The latest patch to the
Cataclysm beta has finally added in the revamped glyph UI, sporting the newly implemented Prime Glyphs, a selection window and awesome new convenience features. The new interface has a search box for quickly finding glyphs, expanding categories of prime, major and minor glyphs, and it even shows you what glyphs you have not yet learned.
Personally, I think that the new glyph interface is one of the coolest
Cataclysm revamps. The old system of glyphs was an awesome first step, but it has been refined and polished in ways we never could have expected. Check out the gallery of shots below to see what the glyph UI looks like while empty, sporting some glyphs and using the search feature.

Will our existing glyphs be wiped out by Cataclysm, forcing us to re-buy and re-install the ones we have? Have your copied characters made it to beta with any of their preexisting glyphs intact?

The glyphs you already have (that haven't been completely done away with) still transfer over. Granted, i'm playing a DK and they haven't finished the DK glyphs yet.

If it still exists, you'll know it. I don't know if it'll be this way on live, but some glyphs seem to have the same item number but affect different spells. For instance, I'm an Arcane/ Frost Mage but somehow ended up with the glyph of Dragon's Breath already known. Also, they really should wipe our installed glyphs as I have currently the glyph of Arcane Blast in both a Major and Prime slot.

This was answered a few times
1. No
2. Some will change or be gone completely
3. It won't matter anyways since you will buy them all anyways for situational fights if you min max

For vanity glyphs like the altered Ghost Wolf form, do you have to choose between a functional lesser glyph in order to have that, or are vanity glyphs in their own slots? Mainly I just wouldn't like having to 'sacrifice' a useful glyph in order to put something purely aesthetic in.
Eternauta Sep 3rd 2010 2:15PM
All minor glyphs are convenience/vanity/cosmetic stuff. You won't have to sacrifice anything important to use them, since all important glyphs are either major or prime.

Since all glyphs are going to be able to be swapped at anytime once you learn them I doubt it's going to be a hassle to have connivence glyphs you like outside of raid and then switch to others more raid worthy (ex: swapping ur ghost wolf glyph for the one that removes the akih reagent.)

While I have some classes where the third minor glyph is very useless, my shaman is the only one I want more. The water orb is actually useful for performance. Then there are three save reagents and another interesting one before this. Shamans being blesssed with minors is going to make this a bit hard. Is it worth giving up a bag slot to always keep walking on water reagents for this?

You guys seem to know about some of the glyphs there are, is there a list of them somewhere of the ones so far i'm curious about this altered ghost wolf.
Eternauta Sep 3rd 2010 5:38PM
The Artic Ghost Wolf glyph was mentioned in a blue post and there's a screenshot in MMO-Champion. (It's the same old ghost wolf, just white).

Annnnnnnnnd a bunch of complaints about the new glyph system from scribes in 3... 2... 1...

I WANT MY MOMMY!!!
Srsly though, I like this change all in all. My only concern is for leveling scribes who will have a harder time selling the glyphs they use to level up. But my baby scribe has that problem already, so I guess it is a lateral change.
Artificial Sep 3rd 2010 5:25PM
lol... you couldn't wait, eh? Of course not. The number of people predicting enraged scribes outnumbers the number of actual enraged scribes by a wide margin. It's not that scribes are less likely to be crybabies than enchanters (although I do note that the *only* complaint posted so far comes from an enchanter who switched to inscription), it's just that, frankly, the inscription market has been more trouble than it's worth for far too long for most scribes to care. It's not like you can actually make money with inscription now, unless you camp the auction house rather than just post some glyphs and then actually go play the game. The end result being, for every one scribe that actually makes any money of the profession, there are 999 scribes who are delighted at the changes and how it will make using glyphs easier, and reduce the amount of effort they need to put into outfitting all their friends, guildies, and alts with glyphs.

WHERE MY MTHRFKIN PROFT GO, GUISE?!
Really, the pattern restoration skill for Scribes looks nice... hopefully they will scale with loot on the server and performing the skill in patch 4.3 will reward players with 4.3 patterns and not just 'another' Naxx-level pattern.
Also, with scrolls being better and filling the role of elixirs (damn this homogenisation lól), I'm sure you'll hear more complaints from (Elix-Master) Alchemists! Even so, I love the new interface and hope that the one-of-every-glyph in my bank will save my character some money at launch.

You make fun, but with me, the order was this:
-- I finish leveling enchanting to make money, then Blizzard immediately pulls the "you can enchant roll now" thing.
-- I level inscription, and have used it for my income. Now, they pull the same thing and kill almost all inscription profit.
I wish I could see the future and be able to tell if they're going to do this with the next profession I try to make money with.
Artificial Sep 3rd 2010 5:34PM
@catharsis80: Mining, herbalism, skinning, doing quests, killing random mobs. There, five things guaranteed to make you more money than any crafting profession assuming you put some time into it. :p
Every once in a while, from time to time for various reasons, there's some way to make a lot of money with not nearly as much effort. These methods last for a time, but are all eventually overdone and destroyed by economics, or nerfed out of existence by Blizzard. If you're looking for a profession that will give you this and guarantee it forever into the future, you're on a wild goose chase. If the players themselves don't wipe out such imbalances, Blizzard will sooner or later.
Mugutu Sep 3rd 2010 2:26PM
Don't you know? They're called inscriptionists!
Tushar Bharadia Sep 3rd 2010 2:45PM
I prefer Inscriptionators.
Marty Sep 3rd 2010 3:06PM
Inscribblers, thank you very much.
feniks9174 Sep 3rd 2010 3:27PM
I've actually seen them called "Inscribaters"
