Cataclysm Beta: Cold Weather Flying at 68

That pretty much says the whole story right there -- but since when have I let that stop me? Our old friend Cold Weather Flying is seeing a significant price drop in Cataclysm, it seems. In addition, the level at which you can get it is changing. On the live servers, you currently can buy Cold Weather Flying at level 77 (or level 80 to buy a Tome of Cold Weather Flying). The tome is Bind to Account and allows an alt to learn CWF at level 68.
In Cataclysm, all of this is unnecessary. You hit level 68, you spend around 500g (475g for the human character I used to test this, talking to a flight trainer in Stormwind) -- and bam, you can fly in Northrend. (Said human was level 1; as you can see, he didn't even have 1 solitary copper on him.) So there you go. Do all of your alts have CWF? If you somehow have an alt who is above level 77 but doesn't have it yet, will you be picking it up?

I'm still not clear on one issue: are those of us with 310% mounts having the ability grandfathered into Cataclysm? I mean that speed still being specific to those mounts.
I don't want to sound trollish here, but I'll be pretty upset that I wasted my time with the holiday meta for a 280% what is absolutely the ugliest proto-dragon (then again, maybe the green one is).
Doing any achievement to get a 310% flier isn't easy. I very recently finished the meta achievement.
Pardon my sounding a bit melodramatic here, but it would be analogous to surviving cancer only to find out immediately after that you'd contracted leprosy.

Not any more, baby! Not any more. *tinge of Costanza glee*

Agreed with the lowering the cold weather flying. I'm a lvl 72 Blood Dk and I've been trying to get 4k to get CWF badly. But I enjoy using my mount while using my archerus. But sometimes I wish I had CWF so I can turn in quests faster and level up faster.

I am really glad to see CWF go down in price! =D I will definitely wait for Cata before getting it. 1000g is a lot when you are trying to get 5000g for your epic flyer = / Anyways...though I agree skipping over content isn't great (why Blizzard does level requirements the first time around) But even so...flying isn't forced. xD Some of you act all sad that you HAVE to fly instead of going through the zone with out it. Just because you can get it doesn't mean you have to. It is just a nice option for those who want to get going through it. For most people, they have seen Northrend several times. It will be going from new to old to newer-old to new again with Cata. (Old being Outlands). So having that option to being able to fly from the start helps you get to the 80's faster. But if you want to go through the zone with out flying, then you have that option. Heck, you can choose to never get it.

I found a quite a shock to go from flying all over Outland to being land bound once up in Northrend. I still think its a good idea and seems to go along with the gradual changes Blizzard has been making to mount acquisition anyway.

I did Borean Tundra as my entry point to Northrend on my main rather than howling fjord, the first time on my next alt that I saw anything I hadn't played before was when I got her to Northrend and deliberately chose to do so via HF instead.
Unlike up to this point- I'm actually reading quest descriptions on her now (because they are actually new to me) and this has slowed down her levelling - if the fact that she has cold weather flying compensates for this that is all to the good.
I'm still hoping I can get her to 80 before cata hits and level her and Ravenjet in parallel through to 85 so I'll have both my bear and my lock ready to start gearing for the new raids.
(Obviously whenever time is limited - my lock gets preference, he is and always will be, my main)

Had I not experienced Northrend on the ground, I'd probably not buy this until I had. But now that I've seen it through, when I roll a new toon I think I'll enjoy just flying through to get to the new content.
I like that you coudldn'tfly right away in Wrath. So much work was put into the scenery, I wanted to enjoy it properly anyway.

will you even need to bother with this if you just use dungeon finder to grind your way through wrath?

@Fish: Haha let's start a revolution up in here!
What about "melee?" It's not pronounced "muh-LEE" or "MEE-lee." It's "MAY-lay." (not gonna look up dictionary phonics)
What about "your" vs "you're" or "there" vs "their" vs "they're" ... "our" vs "are"
I could go on but, point is, trade drives me crazy! And YES, I'm grammar police!
Ever notice people (in trade) always jump to the defense of the person being corrected? So it's wrong to speak correctly and better to speak incorrectly?
