The other day, I was talking to a good
WoW friend about some RL stuff. None of it was anything you all would find terribly interesting, until we came upon the topic of my health. I told him I had started a probiotic regimen recently in hopes of resolving an antibiotic treatment I had taken the year before. When I tried to recount the time that it happened, my mind momentarily drew blank before I was able to spit out "it was around Ulduar."
He knew what I meant of course, but I immediately realized the absurdity of me relaying events about my real life in game time.
When I thought about it though, I figured I couldn't be the only one ... So, do your weeks start on Tuesdays? Do you say you have to be somewhere in server time? Do in-game holidays remind you an actual holiday is coming up? Was the last time you went to the dentist when you got your first Anub'arak kill?

Haha I always forget the name of my Girlfriend which happens to be on Halloween. Here in Europe we don't celebrate Halloween in every country. So I always check the WoW when Halloween is and when the seasonal starts I know its about time to go and buy her a present.
Dannyboy Aug 20th 2010 8:09AM
sorry that should have been her birthday!

I think I read your post like 3 times before I realised the author must've made a big mistake somewhere xD
Prances in Underpantss Aug 20th 2010 8:28AM
Where in Europe are you from? Because Halloween was celebrated in many parts of Europe long before America.
Seraph Aug 20th 2010 8:32AM
lmao... forgetting your girlfriend's name would be quite different... oh boy
Prances in Underpantss Aug 20th 2010 8:33AM
Sorry, that came off kinda jerky (haven't finished my coffee yet). I understand its not celebrated everywhere, just wondering where you are that doesn't celebrate it.
Dannyboy Aug 20th 2010 8:53AM
ah, from the Netherlands.

Remember folks, the important thing is he is still forgetting something...

Yes, I remember a lot of things in relation to game events, when I was raiding hard core I was almost always on server time and related what I was doing to raid. Mostly just telling people I had to go so I could be somewhere to kill something. Sometimes that went well as it reminded others, other times not so much. But well such is life I suppose. It's so different when playing WoW because other people are counting on you to be there, I think that's what a lot of people don't understand about WoW they are thinking in terms of it being a game and you're just playing by yourself and there's a pause button. As much as we might wish there is no pause. And thats kinda a random tangent but again I haven't had my coffee yet.

I don't yet equate RL events to in-game events, but I am always able to recall that I started playing WoW during the original Naxx launch event.
Having come from City of Heroes, I was used to the idea that certain zones had mobs of higher levels. So when I came from Ironforge to Stormwind via the tram, I found a high-level skeleton mob (from the Naxx event) waiting to greet me in the Dwarven District. I figured "Okay, Stormwind's for high-level players!" I turned around and went back to Ironforge.
It wasn't until a while later that I found out what was going on.

I get a permanent reminder of when I started playing :D
It was during the 5 year celebration week, and the result is that my main sports an FoS for being logged on that week - purely by coincidence, I had no idea the celebration was happening when I started.

Game wasn't out yet the last time I went to the dentist.
Jormund Fenris Aug 20th 2010 8:32AM
Man, what toothpaste do you use, and does it come with a cinnamon flavour?
Itanius Aug 20th 2010 8:54AM
Who needs a dentist when you don't have any teef?
Hiwa Aug 20th 2010 8:18AM
Oh sure, I moved to my new apartment the month BC came out.
Liz D Aug 20th 2010 9:59AM
I moved into my house that week, yup. Mental vision of loading BC into the computer, rolling a blood elf, and playing while surrounded by boxes.

Hm, interesting Breakfast Topic!
I tend to be very paranoid when it comes to time--I want to be on-time, all the time, for everything. I have schedules, and schedules for schedules. I tend to micro-manage time very seriously, planning out my day before it even starts, knowing full-well what I'm about to do. Having that extra layer of control makes it funner, as I'm not running around wondering what to do next, or doing nothing at all (time is like a really good anchovy pizza--you don't want to let any of it go to waste).

As an ex raid leader, you sound like you'd be an awesome raider.
