I've thought that Skada only starts gathering when you yourself are in combat while Recount does it regardless of you being in combat or not. Is this true? And I'm glad that the values are the same because I've had some people complain that Skada doesn't give as high numbers to some people, but I keep telling people it's only to compare DPS and improve, not for e-peen contests.

I think it also has to do with when you die, although I'm not sure. People say that Skada calculates your DPS over the entire fight (effective DPS), whereas Recount calculates your DPS until you die (personal DPS). But either way the damage done should be about the same.In addition to graphs, Recount has raid/party syncing, and in addition to absorption, Skada has threat meter, multiple windows, and window swapping based on combat.

That is true. Skada does not record anything unless you are in combat. The differing numbers are mostly due to this -- I have compared with both mods running, and Skada omits the damage from whatever my opener is. Consequently, Skada stops recording if you leave combat -- so a mechanic like a rogue's Vanish results in two or more "fights" being recorded. If you're just tracking personal DPS, Skada is accurate enough. But if you're a raid leader trying to analyze raid performance, Recount is your only option.

If you're a raid-leader you should be using World of Logs. Recount and Skada are "What's going on right now"-addons.

I'll try World of Logs if I can for my raids, but I still prefer Skada...it's not as memory hungry as Recount, and I generally only look at it for my own purposes. As for the comment on Vanish...Vanish's main function isn't bring you out of combat. It only does so if you effectively dropped aggro with it. Some bosses, or in PvP, you'll still be in combat after stealthing, even without AoE damage. Shadowmeld is even more finicky for this, as it's not 'improved stealth'.

Skara's recording (default) range is much smaller than recount's as well. This is quite noticeable in the dreamwalker fight. Recount will detect all the healing done and most of the damage, but not all since some will still be out of range if you tank the mobs at both ends. Skada misses doesn't detect large enough range for that fight, but others it is usually enough. I noticed this when looking at heal meters where Skada missed like 3+ mil healing done by one of the pallies since he was out of my range for that.I think you can change the range on both somehow.
