The Queue: Now, that's a beard

Now Rossi, that's a beard. If you can do that, I'll be impressed.
Deadlysteve asked:
"Is there any lore reason that the sentinals (guards) around Teldrassil are all female? I don't know why, but it's been bugging me for some reason."
The night elf men mainly went on patrols and excursions outside of the night elf homeland, and the females stayed back and protected it. Men were also (more traditionally) druids and females were (more traditionally) priests/healers/everything else. You can surmise this by reading the books, and it's obviously carried over at least somewhat into the current Warcraft lore.
I also really like Oni Stardust's side note about the night elves' similarities to the drow of the Dungeons and Dragons universe. While I'm a big WoW fan, I'm perhaps an even bigger fan of the D&D lore, and Oni pretty much hits the nail right on the head:
Hal asked:As a side note, the night elves take a fair amount of inspiration from the drow of Dungeons and Dragons.
In drow culture, females are considered to be superior to men, and because of such, females have greater rights and opportunities than males. This is mostly due to the influence of their goddess, Lolith, who isn't particularly fond of men.
Although in the case of the drow, the females tend to be casters and the males are usually warriors, while it's the other way around with night elves. Although in both cases, the priesthood is run by females.
Basically, if you take the good alignment and nature-loving aspect of traditional elves, add the dark, goddess-worshiping, female-dominant aspects of the drow, and throw in the female warrior culture of the Amazons, you'll have night elf society in a nutshell.
"Are there any new (or updates to existing) weather effects in Cataclysm? I love coming into a zone to find rain/snow, but I'm curious if the unbalancing of the world will bring wilder weather."
There's a gigantic tornado out in Darkshore (and not the mob kind that roams around Westfall). If you consider that a weather effect, then that's new. But other than that, there have been no new "snow" or "rain" types of weather. Neat idea, though -- maybe they could implement some weather where it rains down fire and brimstone or something.
Hakiadara asked:
"What are the chances that a 'triple spec' will ever be made available? I'd gladly pay 10k+ for it, as would others, I assume, so if Blizzard ever needs a gold sink in Cata ... triple spec, here I come!"
None. Blizzard has said a few times that this is something it won't allow. Dual specs allow for the game to be played when you have to "sacrifice" your spec for the greater good (like a tank or a healer). Triple specs would allow the game to be played without making any choices about your overall playstyle, which wouldn't be very much fun.

SANTA?
Scooter Aug 26th 2010 11:28AM
Ah yes, I remember this picture. It was taken shortly after Santa's epic battle with Cthulu. A mischievous cult member go the idea to send his pseudo-deity a present last Christmas. As we all know Santa holds an ever present knowledge of the home of every sleeping creature in the universe and was easily able to find the sleeping giant. Upon delivery Santa's mighty presence caused the creature to wake and being what it is... attack the first thing it saw. Santa knew the only thing that could stop it was to lull it back to sleep. While his plan was successful, Santa was forced to defend himself by using his beard to absorb the creatures reality warping attacks, hence the resemblance to the creatures own squid-like form. Rest assured folks Santa is doing much better and his beard (the only beard to rival Chuck Norris' in power) is back to normal.
Now if I could only remember the take of when Santa Claus fought Chuck Norris to a standstill on the Christmas of 1983.

That is obviously not a human, but a very elaborately-groomed dwarf.

My vote goes to Gnome, actually. I can just hear him saying "Coagulated Dairy Product!" for the camera.

Don't forget that before the Sundering, there were many male leaders and male guards. Thats when they practiced magic as well. This all changed after the Sundering and when Tyrande became high priestess. Remember Ravencrest?

Azhara was still the Queen, though.
But you make a good point.
vinniedcleaner Aug 26th 2010 2:54PM
She was more a figure head/eye candy. Xavius was the one that really controlled the kingdom. After the Sundering and the fall of the night elf monarchy, the only form of 'government' was the priesthood. Hence the reason behind the female presence as guards.

"She was more a figure head/eye candy."
Even after 10,000 years, things haven't changed much for the night elves.
