To be fair though, that was back when hunters had no real easy way to regen mana between fights other than drinking. Hunters didn't have aspect of the viper or viper sting, they had to sit down and drink their milk or whatever and any spirit would help with that. I'm not entirely sure about strength though unless hunters used to use it for attack power.
