With Cataclysm slowly approaching, now's a good time to take another look at this worgen masterpiece by Gnomechewer. Gilnean Like Me tells the story of the Gilnean people against the backdrop of the Forsaken invasion. As a group of undead sets foot in town to follow up after a brutal bombardment, the group discovers the terrible curse that has been levied on Greymane's people.
This video is probably one of the most beautiful and stunning portrayals of Gilneas and its wolven fate. I like the sense of horror and stoic resolve portrayed by the narration, as well as the dark sense of inevitability. The moment when the protagonist "wolfs out" is incredibly satisfying; it's a suitable crescendo to the story's build-up. That kind of execution is rare, and my hat is off to Gnomechewer. All of his stuff is superb. He has a great grasp and interesting take on the lore of the game. His music choices are always amazing. And his style is incomparable.
I have to wonder if he'll do a "Gilnean Like Me, Version 2.0" with the Cataclysm Worgen models. Not that he'd need to, as it's awesome as is, but it'd be interesting.
I'm pretty sure this video has already been featured here on wow.com, since it was how I discovered TV on the Radio. It's good enough to see it again, of course. x)
Wow! From the very few seconds I loved the song and the video was very nicely done. Forgive me If I have been under a rock, but who is the song by? I would very much like to DL it or purchase their CD. I would also watch the video again and again. It made me want to roll my newest toon (Worgen Druid) right now!
bloody brilliant...the music was a great pairing, the turn of the century/Victorian/gothic horror film style and the way he broke the shots up into separate frames were really creative, and the story really got you involved. like mr. gray, i love how the Gilneans' resolve was portrayed, and thought the overconfident Forsaken were hilarious in their "oh shit!" moment! overall execution was just plain awesome...i hope we see more like this from Gnomechewer ;D!

This is one of my favorite videos. It is what really got me into the lore of Warcraft.

The video's effects were too much. It's like rasterbation all over again.

Great video! It has all of the elements of a fantastic tale. WoW lore, great music, excellent story line, phenomenal execution and effects.
This is one of the best machinima I've seen.

TV on the Radio, album Return to Cookie Mountain.
Great indie rock band out of brooklyn, this is one of the best tunes of theirs to use to get into the rest of their stuff.
Really like this band, so I'm glad this song's paired with a great video as well; expose more people to them :)
slartibart Aug 31st 2010 2:34PM
Oh sorry, it's pretty obvious if you look at the tracks on the album, but the song itself is "wolf like me"
Andromyda Aug 31st 2010 2:38PM
Song is "Wolf Like Me" by TV On The Radio.

Loved it. The film effects get to be a little too glitzy at the end, but aside from that? Fantastic.
Didnt want to play a worgen, Aug 31st 2010 2:54PM
but because of this video...
I am going to...

Worgen have always looked awesome to me, but honestly I was pretty ambivalent towards making one when Cata released.
This video makes me want a worgen so bad I may just try to roll one from the start of Cata.
