Cataclysm currency exchange rates

The Cataclysm currency conversion rates in brief are:
To gold:
- Emblem of Heroism = 5.5 gold each
- Emblem of Valor = 5.5 gold each
- Emblem of Conquest = 5.5 gold each
- Badge of Justice = 1.833 gold each
- Old Honor * 0.024
- Old Arena Points * 0.85
- Battleground Mark of Honor * 2.976
- Wintergrasp Mark of Honor * 19.08
- Stone Keeper Shard * 1.6
- Venture Coin * 3
- Spirit Shard * 1
- (Emblems of Triumph + Emblems of Frost ) * 2.75
BlizzardHere's some information on how each of the currencies will be converted in the next content patch. Keep in mind these values may change, and they can get a bit math heavy. Just know that our intent is to appropriately value each mark and provide a conversion we feel is fair.
The following items are immediately converted to gold:
Your New Honor Points total will be the sum of the following amounts:
Your Justice Points total will be equal to (Emblems of Triumph + Emblems of Frost ) * 2.75
Again, the softcap for both Honor and Justice conversions is 4000 points. This means that if a character converts to above 4,000 points, it will not be possible for them to earn more until they fall below the 4,000 cap.
A hardcap will be implemented in a following patch before Cataclysm's release. At that time, any excess points above 4,000 will be converted as follows:

Vaneras: "Honor points above 4,000 are converted to gold at a rate of 35 silver per point of Honor."
Although your 75k current honor becomes all of 1800 new honor, which is less than halfway to the cap.

OH JOY!! I only need 39,045 badges of Conquest or below to reach gold cap ;)

Anyone on Test see what was done (if anything) to Wintergrasp Commendations? I was hoarding a bunch to get some PvP gear after Cata hits.
Are they still around?
Can you still buy/use them?

My question is:
Are old instances that used to reward Badges of Justice now going to reward nothing? Or just a tiny amount of Justice Points?
It seems odd to give people Justice Points (which will be used for level 85 gear) for clearing content designed for level 70 characters (or for that matter, soon-to-be-old-content WotLK raids).

The BoJ rewards probably will be purchased with small amounts of Justice Points.

What do you get for doing a random heroic AFTER this change? 2.75 per boss kill plus 5.5 bonus points for completing the dungeon?

I did one on the PTR and got 27JP.

Im just glad to get rid of the Venture Coins.

You would need to have 1455 Emblems of Triumph and Frost to get over the cap. That is simply a ridiculous amount that no one should be sitting on. Every 10 Emblems converts straight into a gem, which sells for ~100g on the auction house.

Could we get a listing of the cost of some sample BoA/heirloom items in the beta? (Yes, we know beta = not final.) I was going to use some heroism/valor emblems to purchase BoA gear. But is it better to wait...? (My guess is Blizz will make it roughly equal - but that's a guess.)

Is anybody else a little bit weirded out that Spirit Shards, a TBC currency, are worth 40 times a current Honor Point? I wonder how they came up with that ratio.
Zerp Sep 15th 2010 7:39PM
for the love of god need heirloom prices with JP system. Need to know whether to cash in now and buy gear or wait.

Remember when you only needed an advanced math degree when you were an enhancement shaman?

Here's the bit I despise about this.
I hit 80 on my main around March and have been steadily gearing and progressing ever since. I am now 1 item short of my full T10 set and I have 87 frosties.
Now based on the conversion rates being posted - because triumps and frosts are merging, I will need a LOT of the new emblems to get to buy it.
Now I am 8 frosties away from my target if I put in enough effort I ought to get to be able to get it and buy it before patch day (if that is indeed as I am now guessing next Wednesday for me). But if I am one or two short on the day... suddenly it means weeks more farming to get the remaining emblems now ?
Oh well - I got an ICC10 progression run busy happening, I will be sure to get both VOA's done tonight and get an ICC25 going as well.

Does anyone know what is happening with the new heirloom items yet? Have they been implemented on the PTR and if so, how muc do they cost?
Peternaame Sep 16th 2010 4:38PM
Hmm, does this mean that if i have 4000 emblems of triumph, i will be able to convert til i reach cap, use the points, then cap it again and again until my EoT:s is all used up ?
Diana Sep 16th 2010 12:38PM
What I want to know is the cost of the heirloom gear after the 4.01 patch? I was wanting to buy a few more pieces for the new worgan and goblin I'll be making in Cata. So knowing if I should convert emblems now to buy or waiting for the conversion would be a great thing for me.

I don't need any more frost emblem gear, and I'm pretty well set up on gold for going in to Cata. I know more gold is always better going into a new xpac, but gems and even primordial prices are going through the floor on my server atm.
Given those facts, I think I'll just sit on my current badges, let them convert, and have a very small head start on accumulating JP for level 85 gear.
I just wish I knew what that gear was, and how much it costs...

Here's some math I did:
If I'm a fresh 80 and do only weekly/daily heroics then it would take me 5 weeks to earn 95 Frost badges for the legs/head/chest (2 X 7 + 5 = 19; 19 X 5 = 95).
With this conversion, if I'm a fresh 80, and if the daily heroic truly gets you 27 JPs, and not knowing exactly what the weekly earns you, I think we'll still be okay
27 X 7 = 189 JPs per week just from daily heroics.
Assume that the weekly will earn you at least 27 JPs (will probably earn you more)
Total = 216 per week (minimum).
216 X 5 = 1080 ... so a little after 5 weeks, you should be able to get the same T10 piece.
Only difference is that previously, you would also have earned 130 Triumph badges in those same 5 weeks (assuming 5 Triumph badges from the weekly and 3 Triumph badges every day from the daily heroic). Of course, I have assumed that the weekly only gets you 27 JC, when it might be much more, in which case it'll come out in a wash or close to it.
Maybe the Don't Panic picture should have been on this post :-)
thilithedruid Sep 16th 2010 5:03PM
Of course, the math above applies to a fresh 80 with no existing badges.
Agree with all the posters above who said that the conversion rate of existing Frost badges stinks, and that it would be wise to spend them before the patch if possible.
