The Queue: Kill with fire (no really, use your Firebats)

I'm just gonna leave that right up there.
Branthan asked:
"Maybe I missed it, but do we know how much flying is going to cost in the Old World when Cataclysm?"
Nothing.
Blizzard has said a few times that flying in the old world will not require any sort of "Cold Weather Flying"-like activation; you'll be able to fly around Stormwind and Orgrimmar as soon as Blizzard enables it (and we don't know when that will be exactly). 310% flying speed will cost something, though, and we don't know what that'll be, either.
Highlighter asked:
"Are there weapon skill-ups anymore? Do I need to spend time whacking low-level mobs to level up my 1-handed sword skill so I can tank properly?"
Nope, weapon skills have been removed from the game in Cataclysm. And thank god, too ... I'm really tired of leveling up my alts' weapon skills. My rogue just got the 232 heroic dungeon axe, and it's been very annoying so far having to level it up.
Highlight also asked:
"Do characters start out with all possible weapon proficiencies for their classes, or must they run to the appropriate weapon master? For example, my Worgen hunter starts with a gun, but if I wanted to use my Heirloom Bow, would I have to run to weapon master to train Bows? Or do I start with the skill immediately?"
Proficiencies are gone as well. If you can use the weapon, you can equip it and start killing things with it right away, with no steps in between.
Guilliame asked:
"As far as you're aware, will the servers be able to support purchasing and installing from the online client on Cataclysm release date?"
We don't know if Cataclysm will be available for digital distribution right away at release. Blizzard has not said anything yet, and it likely won't until we hear when the actual release date will be. I wouldn't expect Blizzard to offer it right away, though. The huge world-wide midnight releases are a gigantic PR opportunity, one that it'd be silly to allow to go away.

Am I crazy for choosing to start out RPing, having never done so before, even though I have a Cataclysm beta?
Jamie Aug 12th 2010 1:22PM
I think it's post beta-invite anxiety, I want to play beta but I'm worried I'll spoil too much of the game.
Jamie Aug 12th 2010 2:10PM
Not a good day today, taking a break from WoW.com for a week.
Remember me as I was!
MightyBurebista Aug 12th 2010 2:12PM
You ain't crazy at all, especially since investing much passion into the beta is a waste of time and energy as you can't save the game and will just have to play through the whole thing all over again when the live game finally hits (run-on sentences, they're a specialty of mine).
I'll be RPing plenty with my Pally after I beat all of ICC and actually purchase the Cataclysm expansion, since he'll be forming a Scarlet-inspired apostate movement that will secede from the Church of Light after Benedictus's unthinkable betrayal. Join us!

No. Go do the Beta man. We have many questions for you. (Ok, maybe just me-but seeing as how this is the place for questions...) Maybe you could do a blog or do some articles for wow.com. As for the RP-ing, why not? Just stay away from Goldshire! :p

It's never too late to start Rping. It gives a whole new dimension to WoW seperating this game from games without real characters. I don't get why you are gettin thumbs downed. Don't listen to immature haters

Having played the beta for a week or two now, I'd say that having to do the thing again once live hits won't be so bad.. quite enjoyable even :) Questing and such is SO much improved, it's really a lotttt of fun and there are tons of questlines.. heck entire zones..! that I would do again in a heartbeat. I haven't even seen much of the 80+ zones yet, the redone old zones are pretty much epic now and I can't drag myself away from them because they are so much fun :D
So I'd say.. go play the beta! There is so much to see and do anyway, that there always will be things left unspoiled. Plus hey, RP needs to be tested in beta too, right? :p

I've spent some time recently RPing too, and I'm really enjoying it!
Go ahead xD

They'll probably do what they did for the SCII game.
Jamie Aug 12th 2010 1:31PM
Note: this is no way saying what Blizzard will or won't do.
I think they could go for the midnight download option but I'm pretty sure a lot of people would prefer standing outside a store and waiting to get the box, plus there is a great camaraderie about 10s of people queuing for a game they all love and can't wait for.
No doubt many people would go for the download option and it'd probably bring in news blog headlines just as much PR as the people queuing.

Busy stores might even have 10s upon 10s of people!
Sanitycrusher Aug 12th 2010 1:57PM
Meeting people who play on release day is much more fun. It's also probably the only time that deep-seeded racial hatred and stereotypes will be declared so proudly.
For WotLK release the local Gamestop had us separate into Horde/Alliance specific lines; but I really don't think that helped... :P
Skarn Aug 12th 2010 2:52PM
It's certainly possible, maybe even likely that Blizzard will offer the download option right away as they did for Starcraft 2. Well, not RIGHT away. I fully expect that if they allow the download option on release day, that it will not be until later in the day, like Starcraft 2. They want the Midnight release event to still be king for getting your game first.
Aaron Aug 12th 2010 3:16PM
If 10 people queue we could do a BG while we wait. :P
Shassar Aug 12th 2010 4:29PM
I bought Sc2 2 days after release. I was the first at the shop to buy it.
Chubz Aug 12th 2010 7:17PM
I prefer buying the CD because I have come to realize it's way faster to install off the dvds than from the site. But that's just my observation.
Eddy Aug 12th 2010 9:30PM
Hey, I got free stuff for being the only one in costume at the WoTLK opening in downtown Seattle, and people kind of sort of let me cut ahead of them a little (y'know how that works when you're not allowed to line up, and then some people do even thought they know they weren't the first ones there? They let me in front of them) and it secured me a collector's edition.
Was it weird being the only one there in costume? Oh yes. Worth a free mousepad and one of two unclaimed collector's editions? Eh. Probably.
thegatherer Aug 12th 2010 10:40PM
Also, having the physical CD's and keeping them will allow you to have a form of verification if you ever need to change information around on your account.
Dril Aug 12th 2010 1:05PM
Wikipedia link to those...things...pl0x. I want to know how I can defend myself against them when they attack.
Docp Aug 12th 2010 1:24PM
THERE IS NO DEFENSE
THEY JUST KEEP COMING
OH GOD, WHY WON'T THEY STOP
