Not much else to say here, folks -- here's your new login screen music in Cataclysm. Twelve minutes of pure epic, with themes from vanilla and every expansion afterward. Lots of references to the original login music starting at 1:30.
As a classical musician and wanna-be composer myself, this has always been one of the main things that drew me into Blizzard's games. All of them, not just WoW. Their music department is easily the best in the gaming industry.
The horn theme that starts at 5:45 gave me chills.
Very awesome to say the least, especially Invincible's inclusion; however, the seclusion on Call to Arms, one of my favorite WoW pieces that has been around forever, really made me disappoint.
While the entire track is awesome, the intro doesn't work so well as login music. We only hear a few seconds of it before logging in. Just like now with the Wrath of the Lich King music, it takes way too long to wind up before we log in.
To compare, the original title music takes zero time to start up, as it's already there as soon as it starts, and Burning Crusade takes 3 seconds to start up. Wrath of the Lich King takes 40 seconds, and this one takes 1:45.
That's way too long to be sitting at the login screen before you get to the good stuff (don't take me the wrong way, the entire thing is good, but the intro just doesn't work as well as login music compared to 1:45.) Hell maybe loop it so the second time you get the full thing, but the first play thru won't have that beginning.
For something we are going to hear over and over again for a year or two, it really should not have to build up for so long.
I'm very torn with this music. First all, don't get me wrong, its absolutely amazing, I really do like it. Its very chaotic ranging all over the place. A perfect fit for Cata.
But compared to the other intros, I'd have to say I'm still loving WOTLK's intro more. It may be that I've listened to it so much, and this new one not enough, I don't know. But there are two things about the cata intro that kind of lose it for me, and that is:
The beginning and the end.
The beginning is different from the other intros. They all start out with that familiar brass and tribal beat with the strings and voices slowly making their way in. Its chilling! While it still does this (as they said 1:30 in) it still doesn't sound like it very much at all, and sounds weak compared to the other intros.
And there is something about the WOTLK's ending that makes me want to log onto one of my melee classes and start wrecking sh*t up! (About 7:30 in).
Hard to tell though, I guess I just need to listen to this track more. But I love it!
2:50 onward, the music from the Ironforge Pally/Priest/Mage temple. When I first started play WoW right before ZG got released I would stand inside the temple for long periods of time and just get lost in how beautiful the temple looked (ok this was 2005!) and how inspiring the music was.
2:37- Ooooh It's nice to hear the "sacred" theme! That's like, the first piece of music I heard in the game besides Elwynn Forrest. I especially love it since I am a French horn player. ^^ That new theme at 5:26 is pretty fun too. Probably Goblin. 6:41- I wanna know what that is! That's awesome! It kind of reminds me of the Taunka theme, actually. 0_o 11:17- Oh I do love that 7/4 time signature.
Oh, and 11:17? EPIC part from vanilla's opening music. On my trial, I would wait until that bit of the music came in before creating characters, because it was JUST SO AWESOME. And now it's better.
Oh thanks! Somehow I missed all that unlockable content. Yeah I remember 11:17 from Vanilla. It's near the beginning of the Wrath opening too, but it sounds much better here IMO. :]

I LOVE the new intro music. I can't wait for Blizzard to release the music CD.

I really like this... it's a beautiful piece. Two thoughts though...
First, the cacophony at the beginning is what we'll probably be listening to for the next 2 years. I love the piece as a whole, but seriously?
Second: 12 MINUTES LONG? Really?? Just how long are we going to be sitting in queue??? :)

That's my one and only criticism.

6:41 is from Invincible. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wowanniversary/battlecry/
You'll find it somewhat down the page.

Didn't think it would be possible, but this made me even MORE hyped up about the expansion.
Love 6:50ish as well as 5:50ish.

Awesome and Epic!

Sounds like most of WoW's music sucks. Guess after listening to Final Fantasy XI and XIV's music this would sound like crap.
uncaringbear Aug 14th 2010 3:25AM
I guess there's no accounting for taste, but please feel free to expand on why you think Blizz's music 'sucks'.
