Since in Cataclysm, Whirlwind is supposed to hit unlimited targets with damage spreading like "meteor-based aoe", will Bladestorm be a lot less effective in huge crowds (since it casts whirlwind every second for 6)?

No numbers are final, so there is no answer for that yet. What we will most likely see, is that if there is a great big pack of trash they will likely not have that much HP, in which case big AoE abilities come into play. However, when they do have a great chunk of health we won't be charging the packs at all, like we do in the current game. CC and single target dps, controlled pulls and corner pulls, all of those fun tools will become a greater part of the game once again. If it all pans out the way it's been marketed, I think we will see the game improve quite a lot in dungeons and other group situations.

Ghostcrawler has said that they still want Bladestorm to be a major single-target DPS cooldown. Just because Whirlwind is getting the AoE buff/nerf (depending on your perspective or situation) doesn't mean the same will apply to Bladestorm, whether that means that Bladestorm will still hit as hard, or more frequently in the same time span, or what.

Last I heard Bladestorm's target cap is being removed but the damage is staying the same.
