I understand your points, but I have to say the same applies to any one facet of this wide of a game. If you don't PvP / Raid / Fish / faction grind enough, it puts you at an imbalance with those who do. The auction house is another one of those mini-game's blizzard has allowed to thrive within it's world space, and it's ups and downs are apart of the appeal.
In general, having people playing the market tends to normalize things, buying up discounts and undercutting inflated prices.
