WRUP: Wherein Gregg Reece battles a hydra

Boldly, they strode into the lands below the mountain. As always, Ziebart the Incalculable, Holisky the Unrepentant and Sacco the Mellifluous led them, bolstered by DanO and his prodigious wisdom. Still, trepidation was their companion. Even with stout companions all alongside them, the danger was great. Dank and steaming, the fetid air rose from their destination, redolent with the reeking exhalations of their intended prey.
"Quickly now," barked dread Ziebart. "What are your plans for the weekend?"
The belimed walls of the cavern shook with the thunderous roar of the behemoth monstrosity, lurching from its ancient slumber.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) Writing like mad, maybe playing a little beta, doing that whole birthday thing. Maybe I will get cake -- who knows? Stranger things have happened.
Basil Berntsen (@outdps) Day job, all weekend. It's end of quarter in IT Land, and that apparently means that every project has to be shipped by the end of month. Yay.
Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) I'll be playing Recettear, an amazingly addictive game in which you play an RPG item shop owner working hard to pay off her father's debts in the name of capitalism and yayness. (It is on Steam and it is fun; you should get it, you guys.) If I can tear myself away from that, I will also be running the suicide mission on my faithful to Liara playthrough of Mass Effect 2 so I can see how that plays out in Lair of the Shadow Broker. Oh yeah, and maybe I might do some WoW in there somewhere.
Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) I'll be catching up on work, recording another episode of the Circle of Healing podcast, and going to a local Super Street Fighter 4 tournament.
"Hold fast, heroes!" Gregg of the Reece line met a thunderous smash of the creature's diamond-shaped snout with his shield, its acid-smeared fangs scraping the metal and ebon wood. "This day, no squamous foe dares stand against us! For WoW Insider!" His left arm was a blur as he blocked several heads in turn. "I'm going to be out of the house for most of the weekend, but when I am home I hope to do my Choose My Adventure for the week as well as some beta time."
The caustic vapors of the hissing maws of the beast burst forth and washed over him in a wave of flesh-searing death.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) This is my final free weekend without the burden of a Civ 5 obsession, so I'm trying to make it count. Sunday is the day with the most promise -- I'm headed to Six Flags New England for a low-key guild meetup.
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) I'm still getting over the fact that I'm back to reality and chugging along with errands and cooking and stuff. Oy. Writing, maybe a little WoW, and plenty of soups and salads to detox off of all the crazy amount of food we ate.
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) Going to my grandmother's birthday party on Saturday, heavy draft work on Tuesday's Shifting, and more 5-mans on the beta. I've been healing most of my runs, and I'm probably going to switch over to more tanking and DPS to balance things out, although the continuing feral damage bug makes that a little tough.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) Everything related to comics! A comic book launch, Vancouver's Comic Jam (bunch of artists get together, drink a few beers and draw), then working on my own two. Hoping to get some more beta done this weekend? Hopefully? Question mark?
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) The new Kingdom Hearts for the PSP and Final Fantasy IX, and in the extremely unlikely event that Duke beats Alabama Saturday, the game of picking up drunk students all weekend.
Rich Maloy (@stoneybaby) Friday night, I'm throwing a party for the NYC WoW Meetup group for the launch of Season 2 of Big Crits. After that I'll be working on getting some new things within the guild started and quite possibly sleep cameling Sunday morning.
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) Civ 4: Beyond the Sword, Words with Friends, and of course as much WoW as possible -- mostly beta. Oh, and The Spousal Unit and I will be watching Mad Men season 2 while drinking old fashioneds, using Alex's recipe.
"Creature of the Cthonic earth, I abjure thee!' bellowed Joe Perez (@Lodurzj) as a wave of healing power poured in verdant light from his fingertips, washing over Gregg and sealing his wounds. "Shield of the stones, be an aegis of mountain strength, bear his wounds!"
Even as Reece's flesh knit together, Perez spoke an even greater incantation: "Running instances on the PTR to see how things are shaping up. Spending a lot of time writing and capturing tons of video, and looking for a new portable hard drive, since mine is on its last legs. Oh, and I'm going to be baking with my little sister and making some gaming-related confectionery treats!"
C.Christian Moore (@TheArenaGuy) I'm going to be playing some Cataclysm beta; currently have a hunter that's approaching 85. Focus is pretty sweet. Other than that, just studying a lot. I'm also going to take the wife out on a nice date. We might see Inception, we don't see many movies in theaters, but I heard it's pretty fantastic, so I'm going to give it a shot.
Finally, the beast shuddered in undeniable agony as Matthew Rossi (@matthewwrossi) drove his blade, carved with an elaborate beard motif, into its breast. "I'm going to take it easy this weekend, because I have a cold."

If WRUP isn't like this every week, I'm going to be disappointed.
Gregg Reece Sep 18th 2010 3:49PM
I... I... I don't even have the words. This was a surprise to me (but then again, I'm bad at checking my email).

Possibly the most epic WRUP yet.

Also, if I may add, "carved with an elaborate beard motif" was perfect.

no way fox, I literally just came home from 6 flags new england today. I was one day to early URG
Mo Sep 18th 2010 2:43PM
Wait wait wait.... NONE of you are going to be playing Reach?!?!
Janaan Sep 18th 2010 3:33PM
Mo is correct, there has to be AT LEAST one of the WoW.com staff who plays XBox. And if you play XBox, then there's really nothing else to be doing right now gaming-wise. I played Reach the other day at a friend's house, and it really was pretty awesome.
Alex Ziebart Sep 18th 2010 3:48PM
I own an XBox, but I don't use it.
Ever.
Mygirlsguns Sep 19th 2010 10:23AM
Becuase you do a 360 and walk away.
Darky Sep 19th 2010 2:49AM
Us XBox users are so hated by all other players; just like how WoW is thought of as life sucking. >_

THE CAKE IS A LIE!
Darky Sep 19th 2010 2:54AM
Yeah well I eat lies for dessert.
Touphemia Sep 18th 2010 3:26PM
Capitalism, ho!
+15 points for Recettearing.

Saturday is close to an end over here in Scotland, but tomorrow I'll hopefully push my main through Dragonblight into Zul'Drak, for Wrathgate and Drakuru chains. Tonight it's indian meal and fruit cider night!
