Wowcrendor wins another round with How to Win At Cataclysm Beta. This time, the Sultan of Sarcasm examines the multi-layered culture of beta testers. Clearly, everyone who's currently rocking out in the beta were hand picked for their fine-tuned beta testing skill, right? Well, maybe not. And that's a huge part of Wowcrendor's point in this.
Wowcrendor's material is brilliant because he clearly loves the game and has an instinctual knack for reproducing community phenomena. It's a clear view from insider the community which helps to enrich his entire approach. Not to mention, the guy's funny. I'm pretty sure that helps, too.

In my household my daughter is the beta tester while I waste my time on live getting Loremaster and not worrying anymore about gear. I've already seen how fast my purples are getting replaced in the expansion--why even bother anymore?
It's actually a nice break from the stress of trying to get BETTER BETTER BETTER gear. She plays with premades, reports bugs, has a blast, and I take a little vacation.
I would love to beta test for all the reasons above. I just want to make this game work better so its more fun and engaging when it goes live and when I'm playing it for the next 2-3 years I wont be sitting next to Deathwing's corpse fir the 9999 time with my BiS gear going "now what?" like I am in wrath.
No it's not. I've never even seen that video that you linked. That video copies from a bunch of other videos too, created back in the 50s-60s, where a narrator would talk to a character in the story. An "Instructional" type video.
This, Little Billy, would be the point where you should go and ask your mommy and daddy to tell you about old television cartoons. Go ahead, we'll wait. What's that? You can just look them up on the 'internet' now? Well we've never heard of THAT. Stop being foolish and go ask your parents, Billy.
It was awesome he was able to return to Billy, but the GO guy again? LOL!!! He could make a whole video around that guy, he was the undisputed star of "How to win at Pugs and Gearscore", another Crendor smash.
I am avoiding the Cataclysm beta for two reasons. One I don't want to spoil the new stuff for myself. Two because I would feel guilty unless I actually WORKED at being a beta tester and I don't really have the time to work at it.
Unfortionately various developers *cough* Cryptic *cough* use beta "tests" as a free demo for their products. The developers arn't actually looking for in depth feedback they have already decided how they are going to do things they are just using it as a stress test and marketing tool.
The Alganon Beta was a PRIME example of this. The game had flaws and bugs all over the place. Several commited testers, (myself included) spend hours and hours and hours documenting bugs, imbalences and problems only to have our feedback completely ignored by the vainglorious David Allen.
Unfortionately this means that when Blizzard or Valve or any other developer with a brain announces a beta test 95% of the people that get in are merely there as part of the sight seeing crowd and not actually there to make the game better.

Why, because he said "how to "? Google that phrase and you will get 7,280,000,000 + matches.

You have to watch the video zzz.
It's obviously inspired from that.
The narrator and billy all came from there.
