15 Minutes of Fame: Interview feature LFM

It takes all kinds to make 15 Minutes of Fame. It's not just about being famous ... it's not about being well known in the gaming community ... it's not about being a super-achiever in real life or even being a super-achiever in game ... What makes it interesting to talk to people about how they play the World of Warcraft is that there are just so darn many ways that people dig into this game!
Lately, our email has been bursting at the seams with tips on various and sundry celebrities who've been rumored to play WoW, but we seem to be missing recommendations for other types of players. Do you know someone who fits any of these profiles?
- An artist, blogger, designer, modder or other WoW hobbyist whose WoW-centric projects have helped catapult him into his chosen profession.
- The A-team raider who's 60+ years old and still doing hard modes with the best of them.
- The guild "mom" – you know, the gal (or guy) who keeps everyone's morale high and keeps things behind the scenes humming along.
- The overachiever (whether student or professional) whose life is simply bursting at the seams but who's knocking out all the hard-mode achievements on a limited schedule, anyway.
- A battle-hardened, mentor-worthy arena veteran.
More player specs we're seeking more of, after the break.
- A counselor or mental health professional who uses WoW and/or gaming as an explorative or therapeutic tool.
- The most hardcore, awesome, proficient player you know who manages to do incredible things with his character.
- The guild leader who's kept the group together since beta. (Please be specific if you're nominating a guild leader; we receive many recommendations for GMs, and all too often, they sound "nice" but not absolutely outstanding. What's unique about your nominee?)
- A disabled player who's enjoyed considerable success using adaptive equipment or software to cope with his or her condition.
- A brand new player who's never played an MMO before, doesn't know anyone in person who does and is still leveling up. (That's right, please nominate yourself – we'd love to hear a fresh viewpoint!)
- That guy behind the WoW blog or theorycrafting site or mod or cartoon or machinima or service who's your absolute favorite.
- A young person in a guild of all students from the same school, college or university.
We'll be reading your suggestions in the comments, of course, but I would especially appreciate emails with more meaty details. Please include concrete details about your nominee that lets me know why this player is simply exceptional; contact info is a plus. You can reach me at lisa@wow.com. I'm looking forward to sharing all these intriguing personalities with all our readers!

Nah, your 15 minutes are up.

I'd like to nominate Shaw of Earthen Ring for 15 minutes of fame. Shaw has been a major player in keeping RP alive on both sides on our server. He does everything from helping new RPers get into the hobby to running several useful RP guides.
Shaw is currently part of the cast of the Hearthstone Tavern Podcast, the writer of RP Made Simple, and the host of the Tears Tuesday weekly roleplay event.

Sounds like a good candidate!

I would like to give 15 minutes of fame to my guild leader and his son. They have ran one of the oldest guilds on the realm, Kirin Tor, since vanilla. There have been many problems of the core raiders leaving in the past...and present. And they have managed to keep it together. They always had fun roleplay ideas, they always kept up with those who wanted a bit of pvp in the game. And they showed people how to treat others with respect and honor. Derdriu and his son Baile, are my true heroes of Azeroth. They have done a great amount of work in-game to please the hearts of others, and keep the guild and its knights moving on-word.

What about someone that is a minister, who gets to balance church, hospital visits, camps, trips, and family along with raiding. I was actually introduced to the game just after BC launched by some kids in my student ministry. Now I am sporting eight 80s, with another on the way up.
Nospoon Aug 10th 2010 8:47PM
As a current pastor who balance all that and trying to help start a dj business, I think this would be a marvelous idea. I know of several pastors who play.
Hob Aug 10th 2010 6:07PM
I don't know anyone like this, but I'd love to read the interview with someone who has 50 level 80 characters. Especially if they cover a wide range of faction / race / class / spec.
Or an interview with someone who has completed all of the achievements. There's like 3 of them now, right?
feniks9174 Aug 10th 2010 9:39PM
Someone with five 80's?
*raises hand*
Enhance/Resto Shaman
Ret/Holy Paladin
Dual-spec DPS Death Knight
Arcane Mage
Affliction/Demo Warlock
Currently leveling a Fury warrior, shadow priest, hunter and Feral Druid.
There's also at least 4 people that I know of in my guild with more level capped characters than myself.
My personal recommendation: Grim, a mage on Area 52-US-H that pulled off one of the most epic trolls I've ever seen. He spent 2 weeks in /trade telling people that he was quitting the game and giving away over 400K gold and dozens of high ticket items like Crimson Deathcharger's, Mechano-Hog's, etc. and that he would pass it all out on a specified date in Orgrimmar.
I swear, the things people will do for free money . . . .
Killik Aug 11th 2010 9:54AM
@Hob Sounds like that mage did a lot of work for not a great payoff. Sub-par trolling.

I'd like to Nominate Arunshee, a Resto druid of Detheroc. I've never met a healer who could outperform most other healers in their "roles", but it would be her. When faced with any content, she is able to do more for a raid then any other healer but she doesn't brag about it. After leaving her progression guild due to the guilds lack of progression, she routinely pug's with other guilds who are trying to see content in ICC but are lacking in some areas. She has personally helped my guild muscle through content that our DPS or tanks couldn't handle buy giving us more time to perform than we normally have. This led to us getting more gear than I feel we deserved at the time, but never did she make us feel that we owed her even though we did.
I would also like to point out the fact that as a resto druid, her spec and gem choices have been called into question by more than a few raiders or pugs. However, her performance shows that the cookie cutter answer that fits for most people doesn't fit for her and she shows it when she does more for our raids than any other resto druid, and not just a little more but a lot more. Her explanation to misinformed druids about the uselessness of Natures Swiftness in a PvE environment made these druids realize that when a person extolls the virtues of a specific ability, you need to look at it yourself and see if said ability lives up to the hype.
It also doesn't hurt that she has a level 80 of each class on Detheroc and can hold conversations with anyone about their class while at the same time keeping an open mind about why a person does something and also giving her opinion in a kind and respectful manner.
Mephet Aug 10th 2010 6:15PM
So, just throwing this out there: an arachnophobic, teen semi-nooblet (and on-and-off roleplayer) (highest level ever is 52, never seen outlands, doesn't own WotLK yet, doesn't have real in-game friends yet or know anyone who plays IRL) whose phobia has made her kind of consider quitting WoW (her first MMO ever), but has decided to try and work on it now? Because that's me. *shrug* :]
Otherwise, I suppose any machinima-maker would be awesome, but Melvenor is the absolute best! :))
talkingmike Aug 10th 2010 6:17PM
"The most hardcore, awesome, proficient player you know who manages to do incredible things with his character."
Why, wouldn't that be Wow.com's very own C. Christian Moore? I mean, he's very good at letting us all know about of his various and sundry in-game achievements, from multiple world #1 arena rankings to scarab lord to server-first hard modes! Take a look!
And he even has oh-so-eclectic taste in music (we'll ignore that Whatcha Say song that one time).
Rolly Aug 10th 2010 7:33PM
Rolly
Rolly Aug 10th 2010 7:36PM
"???" wth happened, lets try that again.
Rolly - 16 level 80's and only one a dk.
It's either a claim to fame or cause for psychiatric help.
Hey I spent 35 years working outside I enjoy sitting on my butt inside now.
Zuljo Aug 10th 2010 7:34PM
I'd like to nominate my guild leader, Hitokiri of on The Sha'tar (EU).
He's an awesome guy, who deals with a lot of stuff every day in real life (don't want to say anything here, it's very personal). He's formed connections with so many guilds on the realm through being a generally nice guy, approachable, kind, caring, etc etc.
He made the guild with a couple of friends, who have since left the game or cut their play-time down dramatically, but he keeps on trucking.
As much as the guild isn't the most successful in terms of raiding, or pvp, or RP (if you can measure success in RP...), it's home to some of the best people I know. One big happy family, really.
So, yeah - that's my reccomendation!
Fairlane Aug 10th 2010 10:09PM
Doh! This was supposed to be a reply to the adbot post (which has since vaporized).
Fairlane Aug 10th 2010 10:10PM
And now they're in the wrong order.

I would like to nominate my guild master Mysterpee of Horde Shattered Halls US. Mysterpee is our guild master of Absolute Elsewhere and he was also my 9th grade art teacher. Me and 8 of my friends still play Warcraft with him in the guild. He may not have the best gear or the most gold but he is a very helpful person, always helping with group quests, loaning his own money for our epic flying training, and running us dungeons at his expense. We've all learned as friends that just because you are separated by another school entirely, that doesn't mean we have to miss our favorite teacher in middle school.
Thank you for your consideration!
Mulchbutler Aug 11th 2010 12:42AM
I would like to see a post on someone who has not gotten any expansion yet (or at least only BC). Like maybe a GM of a guild comprised of purely players who only have Vanilla, yet still lead a successful raiding life. It would be interesting to hear what they have to say about the upcoming changes in Cataclysm.
Krz Aug 11th 2010 5:20AM
Hmm, in my old guild, everyone was the "Guild Mom"... we all helped it to work... and all got along really well... That is why it went so well.
Until the raid leadership, which wasn't part of it, went nuts and drove us crazy from overraiding.
