Blizzard made the Maelstrom. Beta testers checked it out. Some complained it didn't feel "epic enough".Blizzard made it more "epic" in the beta.
VOILA!
Will be gone in live though ;-)

It probably won't be sadly :( As stated above, this was done as an inside joke when several of the beta testers went on the beta forums and complained that the Maelstrom didn't seem...."epic enough"

Live nothing, it's already gone.
In its absence the Maelstrom is so epic, only Thrall and a Wildhammer dwarfette can survive. All players are instantly killed upon entry, or rez, or blinking, Ut! a nueron fired, that counts, DEAD!

Yep. Boubouille from MMO-Champion made a very similar screenshot and subsequently posted it to r/wow on reddit, and maybe a few other places (that's just where I saw it).

You can see that the screen shot submitted is actually a cropped version of that one.

And then they used Photoshop to move the shark slightly to the left, add some water spray, remove the laser beam, add in a name tag and move all of the mountains that were behind the shark. Other than that, totally just a cropped version of the image you linked.
Man, you must be terrible at that thing in the newspaper where you have to identify all the differences between two similar pictures.

I honestly hope they keep it in the live version. Although I do think they could make it a little more Epic. I mean come on if your gonna turn the dial up to 11 you surely could push it into overload by giving the Undead a companion pet. ;)

The game is loaded with characters with names just to be funny. I mean come on we have Harrison Jones in Zul Aman, Harris Pilton, etc.
I play WoW for fun, and for me, I will be doing what ever quests I have to in order to get out there to see that for the first time. Just because it is so over the top silly it is full of Win.
