Tuesday Morning Post: Soon edition

Okay, that's a lie. I want Cataclysm now. Well, not now, because it's obviously still sort of buggy and needs testing. But you get the picture. Of course, what we want and what we get are generally two different things. That said, this morning may be relatively unique in that there is, as of this writing, no anticipated downtime. I'm reminded of a Simpsons episode in which Moe gets an ex-Navy deep fryer. "This baby can deep-fry a buffalo in thirty seconds!" "Thirty seconds?! But I want it now!"

Looking at Loremaster in the Beta, I think it'll be much easier to do it after 4.0 hits

I hope either Final Fantasy XIV or the Old Republic are fun enough to replace WoW for me. I've gotten really tired of Blizzard's "Soon" policy
You want to rebuild the entire game and make the experience more enjoyable for new customers? Fantastic. How about some new content for the customers that already pay you? We don't even have holidays to distract us right now.

If you feel the current content doesn't fulfill your needs, you can cancel your subscription and save / spend it on things you feel will do so and re-subscribe when new content is released. That's the beauty of subscription based gameplay :P
Also, if they shift resources into creating content to be used before cataclysm release, it's going to take away time and resources that would otherwise be used to add more content to the expansion and/or release cata earlier.

As a holiday addict, it would be nice to have some kind of August holiday. Maybe something beach or island themed.

Yeah. Some new content for people already paying them, you know.
Oh wait, what about 80-85, Skywall, Bastion of Twilight, the other raid, and the 8 or so 5 mans.

Ah, darn it. I *want* us to have some downtime. There's a quest that the family members I introduced to the game want to do, and I'm going to have one of my alts help them, and the darned thing's bugged out. Server reset was my best hope.

I'm more interrested in when 4.0 comes.. It will be the most important update, ever. More important than the exansion itself, i think.

I thought the release date was the first Tuesday after it was done.

This ^^ which is "a few months" from IDK.

I remember right before LK launched, GC said that the target was to have a new expansion out every 12-14 months.
Now I know that Cataclysm isn't exactly an expansion, but rather a full relaunch of the game, but its projected launch is a full two years after LK.
I'm disappointed that they're so far off target, and probably over budget (lol), but I will tell you what I am stoked about...
1: This is a game changer, and it changes more than just the World of Warcraft. You've heard the term WoW-Clone. Well, with all these new features, they've raised the bar on what can be considered a WoW-clone. Games like (Project?) Copernicus are going to have to add a lot of stuff to their social and guild systems just to stay competitive, and I'd say it even raises the bar for those two extra MMOs that Blizzard has in development.
I think with old Azeroth dead and ran through the voodoo grinder that the term WoW-clone might even be considered a compliment.
2: From what I understand 10 man and 25 man achievements will drop the exact same loot. This probably means that 10 man stuff will be... less of a joke. Lets face it, naxx 10 was a joke, ulduar 10 was a joke, ToC 10 was a joke, and as far as I raided into ICC 10... hilarious.
But they should be able to make uniform gear requirements between the two versions of the instance, but I still believe that the community at large is going to manage to muck that up for us as well.
