The Daily Quest: Gimmie gimmie gimmie

Here at WoW.com, we're on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
Who likes contests? Everyone likes contests -- heck, it's a chance at free goodies. Even if you don't win, you aren't really out anything. Here are some pointers to various WoW-related contests that are currently running here and there:
- Would you like to be in the Cataclysm beta? NowGamer is giving away a staggering 1,000 Cataclysm beta keys. Check out the site for details -- and I hope you like Twitter.
- Attending BlizzCon in the flesh? You can get free passes to the pre-screening of The Raid, a Blue Loon film about the world of raiding and what it means to be a raider. There are a whole slew of people in the WoW community giving away passes to this event; you can check the full list of giveaway sites on The Raid's official site.

For the NowGamers contest, why exactly do they need our address, phone number and such? I would love to enter the contest, but I'm hesitant to give out that info, especially to a site I've never really heard of.
Zerounit Sep 2nd 2010 9:27PM
I was on that site and my exact exclamation was "I'm not giving you my -address-! Are you HIGH?"
wutsconflag Sep 2nd 2010 9:35PM
Right?
Name and email, sure. Phone number? Physical address? Er, why exactly?
Elfbane Sep 2nd 2010 9:47PM
I'm wondering if its because you need to be a UK citizen to join...
It says nothing specific in the terms and conditions, but that little caveat of the contest following all English laws makes me wonder if we're even allowed to join.

Deathy? O.o
Lets go with "Murloc: The Chin™" instead.

Diablospot's contest page is broken, and I can't tell if NowGamers even wants US people entering since that's a UK site.
Anne Stickney Sep 2nd 2010 9:47PM
Doesn't matter if you aren't in the UK - I know a few people in the US that have won already.
RetPallyJil Sep 2nd 2010 9:53PM
Yeah, but the site doesn't work, either. I'm on my 33rd 404 page :(
Anne Stickney Sep 2nd 2010 9:54PM
I pulled the Diablospot link, as it appears they pulled the contest.
fendrel Sep 2nd 2010 11:02PM
It seems the nowgamer contest is not working. I keep getting a 404 error everytime I submit my entry.
Anne Stickney Sep 2nd 2010 11:06PM
Keep trying - it's working just fine for me!
Bluemain Sep 2nd 2010 11:16PM
Still trying but It just keeps coming up with internal server error (500)
bit bizzare

Just read thru the comments on there website(the contest runners), and apparantly the blank screen after enrty is affecting the majority of people trying to enter, however many comments on the site seem to suggest, that your information has still gone through and some say they have won, allthoguh i dont know if this infact true, i do hope this is the case.
lishuss Sep 2nd 2010 11:35PM
yeah no thanks. i dont like giving out my contact info to things, no matter how awesome it night be to win. especially since today i got my first(through 8th) email from 'blizzard' letting me know i'm in the beta, all i need to do is click on some link thats in what looks like a mixture of german and cherokee
RetPallyJil Sep 3rd 2010 6:42AM
Good. Don't enter. There's one more chance that I'll win ;D
Al Sep 3rd 2010 1:10AM
Yeah, between the personal information requirement and the T & C refusing to show up, I think I'll avoid it.
7Seti Sep 3rd 2010 7:36AM
Got the conditions link to work. Among the usual legal-ese:
"By entering this competition, you agree to receive NowGamer communications, including the NowGamer newsletter."
Nothing to suggest why they want phone numbers and physical addresses, though.
7Seti Sep 3rd 2010 1:35AM
How did an obscure site that's not listed on Blizzard's fansite page get a thousand beta keys? Even Wowhead etc. only got fifty. And they want your phone number and address? This sounds dodgy.
Koj Sep 3rd 2010 12:29PM
I would agree with the previous statements about NowGamer's contest.
1) How did they manage to get 1000 beta keys
2) Why do they need so much personal information.
Even if everything is on the up-and-up, I'm not comfortable with sharing that much personal information with a site I've never even heard of before.
Orphoeus Sep 3rd 2010 4:25AM
Yeah no way am I giving this out for someone I've never really heard of. I almost got to the end of the form and realized I was about to give more info to these people than I would the grocery store for a frequent shopper card...
Nah...bloody brits can snog their beta keys by their onesies, thanks.
