Guild chat coming to the Mobile Armory app

This allows access to guild chat, officer chat (presuming you had access to start with) and whispers. It appears the whispers will only be allowed to and from guild members, at the moment. There is also no news about being able to chat with your Real ID friends. If you don't have a device that the Mobile Armory runs on, Blizzard will soon be adding this feature to the normal armory as well.
The full announcement is behind the break.
WrocasWe're pleased to announce a new feature being added to the Mobile Armory: Guild Chat!
Coming soon in an update to the Mobile Armory app available in the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=321057000&mt=8) and Android Market, this new feature will allow all World of Warcraft Remote subscribers the ability to chat with their guildies right from their mobile device. Access to the guild chat feature is included for no extra charge in the €2.99 World of Warcraft Remote Auction House (http://eu.wowarmory.com/wow-remote.xml) premium monthly subscription. In addition, soon after the launch of the mobile version we're planning on adding the ability for premium subscribers to use Guild Chat through any browser on the Armory website.
Guild Chat will allow you to chat with your guildmates via Guild Chat, Officer Chat, and Whispers. Now you can stay connected with your guild or update them from anywhere if you're going to be late to a raid! Stay tuned for additional information about this service and the upcoming Mobile Armory Guild Chat beta test.

Why does Blizzard Hate Blackberry Users?

I think this is a cool feature. If there is someone in my guild who get's pissy b/c I cannot answer something in guild chat when I am not online playing the game - well they need to get a grip! No worries on that front...
With all the mention of facebook integration and stuff not too long ago, this is not surprising. I believe the very large community of WoW is being pushed along a path of these other social network sites. And just like those, you opt in or out. I remain thankful that they have removed the threat of exposing people's real names on the forums and all that (not meaning to get into that again) - and we will be able to use this functionality to be as connected as we want to be to our WoW friends without handing out our facebook accounts and such.
I have met some people on WoW that I would consider a friend - not necessarily to the same degree as other people I have known for years outside the game. But still, this is a way to chat when I want even if I cannot get online.
GJ Blizz....!

Interestingly, I was sent an invitation to participate in a random survey from Blizz, recently, and this feature was one of the "Would you be interested in..." options. Another was Push notifications, as mentioned by Viper007Bond above me, so I suppose it could happen.
For the record, I answered that I might be interested in this feature, so I'm thinking I should be taking credit for this. (Surely, I was the only person they asked, right?)
There were too many "Would you be interested in..." ideas to remember or list, but I will mention one that stood out to me: Paraphrased - the ability to complete a certain type of quest [maybe a daily of some sort? - just a guess by me] that would award gold or XP on your mobile device. Now there's an idea that I predict will, most certainly, rile up the ranks on both sides of the argument.
Looking back, I wish I had taken screen-shots of the survey pages, so I could remember all the stuff they were possibly, considering, implementing. Anyone else here, get randomly selected to answer?
And before you ask - yes, I confirmed that the email was actually from Blizzard and no, at no time did the survey ask for ANY sort of identification, account name, password, or any of that sort of thing. It was hosted by the reputable survey service zoomerang.com. I'm confident it was the real deal.

Did I misread the blue post. I *think* it says that Mobile Armory is now available in the Android Market Place.
I know that the Remote AH app is, but the only Armory I see is the one designed by Orabig (since app btw)

I hope along with this new feature they also update the Mobile Armory App itself.
As it is right now, it doesn't support the iPhone 4 retina display so it looks pixellated, and it also doesn't support the iOS 4.x multitasking.
Can't see them releasing a paid chat service and not also update the app to run in the background and send instant notifications while chatting.

Can't argue with successful business strategies.

Tell that orc he needs to upgrade his phone from that super old Motorola V551/557.

Eh, it's a fun cool feature for those who use it. It doesn't matter if it is useful or appealing to me because I am not involved with it. I like the idea, and I have had friends in guilds before that would be great to chat too! Some guilds don't exchange numbers- for varies reasons- so getting a hold of them would be a nice addition to someone who uses it. And since when was raiding the only guilds out there? =P I would love to discuss RP events and what-not with my guildies! Sitting at Starbucks and discussing RP business while I drink my latte sounds like an awesome idea. A lot of guild chat is just random fun anyways.
Also, it only works if you are using the app i'm sure. Like the Facebook app, you can get alerts when you get a message or what not- but you can turn the alert option on or off. I am sure the guild chat would work the same.
I do think it is dumb to make you pay monthly for the service. We already pay you monthly, Blizzard. >.> But a flat up front fee would be way better. (Though I don't use the AH much anyways) I wouldn't pay $15 for something I simply won't use.

When I'm able to cancel and repost in large batches (undercutting automatically of course), you can sign me up.
Until then, meh.

I can see the usefulness to different people, I imagine it will spike the use of that service.
We've had guildies many times have a relative from home log into their account and tell us their on the train home but are running late for a raid. We've had people call or IM chat to let us know similar things or to tell us their having computer problems.
I also know there's some people who play WoW almost exclusively for the social aspects, so perhaps for those people it will be quite useful.

Honestly i whished they did as funcom did with anarchy online.
You could chat in a browser through web irc or a irc client.
all for free didnt cost nada.
paying 17 dollar every month is enough for me.

Interesting, this could be nice to have for guild officers - even if its just so you can ask somebody to hop into vent. On android there are at least two vent apps that I know of: Ventrilod and Mangler (none on iOS). I *think* there is also a Teamspeak apps as well, and even a version of Mumble for iOS.
I wonder how long before game voice goes mobile...

This would inerest me if the android actually had a mobile armory! We have mobile auction house and authenticator. A third party had to make us an armory app. So blizzard has bold face lied about having a mobile armory at all. I'm assuming they meant mobile auction house on android as they have yet to bring armory over.
