The Cataclysm expansion is coming. This is going to be game-changing event. It's actually very exciting. A lot of the old world has gotten stale, and I'm eager to see it refreshed. However, if there's one piece of community lore that I will hate to see rendered not-as-relevant, it's Darrowshire.
Darrowshire is a defining moment both for characters in game and also for the WoW filk community. Darrowshire is one of the best pieces of WoW music out there, and the video that goes with it matches its sorrowful, determined tone perfectly. I don't think the song will lose much power after the reconstruction of Azeroth, but I do hope people can still be exposed to this beautiful piece of art by Cranius. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
I am truly looking forward to the changes in cataclysm, and I expect they will keep me well entertained for a long time. However, there are things about vanilla that are great and, if removed I will miss. The Darrowshire quest line is high on that list. I keep hoping that we will get something along those lines still in Cata, maybe even at some point we can use Caverns of Time to go back and revisit some of the old stuff. Who knows? Maybe someday I will even be nostalgic for STV questing. I am currently leveling some additional toons just to experience it one last time - on both Horde and Ally sides. But I can't wait till I can play me some Worgen and Goblin. :)
I think this video got me out to actually finish that quest. I tried to do the initial doll part at level and didn't make it past the ghosts (clothies get blasted in the old world).
Seeing Cranius' work again revived my curiosity about if he's doing another piece for Blizzcon or not.
Needless to say, the other video of Cranius that holds special significance for me is "Big Blue Dress," a wonderfully fast-paced and catchy tune that hammered home the fact the mages are the best class ever.
Agreed....I've been wondering for a few weeks now whatever happened to Cranius and Legs. Last time a Cranius video was posted was when "Don't Make Me Get My Main" was first released, if I remember correctly. Those two are THE machinimists that I could watch all day. It saddens me that they haven't made more lately.
Well some good news, in the cataclysm beta the quest chain for the battle of Darrowshire is still in the game for EPL, small parts are a bit different now but you still fight in the battle with all the spirits.
I don't know Cranius from Adam, but I've been a fan for several years - since Big Blue Dress. I remember when he first connected this video to his blog and a watched it. I got a little teary-eyed. I also went and did the Darrowshire quest line for the first time ever. It made me wonder what else good I had I missed, so I started paying a little more attention to quest text. As an FYI, you can buy an album of Cranius' original songs for download on Amazon.com.
Is it weird that I almost hoped that this quest would be removed from Cataclysm? Not because I don't love the quests; quite the opposite, I think it's some of the best that WoW has to offer.
But I would kind of like to think that little Pamela's spirit gets to rest along with her father.
Never thought of it that way, but yes I do feel so sad for little Pamela and I wish she could finally find rest. Always when doing that quest line I sit with her for a little while. It's just so sad to think of a little girl's spirit all alone waiting for her daddy to come home. I always carry my Tea with Sugar in my inventory, I really wish it was unlimited instead of only three charges so I could sit down and enjoy her cup of tea.
I love this song (like all songs from Cranius), but I always get teary eyed from it.
I agree! On one hand I'm glad such an epic, lore-rich quest chain is still available to new players, but on the other hand, seeing poor Pamela still there after all this time was sad, too.
I haven't used my Tea with Sugar, either. I've vendored dungeon drops that seemed awesome at the time but were quickly outgrown and not blinked over it, but I can't risk not having my Tea with Sugar anymore.
Ahhhh Cranius and Darrowshire.. the inspiration for me going back and doing the whole quest string. Of course there's Big Blue dress.. wanna make a mage anyone? And I died laughing at " Don't make me get my Main".. I mean seriously, who hasn't did the very same thing? He has so many great videos and songs and yes.. I bought his album.
IF this changes.. the quests for Finding Pamela, it will be a great loss. But I can agree with Angrycelt, they do deserve to rest in peace.
I'm delighted to see Cranius's work "rediscovered". This piece is proof positive that real art never fades and is genuine complement to the lore. Thanks for shining a light on Cranius, he deserves the recognition.
Indeed, the Darrowshire questline is one of the most touching stories in the game. I ALWAYS get choked up doing the quests and listening to this amazing song. I also love the Lady's Necklace, a Horde questline which culminates in Sylvanas singing The Lament of the Highborne. There are some quests I HAVE to do with every alt. This is one of them.
I also bought Cranius' album and I nominate Cranius for a named NPC in WoW because of all the amazing machinimas and music he has produced.
I just wish the battle for darrowshire wasn't currently bugged. Been trying to complete this quest for a while but the the quest always bugs out (Corrupted Redpath never shows and the various scourge just keep spawning until a server restart).
Not a dig at him, but I have a feeling he will be linking various classic videos over the next few times due to the complaints of the crap videos. A link to further work might not be good if you plan on posting it.
I still keep the tea with sugar reward you get for completing the quest on my main at all times to remind me of this quest. Also, this song was what prompted me to go on and do Loremaster, though after it all, there still isn't anything in the game that compares to the sad little ghost girl

Awesome piece of work. You rarely see videos like this. I'm off to do the darrowshire quests with my alts.

Cranius's outstanding classic clearly demonstrates the greatness that all the belf rap videos ever made could never hope to accomplish.

I'm surprised Michael didn't include a link to the rest of his work, he usually does.
