Around Azeroth Beta Edition: Slimed!
I just don't know about this quest. I mean, extra experience is always nice, but I just can't shake the feeling that this whole thing is a ploy to get an easy dinner for Horrible Gelatinous Blob over there. Has anyone checked that shack off to his left for piles of bones? (Thanks to Discoboogey of the beta server Gilneas for the screenshot.)

Red exclamation mark?
Kanubis Sep 20th 2010 10:16AM
The Red Mark seems to be a new thing - I came across it somewhere else on beta yesterday. It basically means 'Kill this to start a quest.' It's basically an alternative to picking the quest up from an NPC/Object.

You get an auto-quest after killing one of the slimes to go kill more of those slimes.
Basically Blizzard has been increasing ways to obtain quests in Cataclysm, and the exclamation point tells you that you'll get a quest from killing the mob (as opposed to being asked to go kill the mob or killing the mob and looting an item that starts a quest).

So it's a new kind of quest then? Thanks. I was wondering what that meant.
I had heard rumors of continuing quests which *didn't* require you running all the way back to the quest giver and then back again to where you already were. Is this how they do it?

Amaxe, that's something different again!
When you complete a quest that has an automatic follow-up, you get a pop-up below your mini-map/above the quest tracker. Click it and the quest complete/next quest windows come up.
There's usually a reason why the NPC is able to contact you from afar, from what I've seen so far it's not just randomly put in :)

Aww.. I was hoping that this is a lure. Like some deep sea fish (angler fish etc.) have come up with a lure for hunting their elusive and nutritious deep sea brethren, so I was thinking that in the course of several expansions some WoW mobs have evolved to lure hapless adventurers to their doom with a fake quest sign. That would be especially effective if they could mask their level and make it appear lower. Oh well, here goes my plan for a WoW national geographic series.

I'd guess it's the usual gold quest marker with a green aura.
Sadistic4 Sep 20th 2010 4:20PM
yellow-green=/= red

He's so cute. In a kind of "Imma eat you now" kind of way.
Natsumi Sep 20th 2010 10:35AM
Makes you wish he was a beast so you could tame him on your hunter. :D
Hampster Sep 20th 2010 1:31AM
So this is what happened to the faceless ones' faces.
Shealtiel Sep 20th 2010 10:03AM
I'm also curious about the red exclamation point, but I'm not sure that I buy into the yellow+aura theory. Can anybody in the beta weigh in?
Sunlark Sep 20th 2010 10:18AM
Since when does yellow and green make red, anyways?
Ronin Sep 20th 2010 10:41AM
Exactly! Yellow+Green=Yellow-green! Red is a primary color; you don't get it by combining other colors.
Lugo Sep 20th 2010 11:09AM
Grellow, more precisely.
Noogie Sep 20th 2010 10:17AM
He slimed me!
Sword Sep 20th 2010 10:19AM
My theory is that in cataclym quest difficulty will determine the color of the exclamation points over questgivers. Like Red for very hard, orange for difficult, yellow for normal and green for easy.
Just a theory though...
Natsumi Sep 20th 2010 10:31AM
Incorrect. The red exclamation point replaces quest giving items. It helps to keep the RNG from borking you out of a quest that is fun or at least worth a packet of EXP, Gold, and puts you 1 closer to Loremaster/Seeker.
Ishammel Sep 20th 2010 10:33AM
Damn good theory.
Even if it is incorrect, I WANT to see this in game!
Sword Sep 20th 2010 10:34AM
My mistake then I guess. Sorry for being uninformed. You got to admit it did look like it was what I thought it was though.
