Cataclysm Beta: Worgen are their own mounts? [Update: Confirmed!]

There have been a lot of people anxiously awaiting the arrival of worgen mounts on the beta. Goblins have had their mounts for a little while now, and most people are still curious what the worgen mounts will even look like. With some of the information mined out of the most recent beta build, it looks like a worgen mount will end up being the worgen themselves.
A new racial ability called Running Wild has been added for worgen, with a 1.5-second cast time that adds the "mounted" aura to the player. The description says, "Drop to all fours to run as fast as a wild animal." However, worgen already have their own version of Sprint called Darkflight, which gives them a temporary speed boost, but this new racial implies mounted speeds.
If this is true, then it will mean different things for different groups. For worgen druids, you never have a reason to buy a mount of any type now. For those Alliance players out there, this might mean a lack of worgen racial mounts, which will probably be compensated elsewhere to keep the number of mounts equal between Horde and Alliance. For tauren players, yes, someone else appears to be getting Plainsrunning before you.

Actually, a multi-person open carriage as a mount would look pretty awesome in Victorian Gilneas attire.

I think something like this should be a new money sink, similar to how the traveler's tundra mount was in Wrath. I think it should carry three people, the main person sitting up front, controlling the carriage, while the two other people sit inside, on top, or in back. I think this would be amazing! A beautiful Gilnean type carriage. And, of course Horde could have something similar, some sort of cool Goblin carriage.

I'm pretty ok with this, it makes sense that the Worgen would be able to do this in their transformed forms and it really doesn't make sense that they'd be able to "Mount" in their Worgen forms, so this works out just fine. I'd picture something like:
- All other mounts (particularly Horses): Required to be in Human Form;
- Feral Self-Mount: Required to be in Worgen Form;

This got me thinking... Someone at Blizz must've got the idea the animated Transformers movie, the scene where Wreckgar and and his Junkyard brethren were fighting and were switching places as the rider and the vehicle...
Joerendous Sep 18th 2010 7:51PM
That, or they could have gotten it from wolves.

@Joerendous
LOL.. I've never laughed so hard in my life. Well played.

Is it meant to be a mount buff, or could it be like a shaman ghost wolf whist still having a mount available to them? Because the post doesn't say that this is going to increase speed at 60% or 100% like all other mounts and druid flight forms do.
Drakkenfyre Sep 18th 2010 8:02PM
Speed is now controlled by your highest trained skill. If you have 100% trained, you go 100%. If you have 280% flying trained, your flyers go 280%.
It probably gets the speed from that.

You're not seriously implying that worgen can not only run like the wind, but also flyyyy? :P
Grovinofdarkhour Sep 18th 2010 7:41PM
And it's gonna be used the same way Plainsrunning was, too: as a band-aid until they come up with a better solution. The inevitability of the worgen population eventually turning into a cacaphony of "Dude, where's our mounts" will become unignorable. In the end, this is likely just to buy them time.

Sounds more like your jealous. It is a fantastic idea, because really what could worgen ride without looking silly. Nothing in Gilneas screams RIDE ME WOLFMAN! Horses are for the stormwind humans, and this will work just fine seeing as it functions exactly as mounts do anyway. 1.5 sec cast, can only be used outside combat, and applies an aura like all other mounts. Exactly what Plainstriding was NOT.
As for mount faction balancing, it will all be worked out in some other fashion. Blizzard has a way of always coming out with a fix.
Shnissigah Sep 18th 2010 11:55PM
Nothing in Gilneas? Man, the women there must all be lesbians...
Grovinofdarkhour Sep 19th 2010 1:14AM
LOL, jealousy doesn't make sense. I've had a slot set aside for my eventual worgen for months, just like everyone else. The fact is, sure it sounds neat now, and we can all talk about how cool it sounds now until we're blue in the face, but mark my words, less than a year from now, worgen players collectively will sound just like tauren players sounded three years ago - like they feel jipped, and demand "real" mounts like everyone else.
Sarku Sep 18th 2010 7:43PM
This is cool and all, but wouldn't it put Alliance players at a disadvantage when it comes to the Mountain o' Mounts achievement?
I know the achievement itself isn't very hard (it only gets easier after time), but it just goes against their recent efforts of balancing the faction mount ratio.
Jonsi Sep 18th 2010 7:52PM
Not that i care too much, but i'm sure blizzard will add an exclusive alliance mount somewhere.
peon47 Sep 18th 2010 10:06PM
Just add a couple more horses, rams, cats, mechanostriders and elekks.
Brunnstag Sep 18th 2010 7:48PM
This is the most disappointing thing I've heard in a long time- even more so than the fact that I'll likely never have the Zul'Gurub mounts. I was desperperately excited about the boar mounts that were hinted at. I wanted to ride on boars SO BAD. And now the mount count will be badly unbalanced again...
Sneaksy Sep 18th 2010 7:56PM
Why? The boar mount would just be a contrivance as its existence is not even hinted at in any of the Gilneas quests. Besides, it would look completely silly seeing a badass Worgen lopping around on a mutated boar.
Like I said above, Blizzard isn't retarded. Balancing out the mount count is stupidly easy and the lack of mounts won't necessarily be world-shattering in this expansion either - no pun intended.
Sayce Sep 18th 2010 8:04PM
I think a lot of mounts are contrivances anyways... Hawkstriders? Elekks? Horses and Skeletal horses exist in the game ONLY as mounts, not as any "quest" references.
Brunnstag Sep 18th 2010 8:13PM
Well, aside from the beta not being completed yet, or all the quest chains, I don't think arguing lore reasons is valid at this point. There are boars in game, and making them mounts is possible. Personally, I thought boar mounts would be cool. My main is a dwarf and being able to ride an armored boar would look totally sweet.
And besides that, I'm not saying it's earth shattering, I'm saying it's lame. I was looking forward to another set of faction mounts to add to my collection. I know it's really easy to just toss in a couple dragons here, or a few wolves there. But I wanted some mounts to show I put in the effort of getting to exalted with Gilneas. And personally I think it'll look pretty silly seeing a massive armored wolfman trying to run around on all fours wearing armor and giant shoulder pieces that would at least partially inhibit movement and vision.
