To be honest, I'd like to see a different system for mentoring than temporary lowering level. I have played Age of Conan and it has a quite good system to use, essentially when you mentor another character, they're level gets temporarily raised to yours. Your level is increased, but you don't gain any of the extra abilities, just your HP, Mana and Spell/Ability damage is increased accordingly. I think this would be a better system as it would allow lower level new players help to experience the more important high level content sooner. As for how experience works, I think experience is gained at the rate it would be if the low level player were killing the high level mobs, but slightly lowered (as not to give an unfair bonus). Also higher quests and gear would not be available.
Something like that...
I just think it would be more fun for the newer/lower player to do the more flavorful and expansive content at high levels rather than a high level player having to go back down to the areas he/she might have never liked the first time around.
