Cataclysm Beta: Build 12942 for healing priests

- Power Word: Barrier has had the amount it absorbs increased. It will now absorb a total of 6 percent of spellpower plus 21,225 damage (up from 5 percent of SP plus 11,000.) It will still only absorb a portion of incoming damage if the damage exceeds 20 percent of the total absorb value.
- Borrowed Time will no longer increase the amount absorbed by Power Word: Shield. It will just increase your spell haste.
- Renewed Hope will now apply to targets with Grace. This means any target you heal with more than one spell (or more than one tick of Penance) will gain an additional 10 percent chance to be hit with a critical Flash Heal, Greater Heal, Heal or Penance.
- Inner Focus no longer costs mana.
- Improved Inner Fire has been renamed to Inner Sanctum. The new talent will no longer increase the overall effects of your Inner Fire, instead it will cause your Inner Fire to reduce all spell damage taken by 5/10/15 percent. The talent will now also affect Inner Will by increasing the movement speed bonus by 2/4/6 percent.
- Improved Healing will no longer affect Lesser Heal. This is just a tweak to the language of the tooltip for consistency.
This is what the new glyph interface looks like, in case you haven't seen it already. With the new system, glyphs are no longer consumable and are instead learned. The learned glyphs appear in the right-hand column of your glyphs panel and can be dragged and dropped at the cost of a reagent called Vanishing Powder. This new system will allow easier customization before particular dungeons or fights. For example, if your party or raid needs more crowd control, you could take the Glyph of Psychic Scream in place of a glyph that doesn't suit the fight as much (perhaps Glyph of Holy Nova).

- Flash Heal Changed -- Increases the critical effect chance of your Flash Heal on targets at or below 25% health by 10%.
- Guardian Spirit Changed -- Reduces the cooldown of your Guardian Spirit by 30 sec.
- Lightwell Changed -- Increases the total amount of charges of your Lightwell by 5.

- Renew Same -- Reduces the duration of your renew by 3 sec, but increases the amount healed each tick by 25%.
- Shadow Word: Death Changed -- If your Shadow Word: Death fails to kill the target at or below 25% health, your Shadow Word: Death's cooldown is instantly reset.
- Shadow Word: Pain Changed -- Increases the periodic damage of your Shadow Word: Pain by 10%.
- Circle of Healing Same -- Your Circle of Healing spell heals 1 additional target.
- Dispel Magic Same -- Your Dispel Magic spell also heals your target for 3% of maximum health.
- Divine Accuracy New -- Increases you chance to hit with your Smite by 18%.

- Fear Ward Same -- Reduces cooldown and duration of Fear Ward by 60 sec.

- Smite Same -- Your Smite spell inflicts an additional 20% damage against targets afflicted by Holy Fire.
- Spirit of Redemption Same -- Increases the duration of Spirit of Redemption by 6 sec.
- Fading Same -- Reduces the mana cost of your Fade spell by 30%.
- Fortitude Same -- Reduces the mana cost of your Power Word: Fortitude spell by 50%
- Levitate Same -- Your Levitate spell no longer requires a reagent.
- Shackle Undead Same -- Increases the range of your Shackle Undead spell by 5 yards.
- Shadow Protection Same -- Increases the duration of your Shadow Protection spell by 10 min.
- Shadowfiend Same -- Receive 5% of your maximum mana if your Shadowfiend dies from damage.

i was a little worry about us disc priest casting Smite so a percentage of that damage can transfer to heal, so that glyph is gonna be mandatory of we spec into it

I'm really looking forward to playing my priest in Cata!
But I was wondering if we will have a talent to increase the absorption of our bubbles now that "Borrowed Time" is gone?....or maybe I read it wrong. Please let me know anyone.

Lysdexia strikes again! The build number is 12942 not 12492. :p

damn, you beat me to it

*grumble grumble* comment monster hates me today.
I had gone on to say that I had a hard time picking talents as a Disc Priest, there are too many really good talents to be able to get them all (seriously, there's like 45 talent points in the Disc tree) and it pained me to subspec for things that I felt were needed.

Fixed (the number) thanks =)

No problem :D

That SW:Death glyph looks interesting. Does that mean SPriests will be spamming SW:Death on bosses at
Byron Sep 10th 2010 10:02PM
... at less than 25% health, at least when they're not refreshing SW:P and VT?
(have to spell out 'less than' or it gets mistaken for an html bracket and cut off)
C.S.Strowbridge Sep 10th 2010 10:36PM
A Glyphed SW:Death with Masochism becomes a Life Tap, but one that does damage.
Cool.

Other classes need to watch themselves now, get below 25% health near a spriest and BAM dead in seconds.
Sharvis Sep 10th 2010 10:35PM
Vanishing powder? Aw lame. I already dislike class reagents taking up inventory space, now we'll be stocking that too. Don't get me wrong, being able to switch glyphs without losing them is a lot better than the current system at least.
The Flash Heal glyph is excellent. It makes sense to have that emergency heal work better more often so as to avoid throwing it out and having the target remain in the critcial health zone or return to it soon after.
Dawn Moore Sep 11th 2010 12:03AM
Well, on the plus side, you won't need candles anymore for Power Word: Fortitude and Prayer of Shadow Protection. I tend to carry around 3 stacks of candles, but no more! So the single stack of Vanishing Powder isn't terrible seeing as I got 2 free slots out of the ordeal.
Sharvis Sep 11th 2010 9:14AM
That's even better! I know I'll be using the Vanishing Powder a lot less than I currently use the candles.

"Psychic Scream Changed -- Cause your Psychic Scream to tremble targets in place instead of fleeing in fear, but increases the cooldown of your Psychic Scream by 3 sec."
I would like to know who it was in the Dev team that made that change. I would like to buy them a gift.
I'm serious.
pvewhore Sep 10th 2010 11:35PM
I am in agreement, also I think its still fear so they can actually take some damage before the break, unlike most other CC.
On the QQ side, however, the short duration makes it more of an emergency CC, and to be used effectively we need to be in melee range with (shudder) the rogues!
Cetha Sep 10th 2010 11:44PM
you are so right. that is a HUGE change. I'm very excited I get to use my scream more often again. It's one of my favorite spells in the game actually, there's something awesome about the idea of letting out a scream of psychic energy and making everyone run fleeing in fear. Back in classic pvp days I used to have a /yell macro bound to it..."GET AWAY FROM ME!!!"
I'm in love with that Archangel screenshot too!
Hih Sep 11th 2010 5:11AM
Among other uses, the Psychic Scream glyph seems like it would be pretty amazing for instances if CC really does become prevalent again. The Priest runs up to the pull, screams, and then everyone else gets their "real" CC off without fear of the group of mobs splitting up and chasing down the mage because the mage pulled with poly, or having CC be too late and be on the tank and in the tank's aoe stuff.

Sadly, the change to the Improved Inner Fire/Inner Sanctum talent seems to shift that talent's focus more towards PvP. Without that talent, Disc priests might once again have to look at Evangalism/Archangel or Atonement to fill out a 31-point PvE healing tree.
That said, its been a while since I looked at the beta priest talents. I potentially like the Strength of Soul talent allowing us to bubble a target (read:tank) a little more frequently.

Divine Accuracy looks like one hell of a leveling glyph.
