I'm not sure how I missed this video for so long, considering my unending devotion to the Greyfoo. Maybe it was the video's lack of belf rap; I'm not sure. But No Place Like Gnome is some fantastic singing, lyrics and machinima to help you stay excited about Operation: Gnomeregan. This is going to be a favorite video to go back and stare at after Cataclysm, to remind ourselves of what those old, glorious Alliance cities used to look like.
As tipster Matt points out, this is probably Greyfoo's most visually stunning video. While the Greyfoo is not always as prolific as many other movie makers, I appreciate the patience, time and quality he puts into his original work. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
Same here. All my 80s are Ally and all my twinks are Hordie. Being asked to pick a side would be like being asked to pick a favorite child. Both sides are just so rich in lore and I love certain character models on both sides.
Eh...I prefer my WoW videos to be either dramatic or comedic. This felt too much like an indie movie for my tastes (not saying it's bad, just didn't do it for me).
Not sure how I missed that one either! I really liked it, though I wish it was subtitled - I had a hard time understanding the words in several places. Still got the sentiment, though.
Sweet baby James... I have to take a moment to comment on this. Amazing find, Mr. Michael Gray; thank you for sharing it.
Most WoW videos, particularly the original music videos I have seen, strike me as generally wince-worthy. I don't criticize aloud because people put their hearts into these, but so often the voice work is grating, the technical aspects overblown and the general effect is to frazzle the nerves and dampen the spirit. The rhymes fail, the jokes are juvenile and they simply don't do it for me. *
But this? This a refreshing breeze of sweet perfection. The technical aspects (pacing, transitions, sprite effects, etc.) were handled professionally and were all appropriate to the story rather than being flashily present for their own sake. The voice work sounded -- well, like a grown up was singing, for one thing, which is a nice change of pace. :-)
I could go on, but the point is that No Place Like Gnome is lovely work. I think I'll play it in the background for a time while I work and imagine Art Garfunkel has discovered the World of Warcraft and decided to balladeer his way through the game.
Great work, Greyfoo! Thanks for this. And thanks for all the cool stuff you find for us, MC M.G.. That is your handle in the capacity of WoW video critic, right?
* Am I a hypocritical grump if I make exceptions for loony delights like the first few NubTales or the How to Paladin series? Yeah, probably. That's okay. Guess that's where personal preference comes in, so my own subjectivity is one reason I try not to be too harsh on the ones I don't like.
The thing about How To Paladin is, it's *intentionally* wince-worthy, which puts it a cut above most WoW movie that are wince-worthy when they're not trying. It's glorious self-parody...
Great singing, great machinima. Gnomeregan FTW! I was a little suprised not to see the Exodar get a cameo, but I'll forgive GreyFoo for that since he did make Exodar Disco.

Wow. That was pretty special. Thanks Michael!

Wow. That gave me shivers. I really wish I had a 75 alliance toon so I could help back Gnomer... (I'm primarily Horde, but definitely bi-factional :P)

I loved it. As Gnomes are by far my favorite class to play, I am grateful that there is finally some appreciation rather than the usual kicking.

LOL, so did I. I claimed to have never seen this artist and then I'm watching the videos and there's that one that was SO fun!
Meadow Sep 16th 2010 1:15PM
Oh that was really cool! I heart Grayfoo.

I was wondering why this hadn't been up yet. This one is definitely my favorite so far. As always Grey, we love you and can't wait for more!!!

I loved it. It was so pleasant to listen to and watch. I cannot wait to roll a Gnome come Cataclysm and set out in their own starting area!

IIRC, Grey wrote this song back in Vanilla WoW, when there was no such place as the Exodar.

I'm amazed that I completlely missed out on this artist? How did this happen. I LOVED this. It was so creative on just about every level.
I have to go and watch all of his other vids now. After work... maybe ;)
