Win a trip to BlizzCon from the official WoW magazine
If you are one of the many people who were unable to get tickets to BlizzCon or just couldn't afford to go, the World of Warcraft Official Magazine is giving away two tickets, airfare and a hotel stay for the event. Andy Salisbury, an editor at the magazine, had this to say about the contest:
No purchase is necessary to enter, but there are rules and restrictions just like with any contest. Good luck!I know as well as anyone that getting a ticket to BlizzCon is difficult. Having sat in the ticket queue with six browsers open across two computers I understand that they can go fast, and despite your best efforts you'll be left peeking in through the Anaheim Convention Center's windows.
However, today those of us with the World of Warcraft Official Magazine are announcing a contest which will allow you to get your very own pair of BlizzCon tickets (with your room and airfare paid for) on us. In order to find out more, either crank up your World of Warcraft launcher, or head on over to our website at www.worldofwarcraftthemagazine.com.

"Subscribe to the magazine to enter a contest to win two tickets"
"No purchase necessary"
You have to subscribe to enter the contest. That's a purchase. They need to rework the site.

I didn't say you HAD to subscribe to enter. The front page of the web page says you enter by subscribing, then below that no purchase necessary.
I said the page needs to be updated. You know, putting the "alternative entry" method on it, instead of making it look like you can enter no other way.
Honoke says there is a small link at the bottom. It must be damn small, I missed it. As always the non-purchase entries are always tiny, but this one must have been so tiny even I missed it, and I was looking for it.

Actually, I did say "you had to subscribe to enter the contest", but I meant from what the website described.
The website should be updated to make it more clear you don't, is what I meant. Not the tiny little link at the bottom.

Why would they rework it? They *want* you to subscribe.
As long as the meet the requirements of "No Purchase Necessary" on all technicalities, then they're fine and their marketing technique of trying to get you to subscribe to enter is working just fine.

Before people start going 'Oh em gee they lie you have to buy this is fraud!'
Scroll to the bottom. Enter without subscribing. Its a button link.
Congradulations for over reacting and not properly checking into things.

You don't get to see the "Enter without subscribing" button unless you click the "Full contest Rules" button then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. The 2 previous pages do NOT indicate that you CAN enter without subscribing. It's like those bags of chips that had a contest, no purchase necessary, details inside printed on them. WTF, how do I see the details inside without purchase? I guess you could STEAL the chips to enter or find out the details, but who wants to get caught stealing chips to enter a stupid contest?
Drakkenfyre Sep 8th 2010 10:14PM
Amo, I am not overreacting. I know there is an alternative entry buried in the rules. My point being is that the website leads you to believe that you HAVE to subscribe to enter first. Then underneath that says "No purchase necessary." Without telling you how, unless you check the rules.
My post isn't "THEY LIED THEY NEED YOU TO PAY FOR IT TO TO ENTER!", it's "They should make it a little more clearer."

They made it as clear as legally necessary while still attempting to boost sales via a contest. What they should do is not what they're going to do unless you decide to campaign for contest rule law reform.

Silly you. Reading is hard :(
Honoke Sep 8th 2010 8:35PM
There is a small "Enter without subscribing" button at the very bottom.
Ge68 Sep 8th 2010 8:40PM
I've already subscribed back when it launched, yet I can't enter the competition / draw?
elvendude Sep 8th 2010 8:57PM
Just hit the "enter without subscribing" link referenced above.

I'm extremely glad that they gave a specific date to which they said they would announce a winner so that no one has to religiously check their mailbox after a week or two.
Natsumi Sep 8th 2010 10:04PM
Makes things easier on us neurotic folks that REALLY wanted to go to Blizzcon. ;)

Woeth to me,
for I am the non-american,
they taketh my spirit from me,
for I lost before I had hope.
Rakah Sep 9th 2010 12:05PM
you don't need to be from the US it's just the company name that makes it confusing.
Darky Sep 9th 2010 6:08PM
paraphrasing here but "you must be a resident of the 50 states or canada (uk,alaska, blahblahblah are not included)"
Robin Torres Sep 9th 2010 6:15PM
There is a huge difference in punctuation. Have some copypasta:
Contest is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, excluding Arizona, Rhode Island, Guam, Puerto Rico, and United States territories; Canada excluding the province of Quebec; the United Kingdom; France; Germany; and Spain.
The semicolons indicate the countries that ARE eligible. So if you live in the UK, France, Germany or Spain you are eligible.
