Breakfast Topic: Design your own old-school achievements

Wrath of the Lich King introduced a new toy for players that wasn't really anything groundbreaking like phasing mechanics or vehicular combat -- the achievement system was simply that, a toy. You didn't have to complete anything on the list; you could play through the game normally and ignore the feature, but it was a fun diversion if you liked the thought of gaining imaginary points for nothing in particular. None of the rewards were particularly game-changing, but the pets, tabards and potential mounts were an added bonus for those that wanted to work toward them.
Unfortunately, since this system wasn't implemented until Wrath's release, it meant that old accomplishments, "achievement-worthy" quests and objectives weren't able to be tracked or implemented into the new system. This is sort of a pity -- there are old quests and items in game that I always thought should have some sort of achievement attached to them. For fun, I used to think about what I'd stick an achievement to and what I'd call it.

- Alas, Poor Yorick Complete the Test of Skulls. (Horde)
- You're The Dragon in Disguise Complete the Great Masquerade. (Alliance)
- All Fired Up Obtain the Drakefire Amulet. (Alliance and Horde)
- If I Had A Hammer Obtain the Mallet of Zul'Farrak (Alliance and Horde)
- Because Everybody Works Obtain the Scepter of Celebrias (Alliance and Horde)
- Looking Sharp Complete <class> Dungeon Set One (Alliance and Horde)
I could go on, but I won't -- mostly because I want to hear what everyone else has to say. How about it: If you could make an achievement for old world content, anything we haven't seen achievements for, what would it be? What would you call your achievement? If it's an Alliance achievement, what would the Horde equivalent be?

I remember getting one-shot by mage's fireballs in WSG on my 3k hp lvl 60 druid for the first time and being shocked.

Well, that's actually easy to do in any raid if you just ninja pull a boss..
SamLowry Aug 23rd 2010 11:31AM
Sounds like pvp to me. And I thought GC said they didn't like the thought of players being killed in less than a second?

End Game - Defeat Hogger at level 1 in a Raid group (Feat of Strength)
Cthulu Aug 23rd 2010 8:09AM
You can't be a level one in a raid group for quite a while now..so this achievment would be impossible.
Blurgarian Aug 23rd 2010 8:10AM
Hence why it would be a Feat of Strength now. All the impossible to complete achievements now (Level 60 ony) are Feats of Strength.
Josin Aug 23rd 2010 8:47AM
This would require trackable gear drops and stat tracking that weren't in place at the time in order to implement. So short of time-travel, it'd be impossible to implement.

@ Cthulu and Josin
The article is about old school achievements, as in "if achievements were around back then, this is what i would like to have."
Not, "this is what i would like to get now while questing in vanilla"

Being that it is a statistic that is actually tracked in your deaths field in your achievement plane, I rather see something like,"He's unstoppable!" Die 12 times to hogger.

"You be Trollin' " Successfully complete the following old world raid instances:Zul, Gurub & Zul' Aman
Gaminator: Successfully kill Gamon 10 times in a 24 hour period.
Marcosius Aug 23rd 2010 9:07AM
You really do hate Gamon don't you? :/ Poor bastard would be camped endlessly.
Bgranger Aug 23rd 2010 8:09AM
This one would be hunters only but...
My better half - Tame your first combat pet
Alcestis Aug 23rd 2010 8:13AM
Timing the Baron - Complete 45 min strat run
razion Aug 23rd 2010 8:20AM
[I want that staff]
Complete Scholomance under an hour and a half, and still don't have [Headmaster's Charge] drop. Must have a warlock in the group.
BigBadGooz Aug 23rd 2010 8:37AM
Sooo....come here often- beat the baron 100 times
So my place or your place- beat the baron 200 times
I would have these achievements if only some magic horse would drop.
Josin Aug 23rd 2010 8:48AM
I like this one, though I might call it "Baron's Chat."
thecollins Aug 23rd 2010 8:18AM
You gotta get out more! - Level one character of every class to 60.
Rewards: New title, has lots of free time.
The Impossible - Roll a male night elf caster. Level it to the level cap without complaining in any chat that the animations are bad.
Reward: Night elf-B-gone tabard. Turns all night elves in a 20 yard range into squirrels for 20 seconds.
SamLowry Aug 23rd 2010 11:27AM
Well, I never complained about my nelf's animations, but I did endlessly gripe about how darn goofy male nelfs look. So darn goofy that my second nelf had to be female...and I kinda suspect the difference in appearance is so marked because male nelfs were a hastily-completed afterthought.
I mean, really, who doesn't want more female nelfs running around?
