I first featured this song a few months ago. WarLock is a collaboration piece by Cryssy, Sharm and Quixotica. It celebrates that most DoT-oriented class. At the time, there was a lot of hubbub about my use of "iconic" to describe Kesha. To be fair, I never said anything about whether I find that style of performance good or not; I only really said that if a person hears it, that person tends to think of Kesha.
But I'm especially glad for WarLock because whenever I hear the music from Tik-Tok, it's WarLock's lyrics that spring to mind. WarLock has completely eclipsed the original in my subconscious, so I get to have that little party dance with myself. It's the little victories that make life worth living.
Now is good timing to bring WarLock back up, because I hear Cryssy is working on a new project, so I hope to see that come to fruition soon. In the meantime, I'm just glad to have a few of Keisha's lyrics gone from my brain.
Edit: Fixed the spelling of Keisha. When spellcheck goes wild, right? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
I really enjoy machinima and read Moviewatch everytime, but why are there so many music videos? This isn't a shot at the column, just a random outcry to the community.
I'd love to see more like Blind (for cool factor) and NubTales (for comedy factor) and less like MTV ripoffs. :/
Apparently it's much easier to rehash something old than it is to create something new. As evidenced by the way that most of these music videos are simply trying to emulate the same exact formula that pop music videos have been using for decades now. Most of the time they're not even making their own music; they're just (often poorly) constructing loosely WoW-related lyrics on top of some other, much more popular, recording artist's melody. Then they use the same stable of stock animations to edit together scenes of characters doing /say or /yell emotes into the camera, between scenes of random combat scenes or half naked toons using /dance. Pull something out of the filter effects menu on your video editor to lay on top of everything... and that's how you make a Moviewatch article feature video. :P
I really like the actual video here, the effects are well done and so is the timing. However, while the singing starts out strong, I think it falls a little weak once it hits the chorus. If you've ever really listened to TikTok, she never actually "sings" per-say. She's talking and auto-tuned. :P
I feel the girls try to sound a little to "pretty" by singing the chorus as they do. It drags the entire momentum of the song down, and it seems out of place with how they perform the rest of it. Nevertheless, it was a fun watch. :)

"Keisha?" I think maybe your spellcheck ate Kesha's name.
Nandini Aug 30th 2010 12:08PM
Yes, it seems her music must be iconic enough to remember, but her name is not iconic enough to spell correctly (3 times).

Wait, what?
MTV has music again?
Dreamstorm Aug 30th 2010 12:18PM
There's not THAT much stuff around. We have to do with what we have, even if that means recycling overused MTV ripoff machinimas.
Also, more WoWCrendor!

I'm sorry fellas, this song doesn't cut it for me. There's only one True Warlock song for all Warlocks out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25Ewd_fpETI
Funny I have yet to find a decent WoW Related video using this song. It's so freaking fitting.
