The Queue: The cleavening
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column, in which the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Today's edition of the Queue inspired me to show off the video of Lord Darius Crowley cleaving his way through a massive pack of worgen again. Really, I don't think you ever need a reason to watch that. It's just awesome.
richtoad asked:
"Is archaeology still in for Cataclysm? Or has it been scrapped like Path of the Titans?"
Archaeology has not been canceled (yet?), but they also have not implemented it into the beta. I imagine it will be one of the last things implemented. The zones need to be finished before they can populate them with neato artifacts for archaeologists.
Grreymage asked:
"Do you know if the worgen and the goblin factions are getting representatives at the Argent Tournament?"
They are not.
Kinson asked:
"Does anyone know who or what the skull in Pit of Saron belongs to? The one that's suspended over the big, open pit?"
I assume it was built and not ripped out of a corpse. We simply haven't seen anything that could have possibly used a skull like that. That doesn't mean such a thing doesn't exist, of course, but I find it far more likely it was built by the Scourge to be an intimidating fixture to keep the slaves in line. That thing watching you work would scare you a hell of a lot more than a glorified Eye of Kilrogg.
Garneth asked:
"Has Lord Darius Crowley made a return anywhere after the worgen starting zone?"
Yes, but you won't get to see it if you're a worgen player -- or even Alliance, for that matter. Blizzard made a very strange choice regarding the worgen storyline. The story that worgen experience in their starting zone doesn't hit a resolution at the end of it. The story leads into Silverpine Forest, which has no Alliance presence whatsoever. Forsaken players get to see what happens to Darius Crowley and his merry band, not worgen. It's incredibly disappointing, really. The worgen get shunted off to Kalimdor to do quests for the elves instead of getting to witness the resolution of their own story.

The worgen don't get to witness the resolution of their own storyline....? WHAT THE F***!? TBH that is really annoying, I hope blizz puts something in later so worgen can find out what happens via other means.

Aww, we get awesome werewolves but don't get to see the end of a story line, QQ! Stop being a noob and role a horde player then they way god intended.
Kittens Aug 16th 2010 11:25AM
Actually I kind of love how they designed this. It invites you to play both factions and look at the story from the other side as well. Not to mention that the new Silverpine Forest is the most epic zone I've encountered so far, one every wow player that cares about the story at all should play.
There's more zones designed like this, where you get the full complete story by playing both sides. I think it's pretty good!
That said, it *would* be kind of nice to see at least a little worgen quest and/or cinematic to see what happens to Crowley & co.

I would hate to see no ending, too. But wait awhile.
Death Knights didn't have a starting zone at first, and for awhile The Light at Dawn's Hope didn't exist either. After doing the last quest, you were dumped into the game.

Hopefully Blizzard will be changing this before Cata goes live : | That's kind of lame to leave it completely open-ended for Worgen players when it's -their- story.

As someone who is also in the Beta, I must agree that Silverpine is the conclusion of a number of plot threads from the worgen starting zone, and also that Silverpine is incredibly epic. I highly suggest anyone who wants to play a worgen to go through that zone at some point; if nothing else, I got a much stronger feeling of being a worgen is like than I ever did in their starting area.
Kittens Aug 16th 2010 12:45PM
@ Sorithal: the story is just as much the Forsaken story in the end, and you don't get to see all of that on worgen side either.
I think it's been confirmed that you will meet Crowley again later on in the game, so maybe you get the worgen story hen.
Zaros Aug 16th 2010 1:50PM
You guys sure that they won't just add a few higher-level quests to show the Worgen reclaiming Silverpine?
Draelan Aug 16th 2010 2:00PM
It "encourages" you to play both sides? Perhaps... But I worry that it is not a very good way to tell a story. It's too disjointed. It's like reading a book that's missing its conclusion, then being given a different book where the conclusion to the first is somewhere in the middle of it. And you're not allowed to just skip to the relevant part while it's still fresh in your mind. (Even if you roll a DK, you must play through their starting area before you can move on.)
Don't get me wrong, I do play both sides and I actually think it's kind of silly to refuse to do so because of "faction loyalty". (You're missing out!) I just think that each side should have the full story so it's not so disjointed. After all, the full story doesn't necessarily mean the SAME story. You know what they say? Ask 3 people what occurred, and you'll get 3 different stories. The perspective of the storyteller can make one hell of a difference.

I have mixed feelings about this because WoW has already done this before and it was disjointed but surprising too. I played mostly Ally when I started but then I played some horde to see more of the lore. It was a pleasant surprise to see the other side of certain story lines, some of which you can only get the full extent of by playing both sides. At the same time I found it a little aggravating because I realized I had been wondering all this time about certain things and they had been hidden in plain sight all along.
I always thought it would have been better if the story lines led you into the enemy territory a little more so that you would follow up on things for curiosity's sake instead of being denied basic information that explains the plot of things.

@Zaros
This is a little bit of an awkward question. Silverpine Forest is basically done in terms of quests, so it's incredibly unlikely that the Alliance will get any questing hubs in the area and you probably won't get to see what happens in Silverpine on an Alliance character.
On the other hand, the worgen starting area actually isn't complete yet, so we don't really know for certain how it ends. We're fairly certain that your worgen eventually evacuates out of Gilneas, presumably with Genn Greymane, but we really don't know how that's going to go down.
Also, the Battle for Gilneas City BG isn't implemented yet, as far as I know, so we don't know what's going on there, either. It probably occurs after the events in Silverpine Forest, but there's still a giant mystery surrounding Gilneas itself in the beta right now.

I guess I can't see how you can complain, if you've decided to only play half the game (by only playing Alliance or Horde), that you're only seeing half the game, as if this was anyone's fault but your own.
Fluffywumpki of Kilrogg Aug 16th 2010 3:14PM
Please keep in mind that there is a Gilnean outpost at the southern tip of the Blasted Lands which has still not been setup for quests, although the monsters are in place.

"...and role a horde player then they way god intended."
I don't recognize your dark, false "god".
Amaxe Aug 16th 2010 10:16PM
I really don't buy the whole "you have to play both sides" argument. The worgen PC have a story which they should experience, just as the Forsaken have theirs. Consider whether you would buy it if Sylvanis had a story which was cut off in the middle and to find out what happened next, you had to roll Alliance.
I really doubt it.

"...and role a horde player then they way god intended."
I don't recognize your dark, false "god".
And I don't recognize your failed attempt to communicate in English.
SamLowry Aug 17th 2010 4:05AM
So "role a horde player then they way god intended" looks perfectly fine to you?
Then I pity all you texting kiddies. Dumber than rocks and you don't even know it.

Beta question: I know that the cute-ish, puppy-ish faces the Worgan once had have been replaced in recent beta screenshots with more intimidating faces. My question is, on the beta, are those multiple options that we can choose from when picking our Worgan's face when we roll a Worgan, or do they all look intimidating and not cute now?
