As alluded to in other sound files data-mined from the Cataclysm beta, traitors from the Horde and the Alliance are defecting from their respective factions to the new Twilight's Hammer cult. Previously, the identities of these traitors have remained unknown, but new sound files indicate we just might know now who is turning away from their own. Spoilers and sound clips after the jump.
WARNING: This post contains spoilers about the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm. Do not read further if you do not wish to be spoiled on major plot points.
Cho'gall's sound files, in Dire Maul, indicate that there are two traitors, an Alliance and a Horde figure, who are working from within to give the Twilight's Hammer Cult a leg-up in recruiting. We can now surmise that those traitors are Archbishop Benedictus, now known as The Black Bishop, for the Alliance and Grand Magister Rommath for the Horde. Sound clips follow:
I never did trust that Benedictus, always sending toons to RFD even though it's crazy far away and horde territory. He was just sending us out to die so there would be less people in his way on his rise to power.
Jarl is likely a reference to the Scandinavian word, which is where the title 'Earl' came from, a title of peerage regarded as roughly equivalent/subordinate to a Count. A Jarl was a trusted, loyal and well-known peer to a Scandinavian/Nordic lord who had risen above the rank of Huscarl (house man - roughly equivalent to a member of a lord's court) to be entrusted with running a town or hamlet as a chieftain in the lord's stead. Becoming a Jarl was mark of high distinction, since a Jarl was likely a young, popular, honored and respected warrior who could conceivably overthrow the aging local lord whose time of glory was past. Entrusting such a warrior with ruling in the lord's stead was dangerous as it put them a half-step away from declaring themselves lord of the land as they were also charged with raising and keeping a hird (armed band) for defense of the town. Less trusted warriors would receive individual tokens of reward or would be taken in as Huscarls.
Rommath sounds like Professor Xavier from the old (90's) X-men cartoon. I'd almost wonder if it *was* him, except his voice would have to have changed a bit since then, it's been nearly 20 years.
Frank Welker isn't even fair, that's cheating. The guy has voiced every animal in every cartoon in the past 40 years. Even if his voice changed, he'd simply use one of his billion other voices to go back to Fred.
Casey Kasem doesn't voice Shaggy anymore. The most recent few animated Scooby-Doo movies have had Shaggy voiced by Matthew Lillard, his actor from the 2 big live-action movies. Plus I know someone else voiced him for a few movies in the 90's too.
Casey Kasem stopped doing Shaggy years ago, He refused to voice the character ever again, I think he was embarressed he did it.
And Frank Welker did the voice of Fred? I didn't know that.
They refused him from doing Megatron in the Transformers movie saying his voice "had aged too much", yet they were fine with him doing the voice for the game.
I think they wanted what's his name more than Frank Welker, which is a shame, because he IS Megatron.

The opportunity to kill a Gnome Mage is always a welcome one.

But the opportunity to kill a Gnome Warlock is always a welcomed with a world public holiday with hotdogs and ice cream for all.

Noooo! My RP character Amy Manastorm (an old lady gnome looking for her husband, the one who always called her "Sweet Cheeks") will be crushed!

Actually, things there are not what they seem.

Not to mention Rommath is done by the Uther/Lich King/Original Kel'Thuzad guy...

Awwwww, Benedictus was always so nice when you clicked on him. Sad face :[

Pleasant voice too. Apparently innitiation into the Twilight Hammer primarily involves eating gravel.
Bilirubin Aug 9th 2010 3:13PM
Wait, what?
The guy named Benedictus is a traitor?
My surprised face :|

And what kind of a name is Jarl?

Would it? Fred Jones from Scooby Doo hasn't had his voice change since 1969. (Frank Welker is awesome.)
zdave Aug 9th 2010 4:02PM
Neither has Shaggy. Casey Kasem is the man (when he not cussing out his producers).

You only need fear the Black Bishop if you're standing diagonally to him.
Avan Aug 9th 2010 3:28PM
That would make for an interesting fight mechanic! Assuming we don't end up killing him in an anti-climatic fashion during a quest, anyways.
