The Queue: The one where we issue a retraction

Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not back running today's The Queue just because yesterday was, like, the most awesome edition of all time. I'm back because there's serious work to be done.
You see, sometimes, in the rush to break a story, those of us here in the "media" jump to judgement. We make mistakes. As such ... The Queue would like to make the following retraction:
That drunk girl in a Boston bar did not think Mike Sacco's hair smelled like girls' hair. She thought it smelled better than girls' hair. We apologize for the error. (And not just because it means we get to reuse the Mike Sacco has girl hair tag.)
Dudegar asked:
How are flight paths handled in Cataclysm? Are they changed much? If so, if I have all the flight paths in the old world at the moment, are they going to reset in Cataclysm and I will need to grab them again? Or are they automatically adjusted?
Judging from what's currently in the beta, there's some good news for you and some bad news. The good news is that most of your accumulated flight points are still there. Alliance characters will still their flightpoint in Southshore even though Southshore is gone. For now, anyway -- there's not really a reason for Alliance to visit anymore, so it could get scrapped at any moment. But you should be keeping all your existing flight points to towns that Deathwing doesn't eat.
The most important note about flight points in Cataclysm isn't what happens to the old ones. It's the fact that Blizzard has added tons of new flight points to existing zones. For example, there are no fewer than three new ones in Tanaris, like the neutral Bootlegger Outpost and some faction-specific ones in the far south. Heck, even the Burning Steppes gets a new flight point run by the Thorium Brotherhood. You have to discover those flight points before you can use them, though.
Currently, in the beta, some of the existing flight paths are inoperational until you pick up some of the new ones. (I'm hoping they fix that.) You can tell where the new flight points are on the overview map of the zone, though, so you'll at least know where you need to visit.
arixian asked:
When I read in previous articles/comments that there would be a portals room in Stormwind I guess I assumed that it would have portals to all the major cities ala the one in Dalaran but you are saying that it only has portals for the new zones, any chance of this changing to the later?
Well, it's really more of a portal island. And all the real estate is taken. Portal to Tol Barad here, a brand new Starbucks there. And another Starbucks right across the street from that Starbucks.
In all seriousness, though, Blizzard frequently patches in conveniences for players. Look at all the mailboxes they added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar. And the portals to the Blasted Lands. I can't say they'll add portals any time soon, but they might someday.
James asked:
What's the best way to deal with a flatmate who torrents every night when you are trying to play WoW?
Oh, James. I used to have torrent-loving roommates. It stunk trying to raid Icecrown Citadel with 3,000 milliseconds of latency just because your roommate needs another 10 gigs of pornography.
You know what I did to solve the problem? I asked him not to do it while I play WoW. Seriously. I mean, you could follow the advice of everyone yesterday who suggested reporting him to federal agents, but I dunno, just talking with him sounds less messy.

Hey, you'll still have the Caverns of Time mission to go lounge around there in if you're nostalgic!

You feel sadness. Join me, and I will show you how to turn that sadness into HATE! Together will will topple the Dark Queen. We will obliterate the sick abominations who did this to fairest south shore. Our might, our courage, our drive for revenge shall see Lordaeronreturned to the hands of those who created it. Southshore may be gone, but together we can turn Fenris Isle and Andorhal into beacons of light in that depressing sea of evil!
Nipah Sep 10th 2010 7:38PM
It's about time... do you know how many times we had to raid that damn place before it got burned off the map?
... what? South Shore sucks. We did you a favor. If we had let it stay, those crazy murlocs would've rolled through and killed every man, woman, and Gnome. (You see what I did there? Gnomes are children!)
But seriously... Tarren Mill RULES!
SaintStryfe Sep 10th 2010 7:38PM
Harness your hate. Make it useful.

@ James
"What's the best way to deal with a flatmate who torrents every night when you are trying to play WoW?"
If you are sharing a connection, then you likely have a router. Alot of routers have options to prioritize connects and/or applications. I would recommend that.
If your roommate uses utorrent, he could schedule it to limit the connection at certain time/day of the week.

But but but.... however shall Helcular get his revenge anymore?

WTB more upvotes for Nipah. For the Horde!
Don't worry Allies, you guys have smashed Camp Taurajo, turned the Southern Barrens into an all out battlefield, and are trying to break through into Mulgore. It all evens out.
@slunk: /agreed. L2Router ftw. Seriously, google how to log into your router's admin interface (usually just point a web browser to http://192.168.2.1 or something similar) and figure out how to govern torrents with it. Your cable modem (and probably DSL modem if that's what you have) also usually have a web interface as well, useful to know about.

"... Lordaeron returned to the hands of those who created it."
Wait, just who do you think created it? The people of Lordaeron created it, and they're still there, just not as human as they used to be. You Stormwind-based humans had nothing to do with it, and you can have that land when you pry it from their cold, dead (but still creepily animated) hands.
Shyster Sep 11th 2010 1:22AM
I hear the place got wrecked by those four little kids and their shenanigans bringing in a 'mecha-streisand' and it just demolished the whole town.
Wait south SHORE? Oh.. hm..
Seems I've been mislead.
Angrycelt Sep 11th 2010 2:23AM
Tarren mill is just jealous of Southshore's intact walls and covered floors. And as for taking back Lordaeron for the living... we go through and slaughter everyone in the city on a weekly basis and nobody but the npc's even put up a fight.

"It stunk trying to raid Icecrown Citadel with 3,000 milliseconds of latency."
Pfft! Down in Oceania, we call that "Fridays"
Amaxe Sep 10th 2010 7:42PM
Or "slightly slower than normal" with Satellite internet
Steve Sep 10th 2010 8:49PM
One time, in Oceania, my latency was so bad I travelled back in time. Honest.
Neofox Sep 11th 2010 5:35AM
Oh I've had satellite internet before... In fact I started WoW with it.
You think raiding with that much latency is difficult? Try running a flag in WSG with people melee hitting you from 20 yards behind.
