Call for Submissions: Pitch us your big idea

Your proposal synopsis should clearly outline the topic of your article and its major highlights. The synopsis should consist of three to four paragraphs about your idea -- enough to give us a taste of the tone and content you plan to bring to your article. Tell us what your article will be about, give us a basic run-down of the points you will discuss, and let your writing show us the general tone and approach we expect your piece to take. Should we accept your proposal, we'll open an assignment for the article, which will be evaluated separately and may or may not be accepted. Final articles should run between 750 and 1,000 words. We are likely to accept more proposals and make more assignments than we will accept and publish finished articles; only the very best articles will make it through to publication.
We will not accept proposals submitted under player names or pen names; please use your full, real name and email. Please include your email address again at the bottom of your synopsis in the body of your submission. Links should be included as full URLs in the body of the copy; no active links, please. Artwork is not mandatory, but any you choose to include must be work of your own or from Creative Commons.
Unfortunately, the Seed program currently only accommodates submissions from individuals living in the United States, and we are not accepting submissions outside of the Seed service. We hope to make international submissions available at some point in the future; check Seed.com for updates.
To submit an article, read up about our guest post program, then sign up for Seed. WoW.com articles are not listed among Seed's open category listings; click here to view the assignment and submit your article. (You won't be able to see it unless you have a Seed account.) We'll accept submissions for this assignment until 12:00 midnight EDT on Fri., Sept. 3. If you have further questions about this assignment, drop us a line at seed@wow.com. Good luck and good writing!

My idea would be to have a "Care and Feeding of Warriors" article penned entirely by Rossi's beard.
Is it possible to employ Rossi and his beard at the same time? If they both post articles does he get paid twice? Can Rossi be fired if his beard does better work?
Probably better questions for the Queue.
niko Aug 27th 2010 2:34PM
I think the answer is simple: Rossi's beard is not a citizen of the US, despite being attached to Mr. Rossi much like that of a suckling baby to its mother's breast... except Rossi's beard would never do that, it would only destroy worlds while looking badass.
I mean, no SSN, no citizen, no SEED program, no employment, amirite? :)
just don't tell Rossi's beard that, ok? I still kinda like Planet Earth.

I think it's pretty backward that you still can't accept submissions from outside of the USA. I'm sure there must be a simple solution to that. Meanwhile, all us budding writers from the UK and elsewhere will have to find somewhere much more boring and less cool to post on.

Yeah, it's not like they couldn't just use an email address for those outside the US. I understand that AOL wants them to push SEED but since they currently don't want anything to do with Europe would they really care if you opened things up through a normal email address to those outside of the USA.

One would think that AOL Time Warner would be an internationally scoped company. Alas.

Here's a big idea: Have a warlock columnist who stays on the job for more than a week, and who posts regularly.
John Aug 27th 2010 3:25PM
Lol see even the warlock columnist hates warlocks. Pst... He rolled a Mage.

Did the new guy leave already? I liked him! and the one before him too.
Christian lower the force of your pew pew you are hurting the enemy too much!
its like queing for ab: long queues since the other side doesn't queue.

I'm not going to write a column, but a great idea for one is things you can do to prepare for your new goblin/worgen! Thoughts?

Well since the article I submitted earlier just got accepted, I guess I'll give this one a go as well.

What if you don't care about the money and would happily submit something for free?
I've just gotten my Girlfriend into WoW and I've noticed that her wide-eyed enthusiasm has really started to rub off on me - I was bored with the game, firmly stuck in the pre-cataclysm doldrums - yet now I find myself once again experiencing WoW as a new comer and not a jaded ancient. Everything is exciting again!
I have started doing some team leveling with her - she's level 11... after 2 weeks. but thats ok! Speed isn't the aim - She loves leveling slowly, and to her; every single level that she gains is a landmark achievement. It's beautiful to be a part of - it brings back nostalgic memories of Vanilla when seeing a level 60 was like being in the presence of a God and hitting level 30 made you feel like you could do anything.
The way her fresh eyes see the game is incredible - She will be awed by things I find mundane and droll. The other day I showed her Dalaran on my main - she was impressed, for sure - but when I flew off and she realised the entire city was suspended in the sky, she literally squealed.
I would love to write an article about this, but can't - I'd even do it for free. It's been a beautiful experience where my Girlfriend (who is not a gamer in anyway) has actually made me want to play WoW again after a break of 8 months! I'd love to share this with everyone on Wow.com and I think it would make a great article (or a few) is there anyway I can do this?
I've realised, through this experience, that WoW isn't such a great game because of the detailed mechanics - but because of the sense of wonder, imagination and excitement it evokes in those who play it - even those without a gaming background.
Cheers,
Matt

is there one about Altoholism? If not. . . i sense a need.

Hi, I just want to say that it positively sucks that you are using this service which disallows us not living in the US.
Anyway, I have an idea, obviously it wont be considered because I can't enter it but hopefully it inspires someone to suggest an article on the topic.
Damage per second.
What is it exactly? Why is it important? What is it that makes this number a defining statistic for all the DPS classes?
I'm sure the answer to these questions if researched are less conclusive than many may think. It surprises me to no end that people don't understand that DPS is practically as arbitrary as gear score.
I'd love to see a feature article to open the minds of people to explore these questions further.

My big idea? Open these up to the rest of the world already!
Joe Aug 28th 2010 3:52PM
Anyone else feel that between this post and the call for submissions for breakfast topics that the wow. Com staff is getting a power word barrier like writers block?
vanillabean Aug 28th 2010 7:28PM
All the more reason to open these submissions up to everyone, not just the people in the US. More fresh content.
I for one am not going to hand out my ideas for free via e-mail. Someone from the US would be paid for the same ideas.
