Breakfast Topic: Have you visited any old friends lately?

It's September, and we're still waiting on Deathwing to give Azeroth a makeover (especially Desolace -- I don't know anyone who has ever had anything good to say about that zone). While Deathwing has said many times he's going to make an appearance in 2010, he has yet to say when he's coming. So for now, we're left hanging out with Arthas. I've spent more than enough time with Arthas. All he ever talks about is how cold his frozen throne is, how nobody comes to visit and when they do they bring that jerk Tirion along.
One day, I finally got tired of hanging around Arthas and decided to visit some old friends. I went to say hi to Hakkar, but he was still bitter that I took his heart, so I said my goodbyes and left. After visiting Hakkar, I went to the Molten Core; that was a very bad idea. Apparently, the Core Hounds think dwarves are a snack no matter what level they are.
After running back to my body and forcing my turtle to distract the corehounds so I could get away, I decided to visit my good friends in Shattrath. That was also a bad idea. I waved at A'dal, and as I turned to walk away, he invaded my mind and started complaining about Kael'thas. I guess people are going back to kill Kael just for laughs, so he in turns appears in Shattrath to taunt A'dal. He was also complaining about how the new adventurers refuse to help him or anyone else in the city.
You know what? Forget it. I'm done being nice. I'm not going to visit anyone else. Let me know when Deathwing comes. I'll be at the Ironforge inn with my cat. At least she doesn't hold a grudge when I leave her at the stable master ...
What about you? What old friends have you called on recently, in the slow weeks before Cataclysm?

I visit Ragnaros, Bloodlord Mandokir, and The'kal on a weekly basis.

These days there's not much to do in WoW, I don't have time to raid so I've been rep grinding with factions that may go away. I got The Argent Champion on my hunter and quite enjoyed grinding Stratholme, although I got no horse. I'm planning on doing Timbermaw Hold next.

If you do Timbermaw in Feralas, remember to keep the dropped feathers to turn in AFTER you hit revered. If you're revered, the kills won't get you any rep-points, only the repeatable feather-quest does ...

You meant Felwood :)
Otherwise good tip ;)

Hmm. Well, after reading up on Zin'rokh, I've decided I might pay Hakkar a visit or two on my dk/pala to see if I might get the original.
In, fact, I think I'll do that right now.
Cya. ;P

I've been working on getting different achievements and rep, since I'm a fairly casual player and don't feel I am properly geared for endgame content. I've found myself running Scholomance a whole bunch of times for rep, and it was actually fun to do it at a more laid back pace and enjoy the work that went into giving it that haunted mansion feel. I've also started adding the Outland fishing quests to my dailies and finally caught Mr. Pinchy and got my pet!

I like current Desolace! Blizzard have captured the "feel" of the zone really well, IMO.
On topic, I've been doing MC a bit lately. I got Benediction on my Priest, and i'm working on my 'lock T1.

With nothing more to do on my main, I finally took a DK past level 60 (yeah, I hadn't done it yet, wanna fight about it?). Going back through the BC content, I was surprised to find myself feeling nostalgic and happy to meet old friends. Nobody ever talks about the Sporelings anymore, remember them? Those little dudes just LOVE mushrooms.

The Desolace is great!
Sure STV has the quest rewards and the beautiful scenery but the Desolace.. I often take my alts through the zone, do a bit of Mara if possible.
What I love about the zone? The world PvP. I don't park my main there, I don't know anyone who would and that works so well. Good, solid, evenly matched world PvP. I also like the coastline and the lighthouse type structure very much.

My DK has been visiting her old friend Baron Rivendare. Over... and over... and over again. Stubborn jerk still won't let her use his mount. ^_^

I am actually leveling my first Horde toon in earnest. I'm not doing the dungeon thing. Wanna see the quests and FP's and such. Its ok. First warrior too so spanking the pants off stuff is good times.

I said hello to Prince Whatshisface in Karazhan a few times, but he's still all "BLAH BLAH BLAH TAKE OVER THIS KILL THAT ETC ETC".
... Actually, I never pay attention to what he says so I'm not sure that's what he actually says, but for some reason he keeps hitting me whenever I come over so I presume it's normal angry demon stuff.
What a jerk.

I like desolace, its usually empty, the questing is fairly well set out, at least in comparission to the other zones of the same level, and its a bit different scenery.
Good zone imo.

On my regular visits to Zul Gurub Thekal finally decided to give me his mount. I bet he did it just to get rid of me. We are not that close really and our tea-parties are often quite awkward. The Zealots get jealous pretty fast and then the backstabbing starts. I'm glad I don't have to visit him anymore.
Mandokir on the other hand is a cool chap. He loves to watch me and I like his twirly dances. His pet is a bit snappy but I'm still hoping Mandokir will send him to me when he has to move to a no pet policy condo when Zul Gurub gets vacated.
Onyxia only throws parties lately and doesn't want to receive me when I visit her alone. And if I dare to sneak in anyway her bouncer shows me the door immediatly.
Attumen is a bit full of himself, but on the other hand, he lives in a stable so I'm doing him a favor to visit him once in a while.
I got quite the friends...

I did the rep grind and got the Nether Ray mount (and cute little pet) for my dwarf hunter. I wanted it for her since BC, but somehow never got it done. Now I can do the Winter's Veil achievement this year too!
Been leveling my rogue, got her to 60. Visited Sunken Temple with my lvl 50s mage, still hate that place. I always get lost. Also will be working on Argent Dawn rep for my rogue and my lvl 80 DK. Only two of my lvl 80 characters are well geared, so I'm visiting the heroic bosses to gear up the others for Cataclysm.
AT level 40 my mage and my son's lvl 40 lock visited that big demon Lord Azrethoc in Desolace, where my son enslaved him to use to bash on some centaurs. I'm sure that demon will go away after Cataclysm, but he has been a favorite punching bag for us for years.
I also need to go back and /slap Tapoke "Slim" Jahn with all the toons that did the Missing Diplomat quest line. He was so annoying that I slap him every time I'm there, just as a matter of course. Maybe I'll run out and slap Private Hendel for good measure.

Congrats on the Ray! That's the only flier I use anymore, because a) it's freakin' cool, and b) it feels really original. I still get tells all the time asking how I got it... apparently the post-BC crowd never got to meet the Skyguard (not surprising, since it's a level 70 thing and they're heading to Northrend at 68), and the pre-BC crowd are too busy showing off the "leetness" of their godly PvP wyrms or hardmode-raid protos.
I hope you enjoy it! ^_^
MW Sep 18th 2010 10:35AM
@Swifteye Thanks for the congrats, and I am enjoying the ray. The other day in WG another player on their identical Ray flew beside me as I hovered over the fortress, it was very cool looking.
Is that the only flying mount that does not have a ground movement? If so, it makes it even more unique.
Swifteye Sep 18th 2010 10:52AM
Off the top of my head, I do not believe the dragonhawks have a running animation, either... but that's all I can think of, and they're also pretty dang rare. So yeah, I would definitely say that adds to the rays' originality. ^^
Vorenos Sep 19th 2010 7:43PM
The engineer roflcopters don't "walk, either
Swifteye Sep 18th 2010 10:25AM
I spend as much time with Cairne Bloodhoof as I can while I'm still able. :(
I also make sure to /salute and /cheer the WG crowd (Murp, Dardosh, Kilrath, etc.) whenever I see them... I'm spending more and more time in WG lately, participating in as many battles as I can and farming Eternals in the meantime. Of course they'll presumably still BE there come Cata (unlike poor Cairne), but there'll be no reason to go anymore......
