"Return to Graveyard" button appears in latest Cataclysm beta build

"No problem," you think. "I'll simply run back to my corpse!" And so you try. But ... you can't find it. I mean, it's there somewhere, but you're on the wrong side of a moat, and ... well, you've never been here before. Wait, this doesn't look familiar at all ... I mean, it sorta looks familiar but ... it's different. You think you've seen that tree before but ... no, wait, it looks exactly like all the other trees around here. And ... dammit, your ghost just fell into this deep trench. Crap. You're nowhere near your corpse or the Spirit Healer. How the hell are you going to get out of this?
The answer: The brand new Return to Graveyard button. It's a new feature in the latest beta build, and it does exactly what you think it does.
It's a simple convenience, yes, but these simple conveniences are turning into the best parts about Cataclysm. Being able to track multiple things on your minimap. Being able to fly anywhere. Being told when a new ability is available at your trainer (and what it is). The Return to Graveyard button is just another in a long and growing list of features that make you smack your forehead and think, "We played this game for six damn years without this?"

And the average player would know that, how?
dantheswan Sep 19th 2010 9:12AM
No lol, I just deleted him one day when lothar was off-line

" But ... you can't find it. I mean, it's there somewhere, but you're on the wrong side of a moat, and ... well, you've never been here before."
And then I opened my map and went "oh, there it is!"
Seriously, this is just a camper escape method, which is completely lame. "Oh, they're camping me, so I'm just going to Spirit Hearth instead of running all the way back".
Jillas Sep 19th 2010 12:36PM
Not really. It returns your SPIRIT to the graveyard, not your body. It's as much a camper escape method as ressing at a spirit healer has always been.
ChaosInc Sep 19th 2010 2:16PM
I didn't say anything about your body returning. I mean it's a lazy tool to go back and spirit rez after walking to find your corpse is camped/inaccessible. As for the latter, if people took a moment to look before releasing they'd save themselves the walk in the first place. But by all means, if you want to support hand-held carebear "make the game easier" crappy like this, more power to you.

Ahhh this is perfect!
Spellbound Sep 19th 2010 9:43AM
RIP corpse camping.

I'm a hordey, so I have that path memorized, but I get your point :)
Bruce Sep 19th 2010 10:43AM
It is probably your browser that isn't remembering it since it is a new domain name...
Lotice Sep 19th 2010 10:43AM
That's how I lost my first character! Ah, I was such a nooblet back then.
Fell off the stonewrought dam and couldn't find my way back to my corpse.
Then couldn't find my way back to the spirit healer.
Deleted him and made a warlock.
VFLEIGH Sep 19th 2010 9:39PM
Yeah, I almost quit WOW after falling off teldrassil as a noob. Found out later the only way to get back to spirit healer is to go out into the ocean and spirit...die. You'll die again from the exhaustion.
ToyChristopher Sep 19th 2010 11:22AM
They are doing so many things to make the game more accessible. Somehow changing the death penalty should be one of them. Players might be more patient in dungeons if dying didn't mean a 10 minute corpse run.
Lageno Sep 19th 2010 1:15PM
About damn time!
atmb82 Sep 19th 2010 2:12PM
I fell about 3-4 times from teldrassil (from the falls, from the border, from a log in the water all the way down) and enjoyed it enough to be actually pleased to have to run all the way back around to the docks to get my corpse back... :)

Now I just need a button to go to a different graveyard . . .
(when I was new I wanted to see how far I could get body hopping . . . unfortunately, I ended up in a zone so high level that when I ressed at my corpse I was dying too fast . . . so I tried ressing at the graveyard . . . and still kept aggroing mobs and dying almost instantly! Darn buzzard . . .
Drahken Sep 19th 2010 5:08PM
Actually you can. If you log out while in ghost form then back in, you're no longer bound to that initial Spirit Healer. So you can revive at any one you want. That's how I get my level 1 toons to Dalaran to set their hearth on their own. Fly to Howling Fjord, get hosed by the first mob out of Vengeance Keep, then run to Crystalsong as a ghost. When you get there, you get a gryphon so you can fly up over Dal. Drop down, find the Spirit Healer (in the garden by the Violet Citadel), log out and in, revive, and BOOM! You're golden.

Well that's super nifty. My very first day playing the game, I got killed and went exploring in ghost form. But I got stuck in the side of a shanty in Stonetalon and I couldn't get out. Nothing worked and I had to petition a GM to get me out. On my first day.
Felix_NZ Sep 19th 2010 5:24PM
I didn't know Goblins could be Holy Pallies now? :p
NecDW4 Sep 19th 2010 11:58PM
Wait, people NEED something like this?
Generally when i'm running to my body, even in unafmiliar territory, simply opening the map, and following the HUD arrow gets the job done. Unless the world is REALLLY screwed i cant see getting so lost that i'd need a button to save me.
iceveiled Sep 20th 2010 1:53PM
Just eliminate ghost runs. Period. It's such an outdated game mechanic at this point. Give us the choice to res at the nearest zone GY.
