"Return to Graveyard" button appears in latest Cataclysm beta build

"No problem," you think. "I'll simply run back to my corpse!" And so you try. But ... you can't find it. I mean, it's there somewhere, but you're on the wrong side of a moat, and ... well, you've never been here before. Wait, this doesn't look familiar at all ... I mean, it sorta looks familiar but ... it's different. You think you've seen that tree before but ... no, wait, it looks exactly like all the other trees around here. And ... dammit, your ghost just fell into this deep trench. Crap. You're nowhere near your corpse or the Spirit Healer. How the hell are you going to get out of this?
The answer: The brand new Return to Graveyard button. It's a new feature in the latest beta build, and it does exactly what you think it does.
It's a simple convenience, yes, but these simple conveniences are turning into the best parts about Cataclysm. Being able to track multiple things on your minimap. Being able to fly anywhere. Being told when a new ability is available at your trainer (and what it is). The Return to Graveyard button is just another in a long and growing list of features that make you smack your forehead and think, "We played this game for six damn years without this?"

That good story of noobdom really makes me nostalgic. Actually, think I did the exact same trick, back in the days :)

Hmm, when you die in a random dungeon there should be a lighted pathway with neon signs that direct the way to the instance door. x)

Haha, I did this on my first night elf too :P
It makes me wonder, from a Lore perspective, how many young night elves lose their lives every year from falling out of their home tree.
Just something to stew on.

I'd imagine that _most_ people who played a N Elf for their first character, had that experience. I know I did!

About time, I still remember when, running to BRD, i felt in a pit in searing gorge.. it took me an half our to get out of there!

Don't get distracted while corpse-running:
"finally made it back to my corpse, now press ressurrect"
*accidently pressing return to graveyard*
"ah crap!"

I'm really thinking Blizzard wants to recruit a lot of casual gamers with Cataclysm.
The first 10 levels have become so easy to play in that even casual gamers like my granny would be able to learn the game.
What does this mean?
More people, less good players.
And after huntards and tardadins, now we're gonna have lots of unable players!
"Heal me!" "Why?" "'Cause I'm tanking" "you're what?" "tanking" "what does it mean? why are those worms so tough?" "'cause you're in Ragefire Chasm, a dungeon" "a what?"
etc.

Ahh it was inevitable; the complaining over an improvement to the game to make it generally more fun and less stressful for new players.

I've never met a gamer, no matter how hardcore, who could beat my grandmother at Dr. Mario. The only reason she doesn't play WoW is because she doesn't know a word of English. (ye, she's that old, she's the generation when English wasn't taught in schools)

Actually, I see a very different version of "THE NEWB OF TOMORROW"
Better starting tooltips will give the new player better control of the character and a deeper understanding of the way the game works.
Simple spell tooltips with basic ideas on when to use them means the players will actually know how to perform their role and should lead to fewer instances of them hitting the worst spells they could (like taunt when they're not a tank)
Lots of spells and bonuses at level 10 means the new player can start to understand how their class plays and how their role works within hours of starting their first character, and it means they actually have the tools to fulfill their roles
As much as it might surprise you no one actually wants to be bad at the game, Blizzard are helping new players be good players with this simplification of the early game, instead of raising a barrier between them and the game. Equally with the end game looking to be a much more difficult affair, with dungeons similar to TBC difficulty you can hardly complain the whole game is becoming EZmode.

You've never, ever gotten lost?
As a brand spanking new player, I had been exploring to my utmost ability, and fell off Teldrassil. I spent a good hour, at least, trying to figure out how I was going to get my body back, as I couldn't really rez at the bottom of Teldrassil.
I've been asked by plenty of newer people to come fly out to BFE to resurrect them, just because they were so engrossed in the game world that they ended up dying in very inconvenient places.
If you've never, ever had a similar issue...I actually feel bad for you, because you obviously didn't go out of your way to just ENJOY the game.
Getting lost can often be inevitable, and sometimes fun for the new player, but it shouldn't be miserable to get back to one or two of the places should you not know the terrain well enough and your spirit ends up in an unfortunate place. Sometimes the graveyard ends up being in a place you haven't yet explored, and it's not the player's fault that they don't know everything in between yet.

Can our ghosts finally face in the direction we need to go?
dlibera Sep 19th 2010 7:43AM
People really have that much trouble getting to their corpses? I can't relate to the need for this at all. I guess I'm lucky?
pancakes Sep 19th 2010 8:32AM
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. 99/100 deaths, you'll get to your body fine, but that one other time, you'll accidentally fall off the seaside cliff in hinterland and have to spend half an hour searching for that one tiny path back up to the top. It's doubly as hard when it's in black & white, trust me.
Nipah Sep 19th 2010 8:00AM
This would've been helpful when I did the little "Heres a parachute, now jump from the twin colossus" bit in Feralas.
*jumps* *hits the cliff side 1/2 way down* *spawns in the graveyard outside of Dire Maul* *runs for 5 minutes to get to my body* *can't get to my body because ITS 1/2 WAY UP A FREAKING MOUNTAIN* *runs for 5 minutes back to the graveyard* *spirit rez*
spinninnzen Sep 19th 2010 8:47AM
This is also good if you got a camper sitting on your bod Or in a mob infested area. Got into a bit o trouble and everytime you rez you get b*tchslapped. Hit the button and rez in a nice safe graveyard
spinninnzen Sep 19th 2010 8:49AM
**caveat** unless they still give you rez sickness even after youve gone to your body then ....damn >.>

Isn't this functionality already in game ?
http://wowprogramming.com/docs/api/RepopMe
It's been a while since I played with that command.
Could be
/script RepopMe();
While dead but it's been a while since I tested exactly how it works.
