Some days are better than others. Other days are worse. Some days, you just want a palate cleansing. I'm in that kind of mood today. That makes today a great day to look back and revisit Yume's musical video, Polystyrene Dream.
The ethereal view still appeals to me, with the various and surreal imagery and wonderfully cadenced music. But then the jarring behavior of the characters is still just a little odd. Probably, no one knows what's really going on except Yume, but I still enjoy the trip into absurdity. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
RoseClown, You do try so very hard. I am amused by your proposition but sadly I do not share this logic of yours. I highly doubt that most of these people hate blood elves because of some deep storyline reason. That is just absurd. Unless you find that hatred of a work of art on the sole premise of it having a blood elf normal, well then I feel sad for you.
Actually, I really do hate Blood Elves for deep storyline reasons as well as all the surfacy, hateful, arrogant ones. :) Their laugh alone makes me want to puncture my own ear-drums with chopsticks that were used to scratch the backside of a Tauren.
I also don't understand the obsession people have with using their models to tell a story.
All that being said I'm agreeing the first statement. Overall, this was a very interesting vid. and the music choice was a VERY nice change of pace.
They have been starring great music for quite some time now. However, Michael Gray tries not to cater to just one genre or one person's liking. Kinda like how there is DJ's that absolutely hate the song they are playing but still do because there are people that like it. Its a selfless approach. The more you know. =]
I did enjoy this video, big props to the creator. Also, I love the song choice. =]
Watch it reading the lyrics. This is brilliantly done:
Her green plastic watering can For her fake Chinese rubber plant In the fake plastic earth That she bought from a rubber man In a town full of rubber plans To get rid of itself It wears her out, it wears her out It wears her out, it wears her out
She lives with a broken man A cracked polystyrene man Who just crumbles and burns He used to do surgery For girls in the eighties But gravity always wins And it wears him out, it wears him out It wears him out, it wears...
She looks like the real thing She tastes like the real thing My fake plastic love But I can't help the feeling I could blow through the ceiling If I just turn and run And it wears me out, it wears me out It wears me out, it wears me out
If I could be who you wanted If I could be who you wanted All the time, all the time

Symbols all:
green plastic watering can = sword fake chinese rubber plant = dragon
The female blood elf was killing classic outdoor bosses from Classic WoW, the male was killing the bosses from the instances of vanilla wow, ending with KT. After he killed everything, he looks over to see the bosses of TBC.
You could interpret the video as you want, I just may be looking into it a little too much, but it seems to be the end of a story line, the end of a character. When your character has done all it can and you think it's finally over, BAM, there are more bad guys to kill, more things to do, more people to see.
Maybe the video in a response to how people complained that their hard work in Vanilla WoW was going to be wasted time thanks to TBC, but I don't know when it was made or how long it's been out.
It's a commentary on how World of Warcraft has become nothing more than an epic quest to get better gear. There is an entire world out there with expansive storylines for people to discover, but it seems as if the core message of the game "go adventuring," has been replaced with "go get the next tier set so you can beat up more bosses and get THEIR gear."
I can't remmber the name of it (hopefully someone else will) but it reminds me heavily of a video featured on moviewatch a while back of 2 Nelfs that leveled together, broke up over loot, then eventually realizing friendship was more important than gear and zooming around together through shatrath and terrokar. Very surreal video and music.
SImilar here, very surreal feel to 2 characters thinking gear is more important (I'm assuming) then coming together despite it. Whole thing seamed to be an analogy for leveling and gearing up (they keep discarding weapons to grab new ones off the monster they slay) only to come together despite not having such epic items, and becoming as powerful as they dreamed becuase of that bond.
Honestly, I'm tired of all the music videos people do for machinima and the lack of more plot driven movies but this one was very well done, it went above and beyond the standard music video and I was very impressed.
Maybe it's because I am pms'ing, or maybe it's just the poignentcy (sp?) of Radiohead's music combined with the beautiful imagery, but I got all teary eyed and choked up towards the end of the video. Like I wanted to curl up in a ball and sob for something I'd lost before I was able to appreciate it's full value. I managed to nip the emotion in the bud, but i'm TOTALLY bookmarking this for the next time I need a good cry. As crazy as that sounds, that's high praise! I had NO idea what this video was "about", but it just didn't seem to matter, I was entranced.

That was so beautiful it got me kind of choked up. (and I really hate blood elves too). What a nice video. :)

I find people's hatred of pixels very amusing.

I find people who think hating something made-up is amusing, amusing.
Unless said person has never hated, loved, or had any emotional attachment to any kind of character in any novel or work of fiction ever.
Then I find it just sad.

Wait, first the Beatles, now Radiohead? When did WoW Moviewatch start starring machinima with actually good music instead of rap/pop?
A welcome change :)
Nice vid too.

.... What a load of sh*t

Production-wise well done but I agree with Mr Gray, story-wise... what the?
Supposedly this was a dream of the characters? Still seemed pretty weird.

What's so hard to understand? Everyone dreams of being a hero.

Was that Lord of the Rings or something? All they did was walk in that machinima?

It seems to me that it was about staying together.
Even broken people can still stay together and it will be okay.
I got teary at the end of it too.

First thing i thought of when i saw the title was Radiohead :o
(i may or may not have thought of b-side Polyethylene)
Nice vid, randomn acts of randomness, pretty lights and lots of running around in slo-mo, most music videos don't do better anyway.
