The Daily Quest: Accessorizing

Here at WoW.com, we're on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I have far too many armor sets. In fact, I have mostly completed every armor set except for tier 3, which is no longer obtainable because it existed in the original 40-man Naxxramas instance. I even have the Postmaster's Set -- don't ask how long it took to farm. Needless to say, fashionable accessories are all kinds of fun, and today we've got some links from around the blogosphere about accessories, both virtual and otherwise:
- Like that shirt pictured above? We do, too -- it's from Lee Bretschneider of Adventuring Company, and you can preorder it at his store.
- Letters From Birdfall has a nice list of upcoming Cataclysm accessories.
- Would you like a pirate hat? Daughter of Ravenholdt Manor has a nice post about making friends with the Bloodsail.

I'd love it if Blizzard would cater a little to those of us who enjoy outfits and such.
For example:
- have a separate unending (or huge) bag for clothing
- allow you to use dyes to color/tint pieces of gear
- maybe allow characters, once they have a piece of "set" gear, to always be able to change the look of a piece to look like one of the previously acquired pieces, either for free (ala lotro outfit tabs) or for a fee.

Another cool thing they could do is to let us have a seprate char screen where we put on our RP (or whatever you wish) outfits and we can swithc between them Like the worgen>Human form kinda thing

You can make a pretty good pirate outfit with the following which looks pretty terrific on my blood elf female...
Swashbuckler's Eyepatch of Defense
White Swashbuckler's Shirt
Prospector's Chestpiece (leather) Perfect solid black vest !
Tuxedo Pants (nice and dark black)
Buccaneer's Boots of the Falcon
and you have to carry around a torch or lantern such as
Lantern of Enchanted Flame.

On another matter I made a post comparing the different tank classes. See if you agree with me that warriors is the most interesting class to tank with;

All pieces of the same armor set should take up the same slot in the bank. Like a .zip file or something.

Gnolls are cute and cuddly, and the stories of wanton looting and pillaging are just rumors. Open your gates to your local Gnoll tribe now!*

Anne,
Thanks for the great post. As a newer WoW player I have always gazed in admiration at some of the classic armor sets, however, I have always felt that they were unattainable. You mentioned that Tier 3 is not longer attainable because the original Nax raid is no longer active. Are the other sets still attainable?
PLEASE - would someone on the wow.com staff write up a guide on attaining some of these old sets? What to run, what rep to grind (and how to best grind it), with a difficulty rating on how hard each set is to get. Such a series of articles would be fascinating and really helpful for some of us newer players.

Most of the Sets are drops from (raid)dungeons. A little summary to point you in the right direction:
Tier 0 (aka dungeonset 1): Stratholme, Scholomance, Upper and Lower Blackrock Spire (though bracers, belts and gloves are boe, so you can get them in the AH. T0 sets have no class requirement, but there is one for each class nevertheless.)
Tier 0,5 (aka dungeonset 2): Upgraded Tier 0 which is attained via quests (one quest for each piece, varying in difficulty. You can only upgrade your classes set.)
Tier 1: Molten Core (belts and bracers are boe)
Tier 2: Blackwing Lair (except the pants, which drop from Ragnaros, last boss in MC)
Tier 3: Old Naxxramas, therefore sadly gone. :( The T7 pieces share the model with the original T3, with a different color scheme (one for 10man and one for 25man).
AQ Set: A three-piece set consisting of weapon, cloak and ring. To get it you first have to loot class specific tokens in AQ20 (Ruins of Ahn'Quiraj) and then trade them for the items - to get the whole set it is also required to be exalted with Brood of Nozdormu.
Dungeonset 3: Lootable from the endbosses of various Outland heroic dungeons. Which ones depends on your class.
Tier 4: Tokens for T4 are lootable in Karazhan, Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Chamber (Outland raid dungeons)
Tier 5: Tokens lootable in Serpent Shrine Cavern and Tempest Keep - The Eye
Tier 6: Tokens lootable in Old Mount Hyjal (Caverns of Time), Black Temple and Sunwell Plateau

I need that shirt in the way people need a zulian tiger mount.
serious win on so many levels unrelated to WoW.

@ daniel
There are 6 'tier' sets in 1-60 vanilla content that are still obtainable.
Dungeon set 0 are blues and not class-fixed pieces, meaning anyone can wear them if you have the proficiency to wear that item type. They drop in Strath, Ubrs, Lbrs, and Scholo (head pieces), and can be upgraded through quests to tier 0.5 (aka tier 'casual'), a 60 epic quality set. The bracers, belt, and gloves are BOE drops.
Tier 1 is Molten Core(8pc), tier 1.5 is Zul'gurub (5pc), Tier 2 is Blackwing Lair(8pc), & Tier 2.5 is AQ 40. There is an additional 3 piece Cenarion Circle set from AQ-20 that falls somewhere between Tier 2 & 2.5. Tier 0, 1, & 2 are from random boss loot, and the ZG, AQ-20, & AQ-40 are random boss loot + reputation.
The problem with collecting old tier loot is the fact that they are based on random drops, meanign you could go back week after week and never get what you're looking for. For example I raided Ragnaros for almost 7 months in vanilla before I managed to get my tier 2 dragonstalker legs on my hunter. And while considerably easier at 80, for instances above MC/ZG, you will likely need to bring friends. Like for example The Twin Emperors fight is impossible to solo due to the mechanics of the encounter.
tier 0 - 1.5 is easily soloable/duoable. everythign else requires a little assistance. The big challenge, truthfully is finding people who're willing to run the instances with you, honestly.
happy hunting!
