Call for Submissions: Fill our cup with Breakfast Topics
Help fill the WoW.com Breakfast Topic cup with hot, fresh topics! What's on your mind (and what do you think is on other players' minds) when it comes to the World of Warcraft? Write it up as Breakfast Topic and submit your article for a chance to be published right here on WoW.com.
We're looking for Breakfast Topics in our usual conversational style, asking the community for their thoughts on a WoW-related topic. Submissions should be between 200 and 400 words. (Watch that top end!) We're looking for strong writing in combination with topics that will spark an interesting conversation. Only the best submissions will be accepted.
WoW.com does not accept articles submitted under player names or pen names; please use your full, real name and an actual email address. Please include your email address again at the bottom of your submission. Artwork is not mandatory, but any you choose to include must be your own work or via creative commons.
Unfortunately, the Seed program currently only allows us to accept submissions from individuals living in the United States, as Seed.com accounts currently are not supported by non-US IP addresses. We hope the platform will be closer to readiness for international access later this year. Check seed.com or the Seed blog for updates.
To submit an article, read up about our guest post program, then sign up for Seed. WoW.com articles are not listed among Seed's open category listings; click here to view the assignment and submit your article. (You won't be able to see it unless you have a Seed account.) We'll accept Breakfast Topic submissions for this call-out until 12:00 a.m. EDT on Fri., Sept. 17. If you have additional questions about this assignment, drop us a line at seed@wow.com.
Have you ever wanted to write for WoW.com? Your chance may be right around the corner. Watch for our next call for submissions, and be sure to sign up for Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW.com. The next byline you see here may be yours!

As a Canadian who can't sign up for Seed, may I just email a suggestion to the wow.com staff?
vanillabean Aug 28th 2010 12:27PM
Nope, as Canadians we get shafted on all one-off calls like this one.
Occasionally WoW.com will need a permanent staff writer, which is open to Canadians, but right now in general AOL is failing to recognize the world outside the US.
Robin Torres Aug 28th 2010 12:59PM
Actually, if you wish to email us suggestions or tips, just go here: http://www.wow.com/contact/comments
vanillabean Aug 28th 2010 1:20PM
But we won't get any compensation for it.
Samuel Reese Aug 29th 2010 11:38AM
If you want to be compensated by a US company, you'd have to fill out the necessary temporary work visas to become an eligible contractor and obtain a US Taxation Number (similar to a SIN but specifically for income for the US). Following that, you'd need to fill out the Form W-8BEN to tie both your SIN to the USTN, where approximately 30% of the income you'd make from the contract would need to be claimed on your tax forms the following year.
Or...you could just simply e-mail the suggestion out of the goodness of your heart and live with knowing you've contributed to the WoW community as a whole.
IANAL, but I am an American trying to immigrate to Canada so I know a thing or two about these processes.
Agerath Aug 28th 2010 12:08PM
That looks like a nice cup of joe.
Alcestis Aug 28th 2010 12:27PM
doesnt this fall under discrimination act?
Agerath Aug 28th 2010 12:28PM
...Because, as we all know, writing for WoW is an inherent right...
vanillabean Aug 28th 2010 12:36PM
"...Because, as we all know, writing for WoW is an inherent right..."
Says the American...
It is discrimination, however not enough to be able to raise a stink over.
From the article:

Lame excuse is lame.
Agerath Aug 28th 2010 12:53PM
@vanillabean:
Firstly, I'm not American.
Secondly, Webster's defines Discrimination as "treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination. "
The reason people outside of the US aren't able to submit new content is most likely because of legislation in areas outside of America, not because WoW.com doesn't like you or your race/insert arbitrary factor here.

Seed don't accept non-US signups because their payment methods are tailored to the US. You need to fill out some kind of tax form for the US IRS if you sign up (according to their FAQ). Most likely, they would need new forms of payment for every new country they accepted.
I still wish they'd at least try to get it working for the EU, but I doubt they see it as a priority.

This might seem like a random comment to make, but why do all the pictures of coffee you guys post on this website look so... gross? I mean, I drink a lot of coffee. A lot a lot. Like, two pots a day. And I would never drink a cup of coffee that looks like that. I mean, ew. What did you guys do to that coffee? :S
Agerath Aug 28th 2010 12:55PM
What's wrong with it? That's how coffee looks when you don't buy it from starbucks.
A bit short on froth, admittedly, but hey.
JC_Icefox Aug 28th 2010 1:59PM
Seriously, if you think that deliciously dark and rich cup looks disgusting, I have to ask what kind of Mud Swill are you drinking?
Al Aug 28th 2010 3:09PM
All coffee is disgusting, at least to me.
Valtor Aug 28th 2010 3:59PM
that's not how my coffee looks...maybe thats how coffee looks WHEN you buy it from starbucks, but I guess that's why they have a lid on it.
Mine is smooth and black
Jamaica Blue Mountain > everything
zdave Aug 28th 2010 5:15PM
I agree, Twinflame. That stuff looks like poo. Actual poo, not bad coffee poo.
Skumletor Aug 28th 2010 8:07PM
It's turkish coffee actually. The most delicious coffee in the world.
Twinflame Aug 29th 2010 4:13AM
Look, I dunno what kinda coffee it is and isn't. But I know when I get a really good cup of coffee in my hands, it's either black or beige, never mud-colored. And that thin layer of foam on to; I don't even know what that is. Coffee shouldn't have foam on it unless it's got that steamed milk whatchamadooly that Starbucks does.
So maybe this is a cup of steamed mud? Ick.
loreaddict Sep 7th 2010 1:48PM
I never wanted to say it, but that cup of coffee always remembered me of this Austin Powers movie scene for some reason...
