so with the new WoW Insider site coming, there won't be any Halo in our WoW but there still be OTHER MMO's in our WoW? :)
Kia Sep 14th 2010 4:00PM
Where have you been? They've always done an MMO Roundup post.
Samutz Sep 14th 2010 4:07PM
Hence the word "still".
Alex Ziebart Sep 14th 2010 4:10PM
Yes, because WoW Insider and Massively have this wacky relationship where we like to see each other succeed. : )
Agrona Sep 14th 2010 3:54PM
This week on "Games none of you play but we are contractually obligated to talk about"...
Alex Ziebart Sep 14th 2010 4:07PM
We're actually not contractually obligated to post this at all. If I didn't want to do it, I wouldn't have to. We're the only ones that determine what goes on our blog. We post it because Massively isn't just our sister site, they're not just our coworkers -- they're our friends. We want to highlight their content because they do a damn good job of it. We're in a position to bring more awareness to their awesome MMO content, so we do it gladly. We also have the ability to post our major news stories on their site when we want to. It's a good relationship.
I believe all of our contracts here at WoW.com/WoW Insider actually say that Aol's corporate offices cannot dictate our editorial voice. The only people that can do that is our own editorial staff.
Jamesisgreat Sep 14th 2010 4:17PM
Actually, this is perhaps the post I look forward to the most. The more burnt out I get with WoW, the more other MMO's interest me. It was here that I learnt about LotRO becoming free to play, which has led me to play that title, which has been a great space filler between WoW expansions.
And to suggest that nobody here is not even a little interested in SW:TOR is a little disingenuous. No matter how much you love WoW, you've gotta admit that SW:TOR is shaping up to be a great game.
Sneaksy Sep 14th 2010 4:19PM
Actually, I'm downloading the Lord of the Rings Online right now and I'm going to check out The Old Republic once it's released. I'm a geek so Warcraft, Middle-earth and Star Wars are my personal favorites.
Anyways, not all of us 'just play WoW'. I'm a gamer, I play several games.
zeldasasami Sep 14th 2010 4:23PM
Some of us do care. Because of the column, I'm keeping an eye out on the eye candy that is TERA. People are also thinking about hopping over to TOR for a bit too.
Don't jump to conclusions just because you don't like one post a week, just don't read it.
Wolftech Sep 14th 2010 4:42PM
Some of us do play other MMORPGs. I play Champions Online and Lord of the Rings Online. When Star Wars TOR drops, I expect to play it too.
Ice Sep 14th 2010 4:42PM
Again, this goes to this cycle.
"Heres post about pvp/pve that most of us dont care"
"Heres post about RP that most of us dont care" (last RP article had..umh, 2½ comments..)
"Heres post about machinima that most us..."
Theres no need to be stuck for one game. If you have the money or time, try other games. Atleast try them. Singleplayer or not. Specially during pre-cata things I would rather play something else to kill time than idle in dalaran.
Also its nice to see how is SW TOR coming along..
Amaxe Sep 14th 2010 5:38PM
Never bothers me when WoW.com does this kind of article. While I don't go looking much at the news for other games, sometimes it is interesting to take a look and see what goes on elsewhere.
Now if WoW.com did this so often that it seemed that WoW was an afterthought, I'd object. But things being as they are (once a week basically) I see nothing to complain about and sometimes it is interesting.
Haff Sep 14th 2010 9:19PM
So don't read it.... my god you lot can whinge.
Ametrine Sep 14th 2010 4:13PM
Shocking as it might sound, folks, there are other cool MMOs out there besides just WoW, and it's nice every now and then to give them a bit of credit and a tip of the hat.
Agrona Sep 14th 2010 6:41PM
Yeah. I was dying to know about Selena Gomez and Wizard101. That's some editorial voice right there.
You're right, there are OTHER mmos and they have OTHER sites for their fans. If someone was a fan of that game why would they need WoW.com to link to something they already knew?
Pagecount to increase ad revenue on mothersite.
Alex Ziebart Sep 14th 2010 6:54PM
Conspiracy theories are fun for the whole family!
Agrona Sep 14th 2010 7:11PM
So are fluff Copy-And-Paste link submissions!
Darasen Sep 14th 2010 6:00PM
The Gandalf commercial rocks. CCP looking to Deviant Art is nice to help a struggling newcomer but I feel a bit sorry for them as 95+% of everything on Deviant is crap.
Sean Sep 14th 2010 7:45PM
Very cool commercial for LOTRO, too bad the game sucks. The Free to Play model is one of the most limited I've ever seen. It's basically like if you played the WoW demo. After that you have to pay to get access to anything, or even carry around more than a couple of gold. PASS
I would suggest that anyone who likes WoW and doesn't like FFXI to PASS on FFXIV. It's awful. I doubt that it will survive in America. Overly complicated, brutally punishing, and painfully slow.
Amaxe Sep 15th 2010 1:39AM
I haven't tried the free LOTRO but I did try the pay version (I had Angmar and Moria sets so two months free).
LOTRO certainly has superior lore to WoW and the community is much nicer (if you ask a question in game, you *don't* get a chorus of L2P noob but actual answers), but unfortunately LOTRO entirely lacks in the mechanics which makes game play fun. I found myself bored with LOTRO in a way which I never felt even when grinding dailies in WoW.
Plus the mail system is easily the worst I ever encountered, and having to pay $20 for the shared bank slots made exchanging mats between toons excruciating.
Free or not, I won't be back to LOTRO
