Major Cataclysm currency changes

- Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost become Justice Points.
- All other emblems and badges are converted into gold, including BC-level badges.
- All PvP currencies (current Honor Points, Arena Points, Marks of Honor, Stone Keeper's Shards, etc.) will become the new Honor Points.
- While there is a cap on new currencies in Cataclysm, that cap is being ignored for the purpose of the initial conversion. You just won't be able to earn anything beyond the cap if you're over it initially. This will then change shortly before Cataclysm is released, cutting off all currencies to the hard cap, with excess points being converted to gold.
- Justice Points Low-tier, easy-to-get PvE points that will buy gear (like Emblems of Triumph are now)
- Valor Points High-tier, harder-to-get PvE points that will buy gear (like Emblems of Frost are now)
- Honor Points Low-tier, easy-to-get PvP points that will buy PvP gear (like normal Honor Points are now)
- Conquest Points High-tier, harder-to-get PvP points that will buy PvP gear (like Arena Points are now)
After the break, the full Blizzard statement on the upcoming Cataclysm currency changes.
As we discussed in our previous announcement (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=24401796793), we're refining the currency systems used for purchasing PvE and PvP items in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and the transition to this new system will take place in two stages. Today, we're going into more detail on how these changes will be rolled out, so if you haven't yet, make sure to check out the prior article to get up to speed on the currency names.
One change of note since that original announcement is that we've changed the name of the low-tier PvE currency from Hero Points to Justice Points. The original announcement post has been updated to reflect this.
Out With the Old
In the upcoming 4.0 patch we'll begin the first stage of the conversion to the new currencies. Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost will be converted into Justice Points. For this initial conversion there will be a soft cap of points you can have, with a hard cap enforced later as detailed below. All PvE emblems and badges below Frost and Triumph will be converted into gold. This even includes legacy badges, like Badges of Justice. If any of these older currencies are converted into gold, the player will receive it through an in-game letter.
At this time any bosses a player defeats that are level-appropriate to them (and previously awarded badges or emblems upon defeat) will award them with the new Justice Points. Similarly, any items that previously cost emblems or badges of any type will now cost Justice Points instead.
On the PvP side, Season 8 will end with the release of patch 4.0, and all Arena Points, Honor Points, any leftover Battleground Marks of Honor, Stone Keeper's Shards, Venture Coins, and Spirit Shards will be converted into the new Honor Points. The new Honor Point pool will also have a soft cap for these conversions, but a hard cap will be enforced later. At the time of conversion, items that previously cost Honor or Arena Points will be sold in exchange for the new Honor Points. Rated Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds won't be available again until Season 9 (shortly after the release of Cataclysm), when they can be entered to win the higher-tier PvP Conquest Points.
In addition, purchasing any item with these secondary currencies (Honor Points and Justice Points) will now require that the purchaser meet the item's minimum level requirement.
It's important to note that these conversions are not 1:1, but are indicative of the level and relative worth of each before the conversion to the new point systems. For example, Stone Keeper's Shards will convert into more Honor Points than Spirit Shards.
Tip of the Cap
While we previously announced that there's a limit to the amount of these new currencies you can stockpile, we're providing a grace period in the form of a soft cap. This soft cap will allow the initial conversion to push the amount owned over the cap, but will not allow any further points to be earned (or returned through item refunds) until enough points are spent to put you below the hard cap.
For instance, a player has 3000 Emblems of Triumph, and 1200 Emblems of Frost; at the time of conversion they'll be given 4200 Justice Points. The hard cap for Justice Points is 4000, so that player won't be able to earn any more Justice Points until he or she spends enough points to reduce the total to under 4000. This also applies to the new PvP Honor Points, which also have a cap of 4000.
Shortly before Cataclysm is released, another patch will enforce the hard cap, marking the second stage of the currency conversion. Any Justice or Honor Points above the hard cap will be converted to gold, and just like in the first stage of the conversion, the player will receive an in-game letter explaining that some of their currencies were converted into gold as well as delivering the gold itself.
One change of note since that original announcement is that we've changed the name of the low-tier PvE currency from Hero Points to Justice Points. The original announcement post has been updated to reflect this.

Couldnt tell I'm in the EU we dont even have funtioning char copies or a blue giving us ANY info. While i realise they dont truly need the EU testing it sickens me that we can't even get an "oh sorry guys we'll get back to you with more info later"

To be honest i'm tired of all the currency changes. It's getting kind of annoying. Hopefully they'll have this system for a while.

I don't normally hyjak posts but I really want to know (so I will make one exception and pray someone reads this). Does this mean that the BC vedor items are going away or will they just cost gold?
Why I think this is important: Well if you can buy for gold, then many of those items are better itemized (and hopefully will remain so) currently than most low level WotLK quest rewards. And since "everyone" is going to be leveling at least a toon come Cataclysm.... well you get the point.

Could you possibly let us know roughly what was converted into gold and how much of it you had?
Is it worth it to go farm some old content for badges that'll get converted into gold? xD
Also, change of subject, i really hate it when people post stuff that's actually right and people downvote it. :|
Imi Sep 14th 2010 11:09PM
How many badges of justice did you have? We are think about farming them. :)

FINALLY - a use for Venture Coins
LordVashtal Sep 14th 2010 12:31PM
I wonder if my boatload of northrend cooking badges will be converted as well. I've got a huge stockpile of northrend spices as it is from the daily cooking quest, and since there's no way to transfer the badges my other toons can't pick up the northrend recipes, so they're quite useless to me
wutsconflag Sep 14th 2010 12:34PM
Unlikely, actually. You can exchange them for Northrend spices which will still be necessary to level your cooking through the Wrath levels.
tresser Sep 14th 2010 1:58PM
yeah, i was saving all mine up ( i had 519 at the time) but then i saw that there's a chance they'll be useless...so i cashed them all in and sold stacks of spices at 75g. i'm all better now.
JonQ917 Sep 14th 2010 12:31PM
Wait so that means that triumph and frost cost the same amount of justice points?!?!
Morcego Sep 14th 2010 12:33PM
No. Those are just examples.
byoonie Sep 14th 2010 12:34PM
I believe that's what they're implying. That was the first thing I noticed too. So going by what they said, you can stock up on Triumph emblems and purchase T10 gear once the conversion patch arrives.
xvkarbear Sep 14th 2010 12:34PM
They will for a small period of time before the new tier and heroism points are needed for T11.
Samutz Sep 14th 2010 12:35PM
No. "It's important to note that these conversions are not 1:1".
Meaning that 1 Frost might convert to say 10 points, but 1 Triumph might convert to 2 points. (This is just an example, not the actual conversion rates.)

In other words, no, they won't be. The blue poster was just using that 3000 triumph badges and 1200 frost badges = 4200 justice points as merely an example used to illustrate what they're going to do with people who go over the cap.
arcady0 Sep 14th 2010 1:06PM
Unless the conversion rate is something absurd, this will still make getting t10 easier. But that's no big deal - might as well make it easier to get as we get closer to the new xpac.
Come day 1 of Cataclysm, and no one will want that t10 anymore, even if it ends up better than level 85 greens - simply because we'll all we'll be looking forward and not backwards. So they might as well try to squeeze out every last bit of use of t10 before cataclysm launches.

@arcady0: Upwards, not forward! And always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
Boobah Sep 14th 2010 3:28PM
While some of the other points may not be 1:1, as of the current PTR it sure looks like Frost and Triumph both convert to one Justice point a piece.
It's worth noting, however, that unless you have truly amazing amounts of Triumph badges, they won't help much in buying the 251 and 264 badge gear; the t10 pieces cost 694 Justice for the hands/shoulders (which are 60 Frost on live) while the head/chest/legs cost 1100 Justice (instead of 95 Frost on live)
For what it's worth, neither regular nor heroic LK randoms are awarding any bonus Justice points.
And, so far, the PTR hasn't implemented the conversions to Honor points, since I'm still sitting on several hundred Stone Keeper's Shards, and the random battleground still offers both bonus Arena and Honor points.
