Not enough people signed up the first time around, so they had to beef it up. It makes sense. Unfortunately, I still don't like the idea of an additional ongoing subscription - I'm already paying one.
If I could just pay once to buy the app, maybe $10 or $15, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But anything that requires a recurring charge (read, 'semi-permanent salary erosion') is always going to be less interesting to me for exactly that reason.

Man people get negative- They said from the beginning that the whole thing was a work in progress, they'd add new parts to it when they felt they were good enough and when they had the infastructure. If anything the fact that they're adding new things to it means that there are quite a few subscribers since they feel people are interested in that kind of thing enough to buy a simple AH app.
If anything I'm just glad they're trying to be innovative in getting their money instead of cooking up more sources of quick cash they can get kids to buy like most other MMOs do in microtransactions.
