WRUP: Bittersweet cacophony

This weekend is bittersweet for the WoW.com staff. While the freedom weekends bring is wonderful, this is the staff's final weekend with the lovable miss Liz Harper around. It was Liz that made this website home for many of us, and I know that I personally wouldn't be where I am today without her. We'll miss you Liz, but don't worry -- we'll keep the wheels spinning around here.
Of course, we can't have the whole weekend be a downer, so we have yet another bonus question in this week's WRUP. If Outland was hit with a(nother) cataclysmic event, who or what would you like to see make a comeback?
Adam Holisky (@adamholisky): This weekend I'm going to two festivals around the area, and am going to attempt to spend as much time in the beta as possible when home. The day star hurts me though, and hopefully Katie will recognize this and let me stay inside and play as much as possible. As far as a boss in Outland that would make a comeback, clearly it's Kael'Thas. Third time's the charm.
Alex Ziebart (@alexziebart): My weekend will probably be full of cleaning the house for the company we have coming over next weekend. Hooray for washing carpets! As for the bonus question, it's no secret that I liked The Burning Crusade a lot more than Wrath of the Lich King. There's a lot that I would like to see happen. I'd like for Khadgar and Trollbane to actually do something if they're going to stick around. Turalyon and Alleria need to make their comeback, maybe saved by their son. Maiev Shadowsong is just badass, so she needs to be up and moving, too. My list is endless.
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert): I'll be drafting what I hope will be a decent restoration edition of Shifting Perspectives and hoping that the beta's scrolling combat text gets fixed so that cat DPS gets less annoying to evaluate. Otherwise, more tanking/healing Cataclysm 5-mans. If Outland got the Cataclysm treatment, I'd get Akama and the Ashtongue involved in the player storylines much earlier. Akama's a great character.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): I will be merrily writing my butt off. It's a scientific process. If Outland got the Cataclysm treatment? GRIFTAH'S EMPORIUM. It would be huge, right across the street from Shattrath, and have the same amazing neon orange and green color scheme as his fabulous outfit. Jadaar and Asric would be working there as stock boys and spend their days griping about the "good old days" when they were in Northrend facing the terrors of the Scourge, possibly with some cheeky commentary about the economy. As for Griftah, he would sell an assortment of trinkets, baubles, and rare artifacts that he has "acquired" from "faraway lands." Harrison Jones would be skulking around outside griping about how the items BELONGED IN A MUSEUM. Possibly once a week there would be some sort of fistfight between Jones and Griftah.
Amy Schley (@wowlawbringer): Possibly raiding on my shaman who is now feeling far more comfortable in ICC. Working should take up most of the rest of the time.
Chase Christian (@madsushi): Going to be doing some cleaning around the house in preparation for family coming this way, and definitely playing some more of the Cataclysm beta. My favorite part of the Outlands was also Griftah, although I already set him up in Dalaran...Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): I'm moving this weekend, so little to no gaming for me. As far as Outlands go, I want to see Maiev, vindicated and kicking ass against new threats. The woman gets way too much hate, and she deserves better. I also want more Ethereals, but that goes without saying. Where are my Goblin/Ethereal trade wars, or the Protectorate fighting the Burning Legion?
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives): A little bit of turn-based portable fun with Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy IX.
Gregg Reece (@undeadfish): I have a feeling that I'm going to be without computer access most of this weekend due to other real world obligations. As for the bonus question, I want the rumored Inverted Kara raid that is an upside-down copy of the building directly below it.
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): For The Lore will be celebrating episode 50 this week which will also mark (roughly) our 1 year anniversary. We are planning for festivities and hilarity as it marks our 5th drunk tank. Should be a good time for all so be sure to join us live for some mayhem! I would love to see more about Akama and Kurdran Wildhammer if they went back to Outland. Always two NPC's I liked the lore of and would have loved to interact with backstory, or even the current story more with them.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): Lamenting over the loss of our dear Liz, working on comics/art stuffs, getting ready for PAX next weekend, and playing games! WoW (both current and beta), Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (still), and maybe some Steam stuff. If Outland got the Cataclysm overhaul, I'd like to see either Nagrand or Blade's Edge come back. Nagrand because it's, well, Nagrand, and Blade's Edge because that would just be crazy-epic.
Lisa Poisso (@emused): Cataclysm beta. Bonus question: More Consortium? Yes, please!
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): This weekend is an attempt at putting together an Ironbound Drake run in Ulduar and some general WoW crap. Also, writing. If Outlands got the Cataclysm treatment, I'd like to see Garrosh return home and bring his people to Azeroth as the hero. He needs to go back and show everyone he became a leader and not a whiny dingus.
Matthew Rossi (@matthewwrossi): Bye, Liz. I'll miss you. This weekend I'll be packing. Turalyon and Alleria for the bonus question.
Rich Maloy (@stoneybaby): The usual: Quality time with the girlfriend, raiding, show production. If Outland went boom and got redone I'd like to see more of Maiev Shadowsong. She should become the next blood-crazed faction leader and I want to see her badassery in person. "She has become vengeance itself..." - Malfurion Stormrage
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): Beta. I think there should be a temporal rift with a causality loop, forcing you to play the same content over and over. ... oh. Seriously though, I think having some kind of temporal vortex causing you to be able to see and participate in the flight of the Draenei or the foundation of Shattrath City or any of the other events that took place in lore just before The Burning Crusade expansion.

Character to come back as a fightable boss:
Robo-zombie Kael'thas. Magister's Terrace and having no head was merely a setback!
Character to come back as an interactable NPC:
Teron Gorefiend and/or Anub'arak as members of the Knights of the Ebon Blade or as members of the Forsaken.
Deathknighty Aug 28th 2010 2:20PM
Pretty sure we killed Anub'Arak (twice), plus Teron Gorefiend has no affiliatoin with either scourge or forsaken, being an old demonic horde undisbutably-evil type of guy who really would like us all to die, so neither of those are likely to happen.
Still Anub as a friendly NPC could be interesting.
Krz Aug 29th 2010 3:38AM
Anub'arak was one of my favourite characters from TFT... I'm sad he has to die so much.
Yep, it was all one big happy family. Arthas, Kel'thuzad, and Anub'arak :(

What is Liz Harper going to do now?

A host of Titans land on Outland and begin the reconstrution of the Shattered Planet.
Hellfire Citadel becomes the last refuge of the Burning Legion on Outland. Shadowmoon Valley's skies clear. Tempest Keep docks itself near Firewing Point. The Ethereum mothership arrives in Netherstorm. Nath is summoned by Orcish Priests. Ogres are used as templates for Draenor's "Earthen". Maiev assembles the next generation of Demon Hunters. The Illidari use an Ata'mal Crystal to ressurrect Illidan... and Gul'Dan.
cartmensfoe Aug 28th 2010 3:27PM
Since there was rumored to be an Ata'mal Crystal in Hellfire that may work, but i thought that you had essentially retaken the village where it was by killing the demon.
To me, Shadowmoon Valley wouldn't look the same if it weren't all dark and horrifying. I admit it is kind of annoying flying over there and NOT be struck by green lightning (Blizz, Shammy Idea Plz?).
Exactly, since Tempest Keep is a spaceship why doesn't it move, would be awesome.
STONE OGRES!!!
Maiev is awesome as is, she could team up with the guardians of hyjal and OWN the twilight hammer.
See #1, could work if we fight a less powerful version of Illidan or Gul'dan, or maybe interupt their Resurrection. Maybe as Alliance you fight Illidan with the assistance of Malfurion and Tyrande for his treason and as horde you fight Gul'dan for his crimes against the Orcish race with Garrosh and the Ghost of Grom, sort of a bonding moment with father and son. Would make me roll a hordie just to see Garrosh express some emotion that isn't hatred.

I want to see an order of benevolent warlocks along with a shaman faction to come together to try to un-invert outland, sort of reportalize it back out of the twisting nether and back how it was before.
(p.s. - Thank you Rossi for explaining the twisting nether and outland. I hadn't realized that the planet wasn't always in the twisting nether, and that the whole planet was pulled there with all the demonic portals and planet twisting people did to it.)
cartmensfoe Aug 28th 2010 3:16PM
Starting ICC 10 run with the guild tonight, first time in together and only a few people know the fights. Lets hope for a success on at least the first 4.
Hopefully getting back into Dailies in my off-time. Want to get back over 20kG over all my chars, at 1800 something.
School also starts on... wednesday? Need to get prepared for that.
As for the comeback, Akama and Maiev were both awesome characters, but i'd like to see the DK from Black Temple or the 3-faced chick rock thing. Maybe emphasise more on Deathwing's secret lair.

OMIGOSH YES!
Why didn't I mention the Arakkoa? I love those guys!
Voltaire Aug 29th 2010 10:28AM
Arrakoa as a playable race.
DO WANT!
Atomic_explode Aug 28th 2010 3:30PM
I fully support an upside down version of Kara, provided the opera event is replaced by a symphony... OF THE NIGHT!
...Unless that's not what you were going for, in which case it can just be a normal upside down version of a popular raid.
Vladeon Aug 28th 2010 5:45PM
Maybe they'll call it Nahzarak instead of Karazhan?
Cadychan Aug 29th 2010 3:15AM
/high five for getting the game reference

The lovely thing about Draenor is that the Outland is only the largest known inhabited chunk. If they ever wanted to add new material, they only limit would be their imagination.
You can count me among the players who miss BC. I never raided and will never raid, so it's not "boohoo it used to be hard" or anything, at least not for me. I just loved how the art team got to run wild with zone design. Everything didn't have to be snow and skulls. I never thought skulls would get boring!
Vaeku Aug 28th 2010 6:59PM
I agree. I started playing a week before Wrath was released, so I really never got to play in Outland when it was in its heyday, but it always was my favorite area. I'm a draenei lore-nerd so Outland was amazing. Not that Northrend isn't cool, I love Icecrown and such, it's just... really depressing. At least in Outland you had a huge variety of landscapes.
Randomrestodruid Aug 28th 2010 5:44PM
Have an Ethereal ship land in Blade's Edge, which would be their starting zone, and have the Arakkoa start out in Skettis-Terokkar as their starting zone under the leadership of Rilak the Redeemed.
Fletcher Aug 29th 2010 5:12AM
Maiev. Maiev Maiev Maiev Maiev Maiev. I love Maiev so much more than is rational. I want Maiev back, I want a Warden hero class, and I want the final quest of the Warden hero class' phased starting zone to be to help Maiev kill Tyrande. The guilty shall SUFFER!
Oh, and I want Maiev to be dual-wielding the Warglaives of Azzinoth.
mcnerdson Aug 29th 2010 6:05AM
Why? That circle of an axe is pretty beastly, she should invest in another...just dont buy it from gold farmers!
