Call for Submissions: Confessions of a noob

This week, we're continuing the tradition with a new call for submissions about alts. Have you recently rerolled on a new-to-you class? Show us the other side of life as part of our "Confessions of a Noob: Class X" series, written especially by experienced players who are leveling a new class for the first time. Show us what you're learning about your new class. What has surprised you? Is there something about your class that you're having one dickens of a time remembering? How is your role in groups different? Have you gained a new appreciation for your new class -- or others?
We're not looking for narratives telling the story of what your character did while leveling. Instead, we're looking for opinions, comparisons and observations about the process of playing a class that may be very different from the one you're most used to. What are the facets of your new class that make playing this new character a compelling, enjoyable experience? Your title should clearly reflect the class of your new alt (for example, "Confessions of a Noob: Paladin"). Don't forget to provide perspective by explaining what class and spec you're most used to playing.
Submissions should run between 750 and 1,000 words. We will not accept articles submitted under player names or pen names; please use your full, real name and email. Please include your email address again at the bottom of your article in the body of your submission. Links should be included as full URLs in the body of the copy; no active links, please. Artwork is not mandatory, but any you choose to include must be work of your own or from Creative Commons.
Unfortunately, the Seed program currently only accommodates submissions from individuals living in the United States. WoW.com is not accepting submissions outside of the Seed service. We hope that international submissions will be available in the future; check Seed.com for updates.
To submit an article, read up about our guest post program, then sign up for Seed. WoW.com articles are not listed among Seed's open category listings; click here to view the assignment and submit your article. (You won't be able to see it unless you have a Seed account.) We'll accept submissions for this assignment until 12:00 midnight EDT on Fri., Sept. 10. If you have further questions about this assignment, drop us a line at seed@wow.com. Good luck and good writing!

As the worst hunter in the world, I may have to give this one a shot...

As a noob hunter, how many times have you disengaged off a cliff? Just curious if everyone has probs with that, or just my dumbass

"As the worst hunter in the world, I may have to give this one a shot..."
hunter... shot /groan
Is there any chance of a "Best of (cutaia)" post?

Oh, and I did a lot of leveling on my hunter in AB during the AB weekend last week and I can't count the number of times I saw LM start fading into the distance after a poorly aimed Disengage. The worst part is you get several seconds to contemplate just how stupid you just were.

As an experienced hunter with noobish moments, it took me until a few weeks ago to realise that I could use disengage to save myself after falling off a cliff, assuming I was in combat. :)

In before claims of massive racisim on behalf of WOW.com for only accepting American writers. Geez guys, other people exist outside of the US, blah blah blah. WOW.com is at the mercy of AOL, and they still have no control over what AOL accepts and doesn't accept. Thanks for caring

Sad but true.
Alas, my troll mage's observations remain unobservationy.

Meh. I've twisted this to mean that, as Europeans, we can't enter this because none of us ever made a mistake. I can dream.

Us fine European gentlemen don't make mistakes.

After nearly six years of retting about Azeroth, I don't think I've ever - ever - remembered to Kick a spellcaster when I mess around with a rogue.
Totally alien function ... though now it looks like Cata will finally give me an interrupt of my very own!

When I first started playing a melee class after only playing clothies, I assumed everyone needed 17% hit.

I probably don't have enough anecdotes to want to submit an article but from my experience leveling alts these last few weeks I've noticed the following:
I always forget to windfury and flametongue my shammys weapons, probably because my main is a hunter who never worries about self-buffing beyond making sure dragonhawk is on.
as a druid healer who hangs back away from the group, my first instinct when a mob is getting too close is to look for the button on my action bar where my hunter has her wing clip. every. single. time. where I have wing clip is nowhere near where I keep my druid's barkskin and now I'm thinking the only solution is to move barkskin but I just know I'll have that second pause where I'm confused about what spell I'm looking at.

Hehe, I do that kind of thing all the time. I try to put things that are "simmilar" ,like attacks or defensive things etc., in the same spots on different classes. That said, I can't tell you how many times I've tried to Life Tap on my paladin...

I'd love to take part in some of your Calls for Submissions, but I'm running into the RealID problem - google hits. I may have to look for work soon, and it's probably a bad idea to let prospective employers find my very unique name associated with WoW.

Back to the topic of the article, my daughter will tell you of my screams of, "Blink, blink, why can't I BLINK???" while madly pressing F1.

Confessions of a Noob DK Tank-
I've tanked all of BC on a Warrior. Most of WOTLK on a Pally. Now I have a Frost DK Tank that dinged last week. (Literally - check out Hertrino on Uther-A)
Why? Why must I tank? (And is it really a good idea to level my Druid as a bear?)

On my first druid, when mounts were still 30g for normal training, I trained skinning and mining and vended everything I farmed to get the 30g. I didn't know about the AH and hadn't thought to sell anything to players. So I farmed and vended for weeks.
Janaan Sep 3rd 2010 12:49PM
I did that too! I can't remember how many greens, pieces of cloth, or health pots dropped that I just vendored when I could've made some real gold from them. Then when I DID find the AH, I promptly bought myself some gear upgrades cause the stats looked really nice. Little did I know that I'd replace them in an hour of playtime.

@Brownb
Experienced hunter. Netherstorm. Etherem Staging Grounds. Opening one of the prisons and it's a boss mob. Send in pet. Disengage. Oops.
You're not a hunter if you haven't Disengaged off something high.

Tried leveling a DK tank after playing nothing but caster clothies or healers. Horn of Winter is probably my biggest failing there.
2-minute buffs are the worst design ever!
