Armor Set Collecting: Dungeon Set One

The first of these sets is the Dungeon Set One. Obtained through various level 60 instances, these blue armor sets were the top of the top before the days of Molten Core and purples everywhere. Originally, these sets had very boring graphics, until a patch was implemented in which all sets got a shiny new graphics update. In the early days of vanilla, these sets were pretty much all players needed to farm for, and the +8 to all resistances that served as a set bonus for each was handy in places like Molten Core, which was nothing but a fun fire factory in which you wanted to stack as much fire resistance as possible. There are nine sets to collect, and each set is class-specific. All set pieces can be found in Stratholme, Scholomance and Blackrock Spire (both lower and upper).

The Dreamist Raiment set is for warlocks. The most difficult piece to obtain in vanilla was probably the Dreadmist Mantle. Jandice Barov was a pain to clear to and a pain to kill in the early days, largely due to her annoying habit of splitting into a million clones. These days, she's pretty easy to knock over solo at level 80.
- Dreadmist Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Scholomance and Stratholme.
- Dreadmist Bracers These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Dreadmist Leggings These drop from Baron Rivendare in the undead side of Stratholme.
- Dreadmist Mantle These drop from Jandice Barov in Scholomance.
- Dreadmist Robe This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Dreadmist Sandals These drop from Baroness Anastari in undead Stratholme.
- Dreadmist Mask This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Dreadmist Wraps These BoE gloves drop from Lorekeeper Polkelt in Scholomance.

The Valor set is primarily found in Stratholme, but other pieces can be found in other areas. In vanilla, probably the most difficult piece of this set to obtain was the boots, because they dropped from a boss that was pretty optional unless people were on the quest to kill him.
- Belt of Valor This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in the undead side of Stratholme.
- Boots of Valor These boots are dropped by Kirtonos the Herald in Scholomance.
- Bracers of Valor These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Breastplate of Valor This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Gauntlets of Valor These BoE gloves drop from Ramstein the Gorger in the undead side of Stratholme.
- Helm of Valor This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Legplates of Valor These drop from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Spaulders of Valor These drop from Rend Blackhand in Upper Blackrock Spire.

The Beaststalker set was the first in a long set of "stalker" armor for hunters. The hardest piece for hunters to obtain was usually the gloves, because War Master Voone was located in a fairly out-of-the-way area in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Beaststalker's Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Beaststalker's Boots These drop from Nerub'enkan in the undead side of Stratholme.
- Beaststalker's Bindings These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in both the live and undead sides of Stratholme.
- Beaststalker's Cap This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Beaststalker's Tunic This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Beaststalker's Pants These drop from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Beaststalker's Mantle This drops off of Overlord Wrymthalak in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Beaststalker's Gloves These BoE gloves drop from War Master Voone in Lower Blackrock Spire.

Prior to The Burning Crusade, only the Horde had to worry about the location of the Elements set, as they were the only faction that had shaman. Luckily for shaman, most of their set pieces were on bosses that people wanted to kill anyway.
- Cord of Elements This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Boots of Elements These drop from Highlord Omokk in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Bindings of Elements These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Stratholme and Scholomance.
- Coif of Elements This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Gauntlets of Elements These BoE gloves drop from Pyroguard Emberseer in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Kilt of Elements This drops from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Pauldrons of Elements These drop from Gyth, the mount of Rend Blackhand in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Vest of Elements This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.

Again, prior to The Burning Crusade, only one faction had to worry about this set. Alliance was the home of the paladin, and thankfully, the paladins didn't have to worry overly much about any of their set pieces, as they all dropped off of bosses that needed to be killed to move on in the instances.
- Lightforge Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Stratholme.
- Lightforge Boots These drop from Balnazzar, the last boss of the live side of Stratholme.
- Lightforge Bracers These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Scholomance.
- Lightforge Breastplate This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Lightforge Gauntlets These BoE gloves drop from Timmy the Cruel in the live side of Stratholme.
- Lightforge Legplates These drop from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Lightforge Spaulders These drop from The Beast in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Lightforge Helm This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.

Poor, poor mages. Once upon a time, the boots for the Magister's set dropped from Postmaster Malown, a boss that pretty much nobody ever wanted to kill. This was because it took a crazy amount of time to get him to spawn -- so most mages had to go without their boots until the drop was changed to the Hearthsinger, who was much easier to find and destroy.
- Magister's Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Scholomance, Stratholme and Blackrock Spire.
- Magister's Bindings These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Magister's Crown This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Magister's Gloves These BoE gloves drop from Doctor Theolen Krastinov in Scholomance.
- Magister's Leggings These drop from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Magister's Mantle This drops from Ras Frostwhisper in Scholomance.
- Magister's Robes This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Magister's Boots These drop from Hearthsinger Forresten, a rare boss in between live and undead Stratholme.

As with the hunters, rogues had a hard time with a piece of their set because of its out-of-the-way location. In this case, it was the gloves that dropped from a boss in a remote location in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Shadowcraft Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Shadowcraft Boots These drop from Rattlegore in Scholomance.
- Shadowcraft Bracers These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Stratholme and Scholomance.
- Shadowcraft Tunic This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Shadowcraft Spaulders These drop from Cannon Master Willey in the live side of Stratholme.
- Shadowcraft Pants These drop from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Shadowcraft Gloves These BoE gloves drop from Shadow Hunter Vosh'gajin in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Shadowcraft Cap This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.

Druids luckily had a fairly easy time with their sets in vanilla, because most bosses that dropped their set pieces were also objects for quests in the various dungeons.
- Wildheart Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Scholomance and Blackrock Spire.
- Wildheart Boots These drop from Mother Smolderweb in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Wildheart Bracers These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Stratholme and Scholomance.
- Wildheart Cowl This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Wildheart Vest This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Wildheart Spaulders These drop from Gizrul the Slavener in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- Wildheart Kilt This drops from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Wildheart Gloves These BoE gloves drop from The Unforgiven, a ghost boss that spawns on the live side of Stratholme.

And then we have the priests. Much like mages, priest had a terrible time trying to get their shoulder armor due to their dropping from a boss that could only be spawned by doing an event. Nobody ever wanted to do the event.
- Devout Belt This BoE belt has a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Blackrock Spire.
- Devout Sandals These drop from Maleki the Pallid on the undead side of Stratholme.
- Devout Bracers These BoE bracers have a small chance of dropping off of mobs in Stratholme.
- Devout Crown This drops from Darkmaster Gandling, the last boss of Scholomance.
- Devout Gloves These BoE gloves drop from Archivist Galford in the live side of Stratholme.
- Devout Mantle This drops from Solakar Flamewreath in Upper Blackrock Spire.
- Devout Skirt This drops from Baron Rivendare, the last boss of the undead side of Stratholme.
- Devout Robe This drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss in Upper Blackrock Spire.

This set is a little ... unique. It was the only blue set other than the class sets, and it didn't have a class specification. All pieces dropped in Stratholme from Postmaster Malown, who I mentioned earlier. The reason this set is so hard to obtain is the sheer amount of annoyance in getting Malown to spawn. First, you have to travel to live side Stratholme and kill the Stratholme Courier, who will drop keys to various mailboxes throughout the area. Next, you have to travel to the mailboxes and open them, which will spawn several elite mobs. You must do this three times; when you open the third mailbox, Postmaster Malown will spawn. Kill him, and he will drop a piece of the Postmaster set. While most of the set pieces drop relatively frequently, the Postmaster's Band only has about a 5 percent drop rate, so you have to keep resetting the instance, killing the Courier, killing Malown, and praying. The completed set looks snazzy and grants a lot of set bonuses; if you have the full five pieces, you get a 5 percent boost to run speed, presumably to help you deliver the mail that much faster. Be warned, it takes a crazy amount of time to farm this set -- so unless you're a serious set collector, you can probably skip it.

- The Postmaster's Tunic
- The Postmaster's Treads
- The Postmaster's Seal
- The Postmaster's Trousers

Has there been any word on the set storage thing they keep talking about and then never doing anything with?
My bank is full of sets...
Daethar Sep 10th 2010 11:21AM
As a level 80 trying to collect my old dungeon set for my rogue and mage, I would argue that the chest piece is NOW the hardest to obtain.
General Drakkisath is still not a cakewalk for the uninitiated. Soloing him isn't nearly as easy as other old world bosses, and for some classes is very hard until late wrath gear levels.
Also, he is the last boss of UBRS, and unlike most bosses who drop dungeon set pieces, you can't just skip to the end and kill him. You have to go through the fire elemental boss. You have to defeat Warchief Rend Blackhand. And you have to deal with many mobs that are generally a pain in the neck if you aren't a tanking class. Not to mention, to even get to UBRS, you need to pull a ton of boring trash in LBRS just to open the doors, and then they summon their friends if you don't do it fast enough... blegh.
And after all of this.... you only have a 1 in 9 chance of the drop being the drop you want. Hooray! (On a side note, any warlocks on BDF should come on my next run, so far the Dreadmist Robe has dropped 4 times in 4 runs *sigh*)
The chest pieces are the last I need for both of the characters I am collecting. I'm not really sure if it will ever get done.

Methinks you don't know where the line between Upper and Lower is. You don't have to kill anything to get to UBRS anymore. You can't get out of the first room (of Upper) without killing a whole lot of mobs, but it IS Upper, because it's behind the door that was once opened by the Seal of Ascension and now is just open all the time.

I was there not to long ago and what hes saying was true for me too. had to kill all the orcs in the rooms with the tiles on the ground, before the door opened...can skip the dragonkin
I do remember shortly after the change it was just open but I think they modified it some....or its bugged on my server or something
Daethar Sep 10th 2010 7:50PM
Indeed, for me you must kill all the orcs in the small side rooms before the door leading to UBRS will open. You can't click it, lockpick it, nothing. This door leads TO the room with Pyroguard Emberseer.
And, as mentioned right above, you don't need to kill the dragonkin. But you probably will end up AoE-ing them down anyway.

UBRS is still fun. Ran through it early after wrath was released on my DK just to see it again and was easy. Fast forward to last week or so when I finally decided to drag my priest through it, boy such a difference. Completely forgot about the stuns/interupts so instead of a quick 10-15 minute run that my DK would do, probably spent 30 minutes or so slowly picking through the crud at the start. But seeing as it was a "raid" instance at first 10-15man on until it was tweaked to 5manning it should be still somewhat difficult.
LBRS is off to the right side when you first zone in, UBRS at first had a door where that bridge/alcove area is which you needed to get the key fragments from LBRS if you didn't pick it at the time. They dropped the door since then so you don't have to do anything other than walk through, clear the "lock" rooms then the inner door opens.

love that you mentioned the postmaster set. Dont forget about the ironweave battlesuit! http://www.wowhead.com/itemset=520
Scunosi Sep 10th 2010 12:29PM
I think the Ironweave set and one or two others were added either late Vanilla or in BC maybe, for those poor souls like Feral Druids who wanted the stats of the Shadowcraft set but didn't happen to be rogues. Hence, class-free sets!
Marbles Sep 10th 2010 12:50PM
Ironweave was put in when the Dungeon Set 2 upgrades were put in (as most pieces drop from the new bosses). And it was designed as a PVP set for cloth wearers, hence the armour buff.
There were several other sets apart from the Postmaster which had no class requirements:
Gladiator from BRD arena;
Necropile (cloth),
Cadavarous (Leather),
Bloodmail (Mail) &
Deathbone(Plate) all dropped from bosses in Scholomance.
Most/all of them have bizarre stats/set bonuses by todays standards.
feniks9174 Sep 10th 2010 11:22AM
Cool, I've been planning on doing this with my lock for a while. Weekend project!
James Sep 10th 2010 3:23PM
My main is a DK, it would have been cool if they had sneaked in a set for them so they didn't feel left out :D
CDave Sep 10th 2010 11:24AM
Ms Stickney,
any plans to make a guide for the upgraded set? i had fun doing that recently, and the questline was pretty good story-wise. its a good way to appreciate and get a last taste of the old world, especially those who never experienced the cenarion circle rep grind
Comito Sep 10th 2010 12:51PM
I probably would have done this if I had space to store them, but with just level 80 sets for paladins for 3 possible specs, each spec with possibilities of different variants for different styles of play......
I'll have to pass for now, I'm still thinking what to do with my T10 gear that I've earned....come Cata, not sure if I have space for keeping it either.....
mirilene Sep 10th 2010 11:25AM
hmm, now that im looking it up, i see that you actually have to be on the Dungeon 2 upgrade quests to even summon some of the bosses that drop ironweave. That probably doesnt fit in too well with the theme of the post. Carry on!
Grovinofdarkhour Sep 10th 2010 11:29AM
Well crap, there go my next 5-8 weekends.
Jack Miles Sep 10th 2010 11:31AM
Beaststalker's Pants! WOO!
That's what we need! Strength and Spirit on hunters!
Vladeon Sep 10th 2010 1:05PM
To be fair though, that was back when hunters had no real easy way to regen mana between fights other than drinking. Hunters didn't have aspect of the viper or viper sting, they had to sit down and drink their milk or whatever and any spirit would help with that. I'm not entirely sure about strength though unless hunters used to use it for attack power.

I've been saying for a while that Blizz should give us clothing whores a Wardrobe bag. A la:
Portable Wardrobe Closet
Binds when equipped
64 Slot Equipment Bag
Item Level 100
They already have the program logic in the game to allow only items of a certain type in certain bags (like the 32-slot tradeskill bags). It should be pretty trivial to create a bag and tag it to only allow it to hold only gear items.
tonz0phun Sep 10th 2010 2:07PM
Lord of the Rings Online has something like this.
WoWie Zowie Sep 10th 2010 3:05PM
I need this. i can't get rid of my brewfest steins and various achievement tabards. its just silly they haven't put in a wardrobe type of thing yet.
