"Return to Graveyard" button appears in latest Cataclysm beta build

"No problem," you think. "I'll simply run back to my corpse!" And so you try. But ... you can't find it. I mean, it's there somewhere, but you're on the wrong side of a moat, and ... well, you've never been here before. Wait, this doesn't look familiar at all ... I mean, it sorta looks familiar but ... it's different. You think you've seen that tree before but ... no, wait, it looks exactly like all the other trees around here. And ... dammit, your ghost just fell into this deep trench. Crap. You're nowhere near your corpse or the Spirit Healer. How the hell are you going to get out of this?
The answer: The brand new Return to Graveyard button. It's a new feature in the latest beta build, and it does exactly what you think it does.
It's a simple convenience, yes, but these simple conveniences are turning into the best parts about Cataclysm. Being able to track multiple things on your minimap. Being able to fly anywhere. Being told when a new ability is available at your trainer (and what it is). The Return to Graveyard button is just another in a long and growing list of features that make you smack your forehead and think, "We played this game for six damn years without this?"

Kewl!
And I ahve to agree - small things matter a lot! Like the new raid frames :)

I agree. The small things make all the difference. It's like the pet/mount tabs. It's one of those things that once we had them, it was difficult to imagine how we ever lived without them. I've said it before and I'll say it again, polish is rarely unappreciated. These may be small fries, but they eventually pile up into a mountain of deliciousness~!

Oh thank god. This is another little inconvenience that will only exist in the past when cata hits. :D
Darky Sep 19th 2010 4:41AM
Also i think that everyone should get a ghost gryphon now that the landscape has been fixed for flight.

I've always thought that your transportation in the spirit world should scale with your mount training, at least.
Hey, maybe groups splitting up after a Maraudon wipe because everybody got lost on the way back will be marginally less intolerable now.

About time this was put in.
I suggested long ago that clicking on your Hearthstone when you are dead returned you to the nearest graveyard. Even if it reset the cooldown.
It was ridiculous getting stuck somewhere when you were dead, and not in a party, and had to put in a ticket to get unstuck.
Or in the case of some runbacks, completely lost. It sucked when you ran back, and were on the other side of a mountain from the graveyard, or had fallen down into something you couldn't get out of.

I've died more than a few times on the boundary between Wintergrasp and Dragonblight.... turns out when you die up there, you res in Dragonblight, and there is absolutely no way to get back to your body. I tried for an hour once to wall-jump, I tried finding a path, I tried smashing my face into the keyboard. No luck.
At least now if this happens, I can port back to the graveyard, instead of having to suffer the additional pain of running back to the spirit healer to accept my res sickness and durability hit.

Yeah, but there goes another prank. I recall a time a friend ended up with their corpse in Winterspring and their ghost in the sea north of Azshara....

I don't get it. So it's like a hearthstone for your ghost, except instead of going to an inn, it sends you right back to the Spirit Healer? I guess that'd be convenient if you spend 20 min trying to get to your body and decide you wanna spirit rez instead. If that's what it is, very nice.
Darky Sep 19th 2010 4:43AM
Thats exactly it; just re-read the mid section of the article and it should be pretty clear.

Agreed, this is going to be very useful, especially for new players - I have fond memories of running round Tirisfal Glades for hours as a ghost on my first Undead Mage, before I figured out how to use the mini map.
Muse Sep 19th 2010 4:50AM
And hunter pets' "go to". It's these nice little details that do it.
And seriously, who, in their entire WoW career, has not gotten lost at one point or another? (although granted, back when I started playing, graveyards were a lot less common than they are now. when there were additional ones added, there were additional ones added a LOT)
Brune Sep 19th 2010 5:11AM
This already exists (sort of). When dead, go to 'help' then autounstuck. Tada.

Wow, best post on wow.joystick.com so far. :)

*insert frothing rage about giving in to casuals and the ruination of the game*

My first room I ever made 5.5 years ago, the first time I died in westfall I couldn't figure out how to get back to my corpse so I got so frustrated I went to another server and started all over again.
This button will be a godsend to the new players. Happy hunting
Pam Sep 19th 2010 8:56AM

Finding my way back to a graveyard has seldom been the problem. Finding my way to the dungeon, now that has been an issue. Then sometimes it is a question of which entrance is it the left or the right? Frustrating if the party can't/won't help or boots you because of it. Sure the arrow points to where your body is, but it doesn't point to the entrance, which would be more helpful while in a dungeon.
Still, helpful to have this. I remember the first day I played I was playing a Night Elf and I fell out of Teldrassil and died midway down on a branch. I then took my spirit off the edge, missed my body and then spent a long time trying to figure out how to get back to my body. I eventually circled the island/tree passing Rut'theran Village then getting back to the cove where my body was, tried again for a long time until I eventually tried circling around to Rut'theran Village (which I hadn't discovered yet), then found the portal got into Darnassus and eventually found a graveyard.
