Around Azeroth: With no particular place to go
As any denizen of an RP server knows, when another battlegroup goes down, the naked level 1s come out to play. And sometimes their idea of play is strange indeed. Altaic of <The Remnant> on Aggramar (US-H) recently visited roleplaying stronghold Moon Guard during one of these invasions. While taking pictures of all the "nonsense and vulgarity" in Goldshire, he stumbled upon this inexplicable scene. (By the way, nice armory pose there.)

Is this what an Azerothian stag party would look like?

Now where did I keep my brain bleach again?

One guild was upset about this behavior on Moon Guard and destroyed it.

must. do. this.

Was this video serious? So the guild promotes hate crimes basically. You don't like it, then why were you there if you know what goes on there? You went to a place that was notorious for that behavior and expected everyone to just stop because you have a stick up your @zz? Parents should be aware of any online activity of their children. The Internet and WoW is not a babysitter.

Hate crimes? I don't think he was preaching anti-homosexualness more than the general "anti-ERP". I find the video hilarious. This isn't like they locked down a major city with an unkillable boss like Kazzak, it was simply Goldshire. And people taking a stand against something that so many hate.
But I agree with cutaia below. The video goes on for far too long. They don't need to show all of the kiting.
Drakkenfyre Sep 17th 2010 2:16PM
Let me say, I am talking about the video posted above. If someone else posted a link condoning hate crimes, I didn't see it.

The question is, if it was a female toon rather than a male doing the "squatting", would they have considered it to merit the same reaction? The distinction is whether they perceive themselves to be punishing sexual behavior in general, or homosexual behavior specifically.
If people are prudish, that's fine. But be prudish about everything, or nothing. To say that a public sex act is perfectly OK when it's done by one set of people, but perversion when it's done by another set of people, is hypocritical. Simulated sex is simulated sex; which orifice you pick isn't the dividing line.

Given that they don't kite anything down into the basement, I'm going to say it was a general attack on ERP-freaks.
Eco Sep 17th 2010 3:45PM
I guess I just got a little fired up. I don't partake in the activity, but don't care for pursuits to limit what others do in game then advertise it on youtube. Everyone pays the fee to play, and as long as it is not against any policies who am I to go in and stop people from playing the way they want to. Freaks or not.
Drakkenfyre Sep 17th 2010 4:16PM
I would say it was to everyone.
See how they describe the inn as being filled with, well, whatever list of descriptions they used. It wasn't just "gays" or anything like that. They also yelled out "whores!" several times after the kiting, such as "all you whores are going to pay", or something like that.
I don't think it was to gays in general. They just wanted to wipe out the entire inn.
Dreamfall Sep 17th 2010 10:00PM
Looks to me like a video of an entire guild throwing a temper tantrum because their FIRST attempt at griefing got ignored.

I think the age ratings on WoW need to be revised..
Trinea Sep 17th 2010 10:24AM
Yeah, like Moon Guard needs more bad publicity. Thanks a lot, WoW Insider. -_-
It'd help a bunch if, you know...maybe the Blizzard GMs did what they said they were gonna do in the last post you made about the server (http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/08/04/blizzard-to-patrol-moon-guards-goldshire-for-harassment-erotic/)-- which, thanks again, brought TONS more off-server alts just like the jerk that took that screenshot-- we wouldn't have this problem. Check the official forums. There's no one on Moon Guard that's made it their real home that actually LIKES Goldshire and the trash that goes on there.
Ikatsu Sep 17th 2010 10:54AM
I got 9 characters on moon guard and I must say, goldshire is fun at times.
For example, I once took my priest there, who also happened to be a tailor, and started to offer my tailoring services to naked people...
needless to say, most naked people wanted to stay naked, but it was funny as hell.
I did manage to sell a shirt for a shirtless gnome who kept jumping and running around with his new shirt, which made me pretty proud of myself, he went from shirtless anoying jumping flea to a badass shirted jumping gnome!

I'M GOING TO COMMENT ON THAT VIDEO!
So, uh...
SERIOUSLY! IT'S COMING! PREPARE FOR A COMMENT!
Nice video but
THIS IS IT! THE COMMENT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN!!!
I think they need a better video editor. :P
Seriously folks...start that video about 11 minutes in. You'll still get the point and will save yourself a lot of wasted time.

Moon Guard is my primary server, but Goldshire's reputation there doesn't bother me. There are plenty of other places, and entire world, even, to roleplay in. As Ikatsu pointed out, sometimes it's fun to incorporate the trolls into a roleplaying situation. They expect you to get angry, not to keep calm and carry on.
When people are making fun of MG's Goldshire, unless they say "Haha, ERP is Trinea's fault!" They aren't accusing you of being complicit in the acts going on there. They're making fun of the trolls and ERPers who, for some reason, decide to emote their every heave-ho. Don't take it personally, that will only cause stress to build up.

I've been increasingly bad at replying to the wrong comment recently. I blame Joystiq.
Trinea Sep 17th 2010 11:28AM
@ Matt P.- Heh. Well, Alliance-side ERP problems certainly aren't my fault, since I don't even play there. I'm in no way stressed out about the state of Goldshire whatsoever. The point I was trying to get at-- and perhaps it was lost in rant-- is that continuously posting about how the server's all about ERP and trolls and nothing else is doing a disservice to the rest of the community.
The truly fortunate part for me, at least, is that when idiots decide to come to the server to troll, they always do it to see the infamous Goldshire, and therefore I don't have to deal with them at all.
Most of my own personal mild irritation is the fact that we as a server hardly ever get any -good- publicity. All it's ever about is the ERP, and honestly? There's far more to Moon Guard than that. I've met some incredibly talented roleplayers and some of my greatest friends through this server.

You know, it's a shame about the goldshire reputation. I play on argent dawn, and I've gone to goldshire a lot on my main in an rp context. Yes, there are plenty of shenanigans that go on in the inn with naked belf women dancing on tabletops and other assorted erp-esq goings on, and yeah, there is a ridiculous amount of dueling going on outside. BUT, irl there are "not so nice" bars that you can slum it in, and I'm kind of glad there is a place like that on AD. I've had lots of fun in goldshire, using it as a meeting place to just goof off with my friends, having little pvp skirmishes back by the lake with different horde members who come through and yeah, one drunken night, getting the entire inn to basically have a giant dance party when I jumped up on the table in nothing but my Exodar tabard /yelling "can I join the gothic sisterhood now???" and convincing people to jump up and dance with me. (vodka and redbull at the bar, and coming home to play wow...never again :P)
As a matter of fact, my current leveling partner, a priest who heals my retardin through various adventures, was someone I met in goldshire during a pvp skirmish. He was on his Tauren dk, and my hunter has a little bit of a soft spot for tauren men (it's the mutual hooves - she's a Draenei) and started flirting with him, crying over his corpse, cheering his victories and such. He played along as a shy Tauren, /blushing and such, and so I popped over to my horde toon later to thank him for being a good sport and such. We wound up striking up a conversation and became good friends since.
So yeah, goldshire is one of those places, like a bar on the wrong side of town, where you can either be disgusted by the trashy women and the violence or you can relax, let your hair down, ignore the worst parts and have a little fun.
