire encounter by NOT staying with the group, forcing me to go through a living hell of a battle...Too Long, didn't read: Quest was bugged by someone else, I paid about 35g in repairs, and I had roasted Chicken for dinner.Sometimes.I hate people.

I’m worried blizzard is starting to slip on the sense of continuity in its game. My understanding was that the content in Wrath takes place after the content in Vanilla and TBC and before the content in Cat. Traditionally, as you leveled, you moved through the story. Things started to get muddled with the introduction of death knights that had to level through outlands. It was insinuated that the starting zone took place sometime after vanilla and possibly after TBC, but you’re still sent to level in Outlands and fight Illidan without any explanation whatsoever. It was an 8-10 level break in the continuity that many players were willing to plow through, but it still marked a point where the normal flow of the story no longer made sense.Thing’s look like they could become even worse in Cat, given how technically the lower level content will take place before the events in TBC and wrath. We’re going to have twenty levels in the middle of the story that exist in a time period outside of the normal flow of events. That’s incredibly messy, and while ignorable by veterans will only confuse new players. So, how is blizzard going to fix this? I’m worried they’ll take the approach where references to outside events will simply be stripped out of TBC and Wrath and players will be expected to rush through these zones on their way to 85. I’m really happy to see the vanilla content get an update, but they need to overhaul the connection between all their different expansions or else they risk a storytelling experience with huge continuity issues.

This is probably THE questline that I wanted to do with my Paladin alt I'm currently playing, except that I'm doing TBC content with him now since I refuse to rush past content and into 80 fast just because some so-and-so pressures me into it. Lo and behold, the developers give a big "fuck you" to people who don't like powerleveling and rushing headfirst into "teh endgame". Jeesh, freaking arseholes!BOO, YOU SUCK, BLIZZARD!!!

This would be a terrible mistake. I hope it isn't so. TBfUC is one of the coolest quests in the game, and I know I'm not alone when I say that. I've got 8 80's (so I've run it 8 times) and I still love it. I would be really disappointed if this happens.

@jishdefish,Continuity is not a good reason to get rid of a quest while so many other quests continue to exist. Are they going to remove the entire Outland zones and quests? However, I might agree with folks that think it will be removed because the layout of Undercity will change. It would be unfortunate, but I can understand them not having the time to reprogram the phased event for the new layout.

@snowleopard233You do not understand the timeline at all, do you? It's Classic WoW > BC > WotLK > Cataclysm. In that order, yes some things have been retconned, a lot of things have really; but that is the timeline. Anyways, last time Blizz said that Cataclysm takes place during WotLK, when he's still alive. I'm guessing they changed their mind though. The rest of the stuff, like BT still having Illidan and Kael'Thas still being in The Eye, is due to the whole fact that, game mechanics > Lore. They're not going to go and remove a raid just because they added a new expansion. Sure you could argue and say that they removed Naxx, but they didn't. Since they added a new reason, apparently KT survived and he fled to Dragonblight and took Naxx with him, so they didn't remove it, they just upgraded Naxx essentially. As for the whole "But Ony is a levle 80 raid now!" Well that was just done for no real reason, simply because they wanted to and as an 'anniversary' present (I guess you could say) for those with some nostalgia for BC. It serves no actual purpose (aside from phat lewtz) but it didn't actually screw up the story either since you can still turn in Ony's head.

@Mike. The timeline you put forth in your response is exactly the same as the one that snowleopard233 stated in his/her comment. I'd say snowleopard233 understands the timeline about as well as you do.

@Mike: Ony was a vanilla raid, not BC. I'm sure that's what you meant, anyhow.

The Battle for the Undercity was perhaps the most horrible, anti-climactic event I've ever seen in WoW. God it sucked. Hearing Jaina's "aggro voice" every three seconds, steamrolling wave after wafe after too many waves of uninspiring trash that didn't pose a threat to you anyway... and the whole thing just completely lacked atmosphere. Good idea, horrible implementation. The Wrathgate cinematic was so neat, and then they had to continue with.. this. Bleh. Good riddance.
