When my wife and I first saw The DeviceHas Been Modified by Baron Soosdon, all I could think at the time was, "If only these powers could be harnessed for good." The imagery, action and content of Soosdon's epic video was so compelling that dozens of backstories instantly came to mind. It was an inspirational video, and it doesn't seem an iota dated even now.
While the original song is by JoCo for the video game Portal, the Baroon took that source material and made it something incredibly new. (For the sake of story, however, the good Baron does link this Gnomeregan with Aperture Science.) I think it fits the twisted remains of gnomish technology better than any kind of freaky cube, anyway. The Device Has Been Modified is one of my favorite machinima, and I think it's definitely worth another look. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
I'm rather unsure of why Jonathan Coulton is being references? I mean, the song in this video was remixed by Victims of Science. Very little, if any, of Still Alive appears here!
I was just about to post the same thing! The vast majority of the singing in the song are autotuned voice overs from the game. I'm not even sure if one word from Still alive is in this song, and I've listened to both songs a lot over the past two or three of years.
So it is very misinforming to say: "While the original song is by JoCo for the video game Portal, the Baroon took that source material and made it something incredibly new."
Because that is not the case at all.
Sorry for the little rant but I just want the facts to be presented properly. Even if it's just a Moviewatch post.
I, like the next geek girl, love JoCo...but this is NOT "Still Alive." There are three songs used in this Machinima, the main one being "The Device Has Been Modified" by Victims of Science that add a beat track to the game files for Portal.
This and his Flyleaf video are some of his greatest work. It may not be as polished as his new stuff, but, the rawness and musical choices are what make the experience so visceral. This video should win more awards.

Hell yea Rakah, Blind was freaking epic and I have seen few as good as it. World of Gnomecraft 2 is also pretty awesome.

I love this video and am so glad Baron Soodoon released a hi-def version of it. I can hardly wait to see what he creates next.

The Soosdon is always creative, strange and awesomesauce. :D This video is even more haunting and beautiful in this HD version. I love it.
My hat's off to Baron! :)
